The Movies Thread

Right.... saw quite a lot of films this week!

Fantastic Mr Fox - 9/10 - Really enjoyed it, kept me entertained all film. I'm also a huge Wes Anderson fan.

Wolfman - 7/10 - Good for the genre and good as a popcorn thriller. Special effects were pretty good, better than Avatar imo. I was surprised by how gruesome the film was. But don't expect it to be dark and deep, it is quite simple and is good for its genre.

Dorian Gray - 7/10 - I personally thought it did very well to capture the darkness and evil of Dorian Gray. When I was younger I read the Oscar Wilde book and therefore thought the film captured the whole concept of greed very well.

Daybreakers 6.5/10 - Good idea for a film, but the story line was quite stupid and there seemed to be pointless gore. The acting was a bit weird too and there were just far too many plotholes and detail.

Yup watched it over the weekend, it has its similarities with saw ect but its still pretty original! Defiantly worth watching if your into your horror/thriller movies.

UP (BD) - 9/10

Pixar does it again, flawless disc too.

The Collector - Blu-Ray = 8/10

Really enjoyed this. Bit graphic in parts, but kept me on the edge of my seat the whole film through.

It doesn't really explain the motivation of the killer/phsyco but I didn't feel it needed to as it is thoroughly entertaining for what it is and how it goes about it's gory action.

Moonlight - New Moon 2/10

My wife liked the books, so I have to watch the movies even if I knew before hand they would suck. But they suck even more than I imagined.

The hurt locker 8/10
Good characters and some good scenes in it. But something is missing to be a great movie. I would recommend it anyway.

How you manage to get it on Blu-Ray ?

Edge of darkness -

5/10 -

I read the synopsis and it seemed right up my street, but was extremely bored tbh.. Dont recommend at all

The Rebound - 7/10
Romcom fluff, but amusing enough

Up In The Air - 7/10
Anti romcom I guess, but amusing enough

Up - 8/10
Good pixar entertainment, pretty impressive how they did the opening section and the relationship (husband/wife) for an animation movie.

Not so much a movie, but seeing as they are as long;

Silent Witness - Shadows - 9/10
Was on a couple of weeks ago and was about a uni shooting. Thought it was really well done and the 1st half especially was really intense.

Shutter Island - 9/10

Magnificent movie...

Thrilling performances throughout...

One of a limited number of films I've come across that will surely get better with repeat viewings as there's so much content to absorb and work out the relevance to the story... Very clever and absorbing...

It does require some effort to watch and comprehend, but I love this sort of challenge in films sometimes, ie: 'Fight Club'

Interesting, I've seen the name but never looked into it at all. Will definately check it out now :TU:

Avatar 8/10

It was a good film, i went in this film thinking I'd hate it because I thought it wouldn't be my type of movie. The effects were good, and i liked the story.
