The PC Building Thread

yeah i am mate, can't wait to play pro evo and fifa on pc with patching etc

my mate today asked if i had anti-static gloves or static wristband, i didn't so i ordered...only cost me £3.50 for both

really can't wait to get it up and running...then i can sell my laptop then and recoup some cash once iv'e transferred all my stuff across

You don't really need any static protection tbh.
As long as you just sort of hold a radiator before you touch anything to earth yourself everytime you go to touch something.

Also obviously wear cotton and don't wear nylon or polyester as that is more likely to build up static quicker.
The main reason for anti-static precautions is you might not damage the goods now but you might have charged them therefore damaging the life slightly.

So the best thing to do now since you are going to do it and load it this weekend, download the latest drivers for your machine and any
applications you think you will need and put them on a USB pen ready. I wouldn't use the drivers on the manufacturer CD as they will be about 4-5 revisions out of date. The ATI drivers will be easy enough to find and use the Intel website for the chipset drivers for your motherboard.
The rest will be pretty easy to find as well I would expect.

Thanks mate will do this tonight

No, Steam is free. You pay per game.

So the concensus in here is that I SHOULD get an SSD to boot from then? Windows 7 and OS X should fit on a 90GB drive shouldn't they?
Not so sure Tim, Windows 7 on my PC with all my apps installed takes up MOST of my 120GB SSD Drive. Im only left with about 40GB Free which if I hackintosh'd my PC again and put OSX on it I would have zilch space left! Same applies to a real Mac IMO.

OpenOffice I'll probably stick on the SSD too, yeah. 120GB will be fine.

Sorry, I should say I'm replacing the MacBook SuperDrive with a 2.5" HDD caddy. So I'll have the 120GB SSD and a 250GB HDD.

Hey folks, so I bought a gaming PC from a reputable seller who custom builds PCs and then sells them. Tell me what you think of these specs.

This is system info:

Windows 7DE Ultimate Neo Reconia Systems
Service Pack 1

Manufacturer: Prince NRVL
Model: Dark Neo
Rating: 5.7

Processor AMD Phenom II X6 HEXA-CORE 1055T 2.8 Ghz CPU

RAM: 4GB

64 BIT OS

hooked on 47 Samsung LED

ok next issue is the back of the dvd drive the connection input is much larger to connect those sata cables to

so guessing i'll have to purchase another cable

Should look like this on both the DVD and HDD:

The small one on the left is where the SATA data cable goes, the longer one on the right is the power connector which will be amongst the mess of cables coming out of your PSU.
