The Retrogaming Thread! [8-bit/16-bit/32-bit/64-bit]

I already created an arcade stick (Ulra Ulia case + Sanwa stick and buttons) but wanted something smaller, with only 24mm buttons.
I've then just pulled the trigger on a Ultra Arcade EU case (the mini one, with a custom layout and art).

The layout is the Sega that I adapted for 24mm buttons. I just kept the 59mm distance between the stick and the far left button. See here.

The home, select and start buttons will be on the above side panel. All buttons are Seimitsu 24mm and the joystick is a Seimitsu LS-55.
The board is a Brook Zero Pi (I used also that on my full size Sanwa stick).

Can't wait to get the case and put everything together !

Here's the pic of my full sized Sanwa one :

Anyone with any experience of Anbernic and micro SD cards? I bought a 512Gb card and it seems to work, but when I've put about 40+ PS2 games on it and when I open AetherSX2, only about 15-20 show up in the list. I've redownloaded some so they are fresh installs. and the same issue. I don't know if it's an app issue or an SD card issue (I tried copying to internal storage, and the same thing happened). Don't know if I should try a smaller card or if there's some specific file system thing that's affecting it. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

(It's Anbernic RG556, the internal storage is now full of the 32 bit (PS1) and before consoles. I'm relying on an SD card so I can have more games like old FIFA's, PES, other football series and racing games)

I'm a huge fan of classic Doom. It has to be one of the most modded games ever. :) The amount of WADs (fan made levels, particularly entire 32-level maps) is awesome, and literally hundreds are released every year. Some of them change the gameplay or the graphics (for example, Brutal Doom), but the ones I like the most are the ones that retain the classic aspects of the game, perhaps adding a few monsters and or weapons here and there, but mainly following the original spirit of the game. It's so impressive how modders are able to create entire worlds from scratch, using the original engine and adding textures.. It's provided me with years and years of fun, and the community is always releasing new worlds, some of them really atmospheric and cool!

FPS is far from being my favorite genre, but Doom is different for me.. I just simply love it. Anyone here into the DOOM WAD community who can recommend some WADs they have played in the past? Right now I am really enjoying "Back to Saturn X" (the first episode) :TU:

During my last 5 years played so many .wads to a point that I'm just replying those maps again to experience a different type of setting with Brutal Doom, Project Brutality or Black Edition mods enhancements.

Doom still holds up even after 32 years, not to mention that John Romero's Sigil Vol 1 & 2 being some great add-on masterpieces. The new expansion Legacy of Rust made for this year's version is just entirely crazy, and mind blowing how this franchise still stands the test of time with fresh content, not to mention that ID are still making modern solid FPS versions like Doom 2016 and Eternal that are top class.

Besides playing those classics with mods, can't wait for Doom The Dark Ages to release... Doom is such a source of inspiration in its FPS genre ID being one of the greatest pioneers in PC gaming!

I've heard some great things about Sigil 1 and 2, will definitely check them out for sure! Thanks for the recommendation bro :TU:
It really is amazing how this game has stood the test of time, even though the newer versions are good too, there's just something about Classic Doom that brinigs me back constantly!

Here are some of my favorite Wads: Back to Saturn X, Requiem, Epic 1 and 2, Alien Vendetta, and Memento Mori I and II, mostly using GZDoom with Vanilla gameplay and a few add-ons! :)

I've recently bought the recent remake on GOG of it but haven't tested it yet.

I've also picked Blood and the last Rise of the Triad in the same genre.

Played those .wads that you've mentioned, are great picks, plus Scythe 1 & 2 mega.wads were also great. Speaking of quality Doom mods, check this out:

Was released fully just a month ago after 11 years in the making and feels like Doom III as a conclusion to the Doom I & II story, like unofficially being part of the trilogy (created using Doom 2.wad). Love it until now, also compatible with Brutal Doom & Project Brutality pk3 gameplay enhancements...

This looks really cool, I like the fact that it retains a lot of the classic elements! I prefer the Vanilla Doom instead of Brutal Doom, so the fact that this is compatible too is a great plus.. Will be checking it out for sure after I am done with my current WADs! Thanks for the heads up, man! :TU:

Oh, and Scythe I and II, heard great things about them too! Will be downloading them also :)

I have a retro handheld Odin 2 so kinda of.
It sounds like either the handheld you have used has a max SD capacity or the SD card you bought is a fake. There's many fakes on Amazon and eBay. Try to buy one from a popular high street retailer to guarantee it's authenticity. Use H2testW to check your SD card and if it labels it as generic or something you weren't expecting then you know it's a fake.
Also, I'm not sure that system will be sufficient for good PS2 emulation.

@Juventino32 That arcade stick looks dope

Great game. :) Love the simplicity and the challenge of it.. Still so many years later, I can't beat the ropes level!

I've been playing this one recently: RC Pro Am. Such a great game!! Love the physics of it, and how little things can determine the outcome.. Awesome fun factor as well!! Man, 8-bit Nintendo/Famicom had a great approach to gaming for sure. :TU:

I love too racing games with playability and view like Micromachines, Rock'n'roll racing, Power drift etc. etc.

Also i'm not a big fan of Mugen games (a program to create 2d fighting game) but that one retained my attention as it's like a remaster of the arcade port with a way better gameplay than the original, combos etc.

Mortal Kombat 1 Remastered, digitalized sprite and background looks definitively way better in HD

And there's also Mortal Kombat 4, but in 2D : looking and playing better than the original!

I don't think I've posted this game here before, but I've been really enjoying the Adventure Island series! (The ones I played were, 3 in the NES, and 2 in the SNES..) Love the colorful, pacific islander inspired world, and the ease and simplicity of the gameplay. I've always thought that this series simply works, as they always added something new in every installment (for example, Adventure Island 2 had the Dinosaurs, the SNES version had more weapons, etc).. This gave me hours of fun as a kid, and will continue to do so, after not playing it since the 90's! Here is my favorite of the whole saga, Adventure Island 2. :TU:

In fact, it's the remake of sega first Wonder Boy gameplay, but Sega didn't make a whole serie with that gameplay.

I was a big fan of the Wonder Boy arcade (same litterally as what purpose the mastersystem) there where 10 stage and 10 gigantic bosses/dragons.
It's pretty cool that they used the same exact gameplay and improved it versions after version : the first was a copy paste from Wonder Boy 1, but the sequel took the same ingredients and enhanced gameplay's possibilies and designs.

Sega's sequels are Action-Rpg type plateformer, Wonder Boy III was a masterpiece and a big slap in the face when the game was out.
That version is iconic, there's a PC Engine version with better graphism and another name, out few years later.

Also the first time i played on Super Nes, it was on an amusement park where you could test many games on consoles looking like an Arcade machine but with gamepad, the Snes wasn't already out in Europe, and my very first game on that console was Super Adventure Island ;))
