The Retro-PES Corner

I must say that Yair's gameplay patchs for PES are the best.
I hope he will work to improve another gameplay patch for PES 6 to make it like PES 5, and why not other PES games (2008-2009..)
Sadly his gameplay patch PES63 crashes during replay :/

@PeterC10: Hmm, good question: I always just press L2+R1 like a maniac in order to get it to the highest attacking level so I really don't know whether the intermediate level (orange) has any palpable effect.
About the effects of Aggression on CBs who go up for corners, on my PES5 ML, for example, Libermann and Jaric are the two CBs. The former is much taller than the other, has better Heading Acc. and worse Aggression (and worse Attack too). On corners/free kicks, whilst on a red attacking level (the highest), Libermann is the one that always goes forward, while Jaric stays at the back, with Ruskin the LB a bit less deep than him. I've just played a game in which Stremer played instead of Jaric and the same thing happened: Libermann up, Stremer at the back.

@MafiaMurderBag: At least one of the CBs always went up for corners on PES3 and I believe up until PES4/5, one didn't even have to manually change anything. Our notable retro-PES historian Professor @slamsoze shall correct me if I'm wrong, but attacking corners were reformulated after PES4 because the way teams explored this particular moment left them very vulnerable to counter-attacks. In typical Konami fashion, instead of solving this issue with better player positioning, they eliminated all the good work they had done on this regard and made teams adopt a super-conservative formation on attacking corners/free kicks, hence why you say you only see few players on the box regularly.

I did an interesting thing on my loong PES08 PS2 ML: created two alternate formations to be triggered manually (L2+Triangle/Circle/etc.): one for attacking set pieces and the other for defensive ones. Instead of messing around with att/def mentality, I'd just trigger these formations before the set piece et voilà, I got both CBs up for corners. However, soon I'd realize the Defensive one was useless because the lowest of the team mentality settings (light blue) actually brings almost everyone in our own box to defend the set piece, including, for example, my two strikers.

Our manager does that all the time, it's so frustrating.

It's another example of Konami's scatterbrained thinking of removing something perfectly good. As Peter said earlier, they could have just made it an option. Even on PES13 that I'm playing at the moment, you have the option to name players to go up for corners which is great but they just seem to replace others rather than add to what's already up there.

Talking of which some nice clips from some games I had earlier between some Danish D2 (3rd tier) teams. The lowish stats of these teams really showing up nicely with dragged shots and a wayward cross which almost went in. Along with some nice goals in there too, including an exquisite curled shot into the bottom corner. All ending with being surprised by a keeper who showed some real pace!

@geeeeee I wonder if there are any differences between PS2 and PS3 gameplay for PES 2008. I know it's your favorite game, so I wanted to ask you. :)

@Meazza84 I have never played a PS version, but I believe the PS3 2008 is the same as PC 2008 unfortunately. The PS2 2008 appears to be more of an advanced PES6.

OK, but how is the PC version different from the PS2 one in terms of gameplay? (I know the graphics are more advanced, which is understandable).

i guess you are playing on windows 10?

it is OS related issue, not system one. win xp, win 7 and win 8.1 don't have any problems :)

My last machine back in summer 18 was Win 10 and it was running smooth regardless. So happy to get it sorted on the new one!

Will be playing ML with default team as I think Manchester United. I very rarely touch England in PES, let alone United. Did this with Barcelona on clean PES 5 about two years ago. Complete reset. Starting from the bottom.

That Barca was built around Dima Berbatov, wonder who will be the cornerstone of United...:WASTED:

moderators can we get sheep emoji i need sheep emoji please 🐑

wait it seems to work!! 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑

I played a lot of the later PES titles on PS2 (2009 to about 2013 I believe) and it was exactly like an advanced PES 6. Gameplay was probably a bit different but it had the mechanics as PES 6 just with a few more animations and better graphics. The body and kit models looked much better than PES 6 and faces improved as well. If I remember correctly Master League was also more like current ML, with real currencies instead of points.

To touch on CBs going forward, I actually just remember now that in these later PES PS2 titles in rare circumstances CBs did come up. Usually it was in important games in the last few minutes, and when you ended up scoring it felt a bit scripted, like you got the perfect amount of space and the right animation.

My memory does n't help me on when exactly, but i remember that it did happen, as i was very annoyed. It felt as a step back. IIRC , still not sure for which game, in some corners, that was finals etc, and it was all or nothing, the game CPU would pick to bring in your GK inside the box, i remember you had to wait for him to run down the field, up to opponent penalty box.

I believe it plays and looks more like an advanced PES6 on PS2, where as the PS3 version is the same game as PES 2008 on PC, which in my opinion was an awful version.

Is that in an .exe? What patch is it in if any? Not sure I've ever played with that.

PES 6 PS 3 version.
Is PES 2008 on PS3 and PC
Same gameplay
There is not any PES 6 for PS3! Only a PES6 360 version for Xbox360 which is a PES 6 version too.

PES 2008 ps2 is an advanced PES 6. PES 2008 PC/PS3 is something else.

Literally started my ML Adventure with Default United with 7 draws in 9 leagues games 🐑

It's good to be back home.

As much as I hate default team, they are so impressive this time around. Ordaz - Hamsun are great up front, Ruskin is all over the left side and Huylens, despite being 36 is still so useful all around the pitch!

Hitzlsperger was the first "good" player in my team (random trade offer) so I guess he'll be the big captain. 🐑 funny how things turn out.

Loving it, Phoenix 10/11 is so incredibly polished, and it was made a decade ago!

stopd the pes2010 ML after two seasons, too easy
..back to pes6, kitserver with milanista OF, kingsley ball physix, cam tool, stat edit reduced agility and balance

3 games not scored once, one point so far, ps2 gen A.I. craps all over ps3 era games

PS; 2010 heavy bugs:
- through ball pass sometimes way too short, like 2m pass, happens every match several times
- slide tackle COM half the time is a foul but not given
- no penalties

@Madmac79 that's basically what the ultimate goal is, we have the means to do it, but need to build the tools... if that makes sense. Also various algorithms will have to be worked out, from how much stamina to dock from a player after he's played a certain amount of consecutive matches, to how to generate realistic new youth players.

One part that particularly excites me is that we could have an unlimited amount of teams with this tool. We would just need some placeholder teams in the main OF, and this tool can overwrite these teams with others that it has in its own database. As the idea (so far) is for all matches to be played in exhibition mode with the changes to OF adding context, all the user needs is the teams for the next match. So you could draw Crawley Town in the FA cup, the tool will overwrite a team in the OF with Crawley Town, and also update the kitserver kit files, player boots, faces etc, all the player has to do is reload the OF in-game (not sure how kitserver works with reloading, but worse case would just need to restart the game).

If you have achieve that (something like a teamserver) it would be amazing. Many have tried... unfortunately nobody could make it.
Rechi had a pretty innovative approach by trying to insert teams using the ML team slot. There's one team on the game (with ID) which can be edited/saved with any players. His idea was to import different players to that team (and everything related to it: logo, stadium, faces, etc..) and use those ML save teams (you can save it inside the game) ... I think we can achieve a point where we have a common database (outside the game) and be able to import them to the game (via OF or even those ML saved teams). The problem will be create a tool that would be able to import those to the game automatically or, better yet, without having to quit game.

Yes PES 2010 have a very fast tempo, and an easy CPU.
I hope someone Will share à gameplay patch for this game

@geeeeee Yes I think he did because it inspired me to give it another try, but try as I might I just couldn't get into it. Where as I tried 13 after he'd said about it and I am loving it.

Thanks. What did he change about it, is there a thread on it somewhere?
Well, let's say that (especially for PES63) the IA is agressive. And he play as a team. More intelligent in attack situations.
The problem that it crashs.

I vaguely recall something about that, do you know why that approach was stopped? A limitation with the game?

To make a team database we'd need to be able to do the following:

  • Import the players (no problem)
  • Import the club details - names, colours etc (this can be done in the PES Fan Editor so should be able to be adapted)
  • Import the club tactics (tactics can be edited in the PES Fan Editor so should be able to be adapted)
  • Import the club logo (can use the emblem slots on the OF)
  • Update kitserver config for faces, boots, kits, stadiums etc (updating the config shouldn't be a problem, but not sure if it requires the game to be restarted, will have to test this. From memory I believe kits can be updated on the fly)
I think I'll look to make a fairly simple first version which is a database for "Other Leagues B" which has 5 teams.

Also have to take into consideration the player ID. Maybe made a list of IDs that covers 32 players for 5 teams and have a rule that a group of 32 must belong to a certain team, or be unregistered.

Sorry for delayed answer but this is exactly what i would say. I will also add that from PES2009 onwards on the PS2 it was all down hill.

In what sense did it go downhill? I only tried PES 2012 on PS2 and I found it weird but I can't explain why.
