The TV Show Thread

Yeah, I've read all of the books and my wife is currently watching the series. Great fun seeing her try and guess what is going to happen next. :)

Wonderfully made show. Really really well done, if occasionally a bit gratuitous (guess it has to fulfill HBO quotas of violence and sex).

Book five in just about a month or so :)

I remember Drekkard (i think) saying that the story is done in such a way that you just don't know if anyone is safe and anyone can die at any point.

Having read the first two books, it's fun coming into work and discussing what he thought of the show and how he thinks it's going to pan out.

We watch it in a little group and none of us have read even book 1 through yet and we think...

Ned isnt going to see the series out?!

Last show that had things like that happen to major characters was the Wire.

Awesome show - I like how they aren't afraid to kill off main characters.
Other shows, despite being entertaining, are too predictable in that respect, and it makes the action/fight sequences lack any real suspense, whereas in Game of Thrones you really don't know what will happen (unless you read the books :P).

Another thing I like is that you can interpret and empathise with the characters in different ways, it really does provoke thought and discussion.

The standard of acting/costumes etc. really brings it all to life as well, great stuff.

The wire is an amazing show. Game of thrones will be as good (or even better) if they can reach at least 3 seasons... By now, the 8th episode was frantic and very well done as usual.

I love the performances. Now that most of the exposition is done the episodes feel shorter than ever. Action all around with bits of great dialogues in-between.

Oh, and I loved when Bronn.... (spoiler form the 8th episode here)
Bronn is the mercenary that saved Tyrion's life fighting for him in the Eyrie. I loved it when Tyrion is introducing Bronn to Tywin and says "Bronn, son of...." and Bronn says with a mix of a smile and embarrassment "...oh, you wouldn't know him". The right words to sepparate himself from the other savages there, and Tywin gets it.

By the way, speaking of Tywin, everytime he moves his head towards the camera I still hope to see him with a different cristal eye... (geeky joke).

The actor playing Bronn has done a great job, got the facial expressions and vocal expressions down perfectly. Always great scenes when Tyrion and Bronn are on-screen together.

Thanks for the vid! What was that exactly? It was meant to be a comical sketch or something? Is he very popular in GB?

Now I will have to refrain from imagining Bronn singing this with Tyrion.

haha, Jerome from Robson and Jerome. Actors from Soldier Soldier.

Hey JimBiker - Your avatar, where you at Disneyland with all this Star Wars stuff they've had recently? Presume that's were the photo is from.

On the Wire, just started the 5th and final season, it's been great so far, although I wasn't too taken with the 4th series. The opening episode of the 5th was ok, not sure about the newspaper addition now.

Wire Spoiler:-
Sad to see obviously Avon, Stringer and Bodie go though, especially Bodie as he was one of the first you actually saw.
And that Snoop freaks me out, never took it for a 'her'.

Might want to spoiler the later bits of that post for people that might not have watched The Wire ;)

Drekkard,
Jerome Flynn who plays Bronn was in a long running series in the UK called Soldier, Soldier and he and the other guy in the clip (Robson Green) were very popular with the lady viewers and so released a couple of singles to make a few quid(In fact they had 3 no.1s!!! ).

I wasn't unfortunately, the pic is from this ad

I just found it quite funny.

So... watched Game of thrones episode 9 today... Great episode again. Great ending. Now only one to close the first season. Iwonder what non-readers are thinking of the plot now that it has gone wild!

Amazing episode, it's been converted so well from the book.

Not overly impressed with Shae though, expected her to be younger and a bit cuter really.

Yes, I imagined her smaller and cuter. But it makes sense that she's not that stunning, considering their relationship. The casting is so good that I give them the benefit of doubt about her. After all, I didn't like Catelyn until I watched her perform. She convinced me in 5 seconds. It's great to rely on impressive actors. Bronn continues to be an amazing character, and all the starks are great. The performance of Arya in the last scene at Baelor is wonderful.

Game of Thrones Spoiler.

Having not read the books, I did not expect that!

Although I did have a lingering doubt that perhaps Sean Bean is too big for a TV show now. Still, I'm shocked and a bit gutted!

I hope Game of Thrones goes on for years - thoroughly enjoying it!

I thought it would be the typical "good guy escapes and becomes a hero/king", really did not expect that!

Once I've finished with The Wire I'm starting no this Game of Thrones, saw the start of the first episode and said to myself "Hmmmmm, this might be good". Think I'll maybe mix it with that Australian gangster thing, heard it's really good.

Just remembered teh name, Underbelly.

That sounds right up my street, will be checking that out later on.

Not really a spoiler but:

"Ginger cunt, three tents down."
:D

Anyone see "the Scheme" the other night ? Seemed pretty good, I'm guessing some of you will have seen all the episodes as it was on BBC Scotland a few months ago, before going onto BBC 1.

Game Of Thrones wrapped up then, very good finale and I'm sure it's got people anxious for season two.

The dragons looked far better than I expected, great job there.

Also a good job with Arya's hair. I always wondered how people could mistake her for a boy but I can kinda see it now.
