Alice In Wonderland 3D - 8/10

Really enjoyed it, far more than I expected. Not seen 3D in YEARS so seeing it again now is just incredible really and it makes films so much more interesting. They had a Sky 3D advert which showed the football and rugby, breathtaking!

Back to the film though, I thought they did a good job of the story considering I couldn't remember anything of the book or characters, I thought Johnny Depp was superb again, and the atmosphere of the film was great. Some slow bits where things dragged out and that brings the film down but I enjoyed it on the whole :)

Yeah it's really underwhelming given the hype it's now getting, don't understand how it did so well at the Oscars?! I mean it's alright and I enjoyed it but it's not exactly got a great story and not a lot actually happens. The best bit was the slow mo when the bomb goes off.

Shutter Island 7/10

Pretty good actually, the ending was good I thought. A nice twist. My missus thought that they had brainwashed him, but I think he was a patient and crazy all along. However his last line makes me think, when he said "Would you rather live as a monster, or die as a good man?". Maybe he had just accepted that he was never going to get off the island and instead of keep fighting it, just said that he was mental.

Shutter Island 6/10

WOW, I could not believe that Scorsese went with that cheap plot twist, I saw that coming at the first trailer, very disappointing. Once you expect the unexpected is not unexpected at all.
Plot twists are overrated and Hollywood should care more about story development. Which was the biggest flaw in that movie by the way, I don't care that much if the twist was predictable or not.
The biggest issue is that the story doesn't improve at all and it just drag itself for 3 hours by the time the twist happens you're are exhausted already.

Just like the Hurt Locker, it just hurt my patience as it doesn't improve. And thats considered a good script  Maybe I don't know nothing about movies.

The Road = 3/10

Good god this is boring... Only redeeming feature is a great performance by Vigo. He is a wonderfuly versatile actor. Even with material this poor he achieves a great level of acting... Without him, I'd have turned this snorefest off...

And that kid constantly calling 'Pappa'.... Jeez!!! I couldn't connect with the kid at all

Goonies on Blu Ray 9/10

love this film, haven't watched it for years.

The guy that plays Chunk was a very good actor. Bit over the top, but I think he made that movie.

Blast from the past.

Shutter Island - 7/10

I like the way it was presented, the music and atmosphere was really good.

Saw the twist coming about halfway through though and kinda took away from the rest of the film.

A serious man 8.3/10

Great movie. wonderful funny dialogue that made stuff about Jewish religion interesting for me even though im not Jewish.

highly recommend it

And what did you think of the actual outcome? Did you think he was crazy all along? Or they brainwashed him?

Interesting points. The last line about living as a monster or dying as a good man, and then he voluntarily goes with the people to be taken to the lighthouse made me think as well.

I think he did come to the island to investigate but they started to dope him up with drugs etc. And like they said, he's been there for the two years once the drugs had taken effect.

They've tried to get him back to normal to get him back into society but that's the thing, I don't know if he's the FBI guy at the very end or if he's Andrew Liedson (or whatever his name was).

I like these kinda films where the interpretation is left open though :)

Defendor - 9/10

Brilliant film. The main character has bags of charisma and charm, pretty much keeping you smiling all the way through the movie. Well recommended!

What was the quality like?

It was really good.

I am having a problem though, when it shows some night time scenes, the picture seems to be a bit hazy/fuzzy. It happened in 'full metal jacket' aswell? so I think it might be my player.

should it be just as crisp as the other scenes on bluray? or is it because they are old films?

I don't really know the dynamics of why picture quality changes to be honest.

I highly doubt it's your player, you're probably right in saying it could be because they're old films.

Perhaps the quality of when they were shot isn't the same as now, in fact I'd definitely say it isn't and shooting anything at night, whether it's film footage or still images is invariably gonna be worse than daylight because cameras rely on the light to keep up the quality.

Cool, I will have a look at some more recent films soon and compare. I've got 300 to watch and some others, so hopefully they are better.

But bluray is so nice to watch. Really looks so much crisper.

300 in blueray was a bit of a let down for me. Nobody knows why on earth they decided to add a kind of "grainy" filter to the picture. It's absurd they decided to put it and I will always hate them for it.

300 is probably not the best one to compare it to then

Toy Story 1 and 2 were £12 when the deal started but I hesitated and they were sold out not long afterwards. £17 is still a good deal but it can wait now.

District 9 bluray 8/10 I think

Not sure about it. I loved the concept, the different take on things. The special effects I was really impressed with - looked great on bluray.

Not sure if I liked the documentary type feel to it. Thought the main character at the beginning wasn't believable, but he ended up to be really good.
