The Retrogaming Thread! [8-bit/16-bit/32-bit/64-bit]

I've been going on a Mario spree the past few days.. My goal is to beat Mario 1, 2, 3, and Super Mario World in order! (all games included in the brilliant SNES Super Mario All-Stars). It might take me a long long time, the good part is that Mario All-Stars has an automatic save feature, which saves your game after you have beaten a "world"! So right now, I am in World 7-1 of Mario 1.. Man, these games are classic and the emblem of Nintendo for a reason, such pure fun! I think I'm going to take my time too, so expect updates once in a while of how I'm doing in my "Millossobek Retro Mario Quest" haha! :BSCARF: :TU:

For years, I've collected a lot.

Console : NES, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, PS3
Handheld : GBC, GBA, DS, PSP, NGPC

And for each console, a good selection of games.
For the handheld, GBC and GBA games are limited but for DS, PSP and NGCP I've a good collection too.

More and more I'm really considering selling everything and just focus on PC gaming.

Same goes with a part of my football shirts collection in fact.

And the first reason is not profit, just that I more and more feel owning and collecting does not make sense.

Any of you had the same feeling, decided to sell their retro collection and then regret ?

@Juventino32 These are treasures bro! Your retrogaming consoles and games, and your football shirts I believe are invaluable and priceless!
As someone who had several retrogaming consoles (as well as Ninja Turtles action figures) and either sold them or lost them, these are treasures that I should've never lost! Now as an adult, I really wish I had my original retro consoles and cartridges and my Leonardo Samurai action figure, among many others!
I really think you should hold on to them. These collections are memories! :TU:

Man, can you believe I've had a similar idea for quite some time? I've been wanting to replay all the old Marios (except from Bros 2, that I really can't consider a Mario 😂 ) since a while now, and also to play the "modern" ones I've completely missed. Must somehow find the best way to emulate Mario 64 tho, last time I tried was a bit too glitchy.

Hahah, that's an awesome coincidence, man! Going back to the Marios is a great idea, and yeah, even though I really like Mario 2 as well (I didn't find out until a few years ago about the whole Doki Doki panic saga), it is understandably very different from the others!! I think Mario is one of those sagas in which all editions are guaranteed quality! (I am enjoying so much the simple fun of Mario 1 :)) ). As for Mario 64, yeah, that's a big one..... It's a shame both both Mario 64 and Donkey Kong 64 are not well emulated, let me know if you find a good "unglitched" version bro!! :BSCARF: :TU:

Before this thread gets lost on the doldrums… did anyone ever play these games?

Good to see this thread being revived :)

Of course! Pocky and Rocky :TU: Seems straight out of the "Legend of the Mystical Ninja" school of Japanese zaniness! (Even though it's TAITO, and LOMN is Konami)

Love the game. Really cool world and fast-paced action!!

Hey bro, YES I have had the same feeling. Also before I go on, I consider myself as a minimalist. I see problems in materializing things, & I think I got what the film "Fight Club" is trying to tell us. But this sparked a memory (a life lesson) for me that is very similar to Millossobek, so I will quote it ..

Years ago I had the original TMNT Nintendo cartridge with the box & everything.
Ofcourse I had played it for like 5 years straight by that time, I can beat shredder easily & I know the secret strategy to make the technodrome easy as piss. Screen glitching like a pro & I learnt those strats on my own, no gamefaqs

In any case, I can't even remember what I needed the money for, it was that pointless, but I took my TMNT game & a few comic books & sold it off to a pawn shop for $10. My cousin told me I would regret it & I so do bro. Ofcourse I have the game on my PC & I can play it whenever I want. With better visuals & a better controller, but it's just not the same.

Even if I wasn't gonna play it, I would have it out on a shelf or something because just looking at it will trigger those memories.
Sometimes you need those memories. When thing's are going bad, you can't find any clarity. You need some of that feeling of pure joy, that you used to seemingly feel so much more.
Sometimes you even forget those memories! Due to all the bullshit flying at you everyday, your brain doesn't even have time to remember!

If you truly love something, it will be part of you forever they say. That game helped me out alot in tough times.
Yes it's just an object but that little 200 kb game cartridge & the day I sold it, is forever etched into my brain as a mistake made.

BTW your zero patch for WE2008 is amazing, thank you.

:APPLAUD: :APPLAUD: beautifully put, my friend!

I distinctly remember TMNT 1 for NES being one of the toughest games, ever.. That water stage, and the ones after that.. holy cow..

I could never beat this game.. Maybe it's time I give it another try..

Yeah man, Juventino, I would say hold on to these retro treasures.. They are part of you, passions and hobbies are such an important part of life! :TU:

It's a bloody masterpiece bro.

Fun fact, I believe even the infamous 'Dark Souls' took inspiration from this game in a number of areas.
The most prominent is that, in TMNT when your health is very low, all the turtles hit harder & do more damage than they would at normal health.
This is literally a perk that you receive while wearing a certain ring in Dark Souls! Even Miyazaki was playing this beast.

Also I leave here some pro tips if anyone wants to know ..

These asshole's on the left, shooting lasers are probably the hardest part of technodrone. You can't jump past them & sometimes you can't even duck under them. You WILL get hit.
So the trick play is, when you are advancing forward here , move slowly tapping forward. As soon as these idiots come from the right side & enter the screen, YOU stop moving.
Because they fly all over the place, they end up leaving the screen again .. and they disappear for good LOL

Or if you don't want to break the matrix, you collect the hadoukens! https://www.gamesdatabase.org/media...ant_ninja_turtles_-_1989_-_ultra_software.pdf

Page 11 has all the items listed, I'm talking about the "kial" .. You can hoard these if you want here .. ( it's either E or D, I can't remember correctly )
Just grab the kial's , leave the building & go get them again, they will respawn.
TMNT_NES_map_Area_3.png

Each turtle can hold 99 of them but that is overkill. 25 or so each should be enough. Just fucken HADOUKEN! the whole technodrone
Also Donnie's bow staff is the strongest normal weapon :D
Keep switching turtles & make sure to grab pizza for the turtle that is hurt the most. COWABUNGA!

Not retro but in the retro style. Did you ever play Salt and Sanctuary? Is basically the 2D version of Dark Souls.

No never played it. It looks great though, I think I remember hearing about it and then didn't even realize it released.
Remind's me of Dead Cell's which I have played & its immense. Huge game that one.

Also Rogue Legacy, retro style VERY hard. This game is literally brain training.

Hah you just reminded me of Nintendo DS Brain Training game lol

What a great game. :) From the creators of River City Ransom (Super Kunio-Kun), came Super Dodgeball! Just played an entire run (even though this is the American version, and I think in the Japanese version, called Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun, one plays with Japanese High School teams), and had so much fun.. There was an entire sports series based on Kunio, and it would've been great if they had continued it for SNES (maybe there are some games).. In anycase, great installment with very fun gameplay! :TU:

I know everyone has heard of Red Dead Redemption but did anyone ever play the game that started it all… Red Dead Revolver on PS2?
I was played and was shocked how good and interesting it is.
Old graphics, certainly, do not make game worse, at least for me.
It's really on of "Pearl of cowboy-themed games", let's call it such way. And game "Gun" 2005 also.

Yeah I always prioritise gameplay over graphics. Having said that, it think the graphics on Red Dead Revolver are pretty good for the PS2. Gun was also a good game.
