The Retro-PES Corner

You can definitely remaster old engine PES series, you just need a lot of time and effort.

For example, the two pictures below are from the exact same game: PES 2013 (PS2 version).
The same stadium, the same teams, the same game settings, the same kits, the same ball, yet the visual difference is huge.

Great work but still not the type of remastered which he reflected on... ;)

For a long time, I played Round Robin, Konami Cup, and Master League modes on my PS2 across various titles, ranging from WE5FE to PES 2008. I noticed that the AI in PES 3, WE8LE, and PES 2008 was frequently praised; however, strangely enough, another game caught my attention regarding difficulty: PES 2. I don't know the reason, but the AI gave me a really hard time and scored more goals against me compared to the other games; the title race went right down to the final week. Although the highly acclaimed PES 2008 was challenging, its defensive aspect felt neglected defenders would make odd movements, and I even had matches where I won 7-0. While I consider JLWE9 the best in terms of gameplay and physics, my definitive choice is certainly PES 2. I am curious to hear what others have to say about PES 2. I continue to play PES 2 and plan to write about the points that stand out to me. For instance, in WE6FE—touted as the superior version—you could tear opponents apart with Montella, Totti, and Batistuta and sweep the top three spots on the top scorers' list, whereas such a scenario seems impossible in PES 2.
Agreed. PES2 is brilliant. It is unique, totally unlike any PES/WE after it and similiar to PES1 on PS2, but way better. The ball has real weight to it, unlike other games. There are cool physical battles, more so than future games, and the AI is tough to play and read, so you're constantly tested. And the top players play like top players, noticably way better than the average Joes. Plenty of fouls throughout the game and pens.

There's not much I don't like about it. There are some restrictions on what you can do in certain areas, but I feel this makes the game more unique and interesting, as you then have to think how you're going to work around any limitations.

Not only that, but it's interesting how, when you experiment with textures in PES 2 on the PS2, you can create some really beautiful looking stadium pitches.

Now that I've finished my PES 2013 PS2 project, I'll probably start working on my new PES 2 PS2 project.

Which ISO are you guys using?

The one i have from vimm stutters.

What's the recommended keyboard controls for using WASD as movement? Since PES' default keyboard controls in all games feels awkward and having Space Bar unusable makes it worse, and I wanna know what's the default keyboard controls for FC26 PC because PCGW doesn't display screenshot of keyboard controls across all FIFA games there.

Not sure but don't put yourself through torture playing PES with keys.

Are you talking about PS2 version?

2008's AI is great offensively but 0-0 matches were almost non existent, it felt like in every game there would be goals.

i think thats why i recently play more of PES3, the AI is good, wish it would a little more varied but still, its good and one match i can win 3-1 and the next lose 3-0.
PES 2 is definitely a harder game than PES 3, WE7, or WE7:I. The AI scores more goals against you, and scoring against the AI is much more difficult. Try starting a career in PES 2, and you'll see the result. It's great to see PES 2 being talked about so much on the forum. In PES 2008, defense has been neglected; even though the AI might score two goals against me, I score six against them. I don't find PES 2008 difficult.

Because some friends prefer playing keyboard and they don't even know how to use controllers, but for me I can play both.
Madness but if you go to the settings.exe located where you installed the game, you will see player controls for gamepad and also keys. Eg if you're using a gamepad for player 1 you can set it there and then player 2 as keyboard which can probably be mapped there too.
Not sure which PES you mean though but this info will be for the classic versions of pes.

I agree on most of your points. The OP of this thread also spoke highly of PES2 in the earlier pages.

But with PES 2008 do you play PAL or NTSC? The PAL version is more difficult than the NTSC version, and I’ve had many 0-0 draws in 10 minute games on that title.

The defensive players do run off in strange patterns on all three versions though (including WE 2008), opening up space for the forwards. One of very few gripes with the otherwise excellent year of PS2 releases.

WE6 version works like a charm on the emulator but its not translated, shame that PES2 version stutters
On emulator I haven't stutters with PES 2

for WE6 (not the FE Version), there is a patched iso all in english (patch 1.0 + ENG by Rh4ps0dY and Evilgab):

and also FE version has a patched ISO in english but with graphics files taken from PES2 ISO... also start page audio claims "Pro Evolution Soccer 2"

I also Know there was WE6FE in ITA by WEforEver team

I would love to have some tips please on PES 2008 as I find it difficult?

I haven't played PES2/WE6 in awhile. Cos of the recent posts I decided to play a World Cup as Ukraine, Winning Eleven 6 on PS2 emulator, top player, some guy's UK patch. ALL 3 group games (vs Australia, Ireland and Germany) were 0-0. Was barely a clear chance for me or the AI, in any of the games. It felt different to what I usually play, PES2 on PS2, didn't feel quite as nice to play, but still fun even with 0 goals.

For me PES 2 doesn't stutter at all. What version are you using?

I downloaded regular Pro Evolution Soccer 2 (Europe) (EnFrDeEsIt) ISO and everything is perfect.
Mine stutters too ? Tried tweaking settings in the emulator without much success. Wonder if its the HCK iso Im using?

Hey, niceplay89.
I don’t know if you work on patch edits. But it would be interesting to take a look at Winning Eleven 5. Because all the kits were licensed, yet there are number collision errors on the logos and some imperfections that could be improved.

I’ll leave the direct download link. Ok

How gratifying it would be to have that in PES 2. Of course, if some editing expert is interested. They could import the textures.

Note: The very serious problem with the Winning Eleven 5 patch is that the audio has a bug (no sound).
That’s why I didn’t feel like playing it — I only know about this patch.
Personally, I love listening to the Dutch band sound and unfortunately none of that is present.

I downloaded that too, yet it stutters.

it works in 50 fps so maybe thats why? the japanese version is in 60 fps, i tried changing the game speed to match 60 fps but it till is choppy.
I remember having similar issue with clean PES 3 iso sometime ago and it went away.

I have low end PC, without graphic card for games, 99% people here have better PC then me, and I play literally PES 2, WE6, WE6 FE without zero lag or stutter.
This is my settings on emulator.

PS2 PAL version was 50 FPS; PS2 NTSC version was 60fps... because in Japan at the PS2 time they already had TVs in NTSC format while european's TVs were PAL, so PS2 games in europe were made for PAL TV format
