The Cape - 101-102

Cheesy, rushed and sometimes ridiculous but totally assumed.
Nothing revolutionary, we'll see if the show lasts.

"No bars ?"

Wife and I enjoyed it quite a lot, absolutely it's cheesy but most super hero stuff is, unless it takes itself too seriously like Heroes did and we know how that worked out...

"Lights Out", I was wondering why I couldn't find it ;)

Sounds like it could be good, will grab that and "The Cape" later this evening I think.

I just watched the first episode and thought it was really good. It's basically Batman I guess, good fun though :)

I'm going to check out The Cape and Lights Out tonight. Any other suggestions for shows?

My only worry with The Cape is that it's got Summer Glau in it, and we all know she's a bad omen for shows being cancelled... Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse and Firefly to name a few ;).

LOL that's exactly what my wife said! We were fans of those shows and of course fans of Summer's, dating back to Angel and through numerous cancelled shows including The 4400 and even The Unit! :)

What's lights out?

We just watched the finale of breaking bad s3... What a show that is!! Cannot wait for s4.

The Spartacus prequel should be on soon too?...

Kinda like a TV show version of Rocky I guess? Very good, as is The Cape.

Anyone watched "You Don't Know Jack"?

Just saw that it won some Golden Globe awards and it could be worth watching?

I have, awesome film. Al Pacino at his best.

Regarding the Golden Globes, I'm glad to see recongition for one of the best TV shows in a long while: Boardwalk Empire. It received 2 awards:

Best Television Series - Drama: Boardwalk Empire

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama: Steve Buscemi for "Boardwalk Empire"

Wow!!! It seems HBO is making another masterpiece based in books that were already masterpieces! I've been following the development of the series since first day, so 17th April can't come fast enough.

If you have read the books, you'll be amazed. If not, what are you waiting for? You've got up to 17th april to read at first the first Volume of the books (each season will cover a book).

Rejoice:

Heard a lot of hype about that show, not sure the books will be my scene but will check the show out.

It's a mini-series isn't it? I thought that's the category it was in for the Golden Globe nomination anyway.

Looking forward to watching The Cape E03 tonight :)

Yup, great 'tourette's' by Tamsin.
Bloomin 4od, started watching Shameless from the start, finished Series 2 and started the Xmas special which should have been the end of S1 NOT s2 ep 11!!!
Pretty sure it was filmed where I lived (for a year or so in the late 80s) in West Gorton

I've read all the George R. R. Martin Books and am looking forward to A Dance with Dragons. Excellent collection.

Are they planning on making the whole Song of Ice and Fire series?

They're doing 1 season for each book, which at the same time means that G RR Martin apparently should have finished 6th and 7th books (the last ones) in 5 years. Let's hope it's true. Considering the ammount of money they have put in this, it's considered to be the TV event of the year. HBO has put everything in it. And when someone who made The wire, Deadwood, The Sopranos does this, then we know it's going to deliver.

For those who haven't read the book, please, I really advise you to do it. At least read the first book before the tv show starts. Game of Thrones is fantastic in genre, but it's not fantastic at all. In fact, I totally hate "Lord of the rings" and things like that, but this one grabbed me by the blls from start and I must say it contains some of the very best fiction and twists I've read in my life.

For those interested, think of this book as "The Sopranos in the middle earth". It's a book about geniuses and sons of bitchs fighting for the power, and it's great.

Wow, that sounds great!

I'm a massive fan of HBO shows anyways, but to recreate one of the best fantasy series is incredible and overdue.

Just a thought, have you ever tried The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, drekkard? There was talk about TV series or movie in the works, no fixed date at the moment though, but the books are great.

EDIT: For those interested: http://www.slashfilm.com/ron-howard...niseries-bardem-mortensen-actors-considered/#. Looks like it's in production and is likely to be a miniseries.

What's the name of the first book? I'm halfway through a book at the moment but will read this book next.

"Game of Thrones" is the first volume of the saga. The saga itself it's called "Song of Ice and Fire" and currently there are 4 volumes edited. Rumours are that the 5th will see the light with the first season of HBO.

Each volume is, at least, 800 pages... But, it's great and easy to read. The chapters are all about 20-30 pages, each chapter is a different point of view (there are tons of different characters and at first you feel overwhelmed by the big world around you). And every chapter ends in a sort of cliffhanger, so even if it's a 800 pages book, you can read 10 minutes and finnish a chapter and later go on with another one.

Once you are introduced to the world and the plot unfolds, you will be hooked like you've never thought possible.
Personally, I loved the 1st book as an "introduction to the world" with a lot of twists (and in the first 80 pages there are already very important things happening). The 2nd one was very good, but the 3rd one is inmense. It's the best fiction book I've read. I had my heart gone totally mad while reading, and that had never happened before.

The 4th book is strange, because it's quite unexpected, but it's just great anyway.
Hope you like it if you start it!

@mjsmith: I'll try the sage of The dark tower. I heard about it but was undecided. But if a fan of "Game of thrones" likes it, probably I'll like it too! It's in the list!

Ah right, thought GOT would be the name of the overall thing, not the name of the first volume

Not sure about the first volume being 800 pages though, I fall asleep after 10 pages or so :( But with you saying each chapter is so short, then that makes it a lot easier to concentrate.
