i had my first real session on this last night after being away this weekend.
i am enjoying the game, i've played a few exhibition fights with different fighters and thats pretty good!
i've started the career and i'm finding it tough on expert. i'm fighting in the middleweight division and i'm 6'2" (modelled on myself). i'm using boxing and wrestling as my styles, mainly due to head kicks being countered so much on expert and the sweet ducking hooks, also i like the wrestling moves on the ground.
i started well, i was 4-0 and KO'd every opponent, but they were rubbish. i then suffered my first loss to some guy who abosolutly battered me from the muay thai clinch in the first round, he was silly quick, i didn't stand a chance.
so now i was 4-1, went into the next fight and wiped the floor with some unknown, finished with a lovely ducking right hook that was timed beautifully.
5-1, i was doing well, or so i thought, the next 2 fights were a disaster. the first of which i got robbed, i battered this guy from the start and swiftly removed about 3/4 of his health in the first round from a mixture of stand up and ground and pound. the second round started in the same way, but about half way through i went for a ducking right hook and as i came up for the punch a huge right hook from my opponent KO'd me. i wasn't gassed, so i was surprised, but thats the way it goes sometimes. now 5-2, i get the chance to fight chris leben and he was far superior to any other fighter i'd fought. i made a good go of it, but eventually came unstuck again in the clinch, he was unleashing quick punching combo's and then finished me with some dirty boxing uppercuts.
so now i'm 5-3, which isn't that good and i'm in tatters, i decide to go for a lower ranked fighter to bolster my stats and beat him on points and then the next fight i go for the fighter ranked just above me and beat him with some ground and pound in the third round.
so now 7-3, i get the chance of a rematch with chris leben and it's too tempting to turn down. i've trained quite a bit, upped my clinch defence stats from sparring and done a couple of boot camps, so i'm feeling confident. we'll see how the fight goes tonight.
a couple of gripes i have about the game: -
the e-mails, it's a little annoying getting updates on events constantly, but it's not a big issue.
when starting your career it's difficult to KO someone even if they have no stamina left, due to your strength and stiking stats not being very high, but this soon gets better as your stats build up.
a couple of questions to the evo-web community: -
what do you find is the best way to get out of a striking clinch (muay thai, dirty boxing, etc)?
what difficulty setting are people going through the career on and how are people finding the difficulty?
