The Movies Thread

Saw Avatar 3D last night. Dont normally go in for soppy films like that, but was very well done and I didnt think the acting was 'too' bad.

More violent than I thought it would be too.

Missus was in pieces after it though!

sounds 100% like you experienced my evening...:P

basically what you said, but gotta add, the visuals were absolutely stunning, best thing i've ever seen on a screen. watched it on our big ass imax (we've got the biggest in europe) and damn it was impressive.

Dennis Hopper only has a few weeks to live!!!

When did this happen!?

That sucks :( One of my favourite actors and even more so as he has the same birthday as me...

RIP.

Not seen anything on this, not one of my fave actors but it's sad news...

I only heard yesterday when I read about him trying to divorce his wife ASAP before he dies. She kicked up a huge fuss or something because she's not getting much from him when he pops it. I can't recall the specifics but something to do with a prenuptial they arranged and if he dies - and so he said 'right fuck off'.

Duffy is furious about being left only 25 cents on the dollar -- the same payout spelled out in their prenuptial agreement

bader-meinhoff complex (best german film I have ever seen, and maybe only that I can remember) but really great flick 9/10

This is England(ok movie, the chicks in the flick really grossed me out, especially smelly, and i thought it was a little disturbing that she was making out with a ten year old). I has gotten me to read a book about the falkland war now... What I dont get and maybe someone can explain it to me, how in the hell did they get away with robbing the market? how come they were not arrested

Avatar 3D - 7/10

I enjoyed the 3D but the film itself is average.

The Hurt Locker (BD) - 8.5/10

Enjoyed this, lovely sound too.

Inglorious Basterds 8.5/10

Really good film but the hype I had heard meant I felt a bit let down in the end. There wasn't enough humour in it which was a surprise for a Tarantino movie. Having said that the dialogues and use of music were fantastic and the story was pretty impressive too but I just didn't think it was QT's masterpiece as had been suggested. I'd watch it again though.

well i thought it was a remake...

Sherlock Holmes

Law and Downey Jr are great together. But so is Mark Strong.
The story is simple but it's cool and very well told.
Can't wait for the sequel.

8/10

2012 2.5/10

Rubbish film. Why they felt the need to drag this on for over two and a half hours is beyond me. Totally unrealistic and far fetched, especially the special effects, I was so bored by half way I can't even say what happened in the end because I wasn't paying enough attention!! Just dire.

The Triangle - Blu Ray = 7/10

I quite enjoyed this. Mixture of 'Ghost Ship' and 'The Machinist' (great film The Machinist is btw)

I took out of it she was a tortured soul forever doomed to live in an eternal cycle of events as punishment for how she treated her son

Sherlock Holmes - 7/10

Good action/comedy/buddy movie. Nothing special though.

I thought The Machinist was pretty poor really, could see the clue coming a mile off. Good performance by batman though.

@ Jumbo:
Africa comes to the rescue with a "beautiful" piece of morality

Yeah we also watched Sherlock Holmes at the weekend, I liked it slightly more than Nat did.

I watched Bruno last week, very funny, especially the last scene, nothing like seeing a bunch of white trash American homophobes freaking out :)

I watched The Hangover again this weekend and its brilliant

Even the tunes they play fit perfectly

La la la la wait till i get my money right

I also watched the hangover this weekend and thought it was utterly boring. I didn't have any laugh with it, gags are primitive and gross and in my oppinion it's a bad mix-copy of "Very bad things" and "Bachelor party" without any of the good things of both movies.

There are definitely some good idea but for me they were totally ruined by specially poor dialogues and jokes about sex. The oriental guy was abysmal by the way.

Overall I would give it a 4.0/10, below zombieland.
