The Movies Thread

He's getting better. :D

The Invention of Lying - 6/10
Some amusing moments, but not much more

Surrogates - 7/10
I-Robot meets Minority Report.....Sadly it's more I-Robot.

The Final Destination - ?/10
Turned it off after 10min. I don't think it would have been a high score.

Been doing a bit of movie watching over the festive period :))

7 pounds 7/10

Good movie but the end seemed too rushed for my liking.

Inglorious Basterds 8.5/10

Can see why so many people liked it, but I don't think it was as amazing as everybody said. Still a very good film though.

Pelham 123 7/10

I liked Washington and Travolta, but so many areas where I just thought, 'as if they wouldn't notice that' etc etc which ruins movies for me. But was still entertaining.

Star Trek 8/10

Really enjoyed it. I hate Star Trek (All the old films etc) but I really liked this one.

Surrogates 6/10.

Good idea, but again, poor execution. Too many plot holes that make you constantly think of things that don't really relate to the plot, so you keep losing concentration.

For those who have watched it or know about it... how do people eat, drink or stay fit? and how to people reproduce??? Also... how do poor people afford them???

they eat in the house they live in. diddnt u see bruce come out of his surrogate and helping himself in his fridge?

the rest of your questions i do not know matey. Another question is how comes the vehicles are not futuristic? When is this movie set?

I think its set around 10-20 years from now... so I'd expect cars to be relatively similar. Another thing... wouldn't restaurants be completely pointless seeing as the robots don't eat? And for example his wife... does she ever eat???? If they worked on the movie more, or if a better director did it... i think the film could have been an amazing sci-fi film.

2012- 9/10

Really enjoyed it. I'm a fan of Emmerich's disaster films and enjoy the spectacular special effects. Its a little cheesy and exaggerated but its a good and simple adventure/disaster film with John Cusack -I'm a fan btw.

If you want holes in a story you only have to look at 2012! Great effects....nothing else. And it's not a little cheesy and exaggerated, it's ridiculously OTT. I mean a
car driving through a collapsing building starting at ground level but somehow managing to fly out at the 2nd floor?! The overpass collapsing with it connecting with the bakc of the roof the whole way!
. Emmerich went too far with those scenes, and most of the movie really. Thought The Day After Tommorow was a lot better because of it.

I really enjoyed the effects, and the movie in general. Shows how good they were to be able to overcome the cringworthy shite that was the story, with some lovely morals thrown in for good measure.

Africa comes to the rescue of the Rich, Horrible West. Just to add some kind of important message at the end. How apt, after spending a few hundred million on a commercial movie to earn even more money.

Law Abiding Citizen
8/10
Good film, didnt lose interest at any point and a couple of parts were maybe unnecessarily fucking brutal!! The story and acting were good The only bit that annoyed me was
how Nick was supposed to be a top lawyer but he was acting and being treated like he was the top detective in the police force.

Oh and Gerard Butler's mouth is annoying.

The Hurt Locker - 7/10

Not really what I expected, a lot of it felt more like a documentary but in a way it was interesting how they did it. A bit too slow at times for me but gives an interesting insight.

Not as great as space ice cream!

Avatar - 10/10

Wow. I thought everyone had fell for the hype and made out the film was better than it was. I went into the film doubting how good it would be, the story just seemed weak. But I stand corrected, it was an incredible film and it really takes you on a journey. I hate all the metaphor shite that people say but Avatar really did feel like a good book translated perfectly to screen where nothing was missed out. The CGI was amazing and I had to stop a few times and remind myself that this wasn't a real planet. Hats off to James Cameron, he's made one of the best films I've seen and raised the bar again. Amazing stuff.

The Men Who Stare at Goats 7/10

Watched this thinking it was going to be a comedy.... but it really isn't that kind of film. I thought the characters, especially Clooney, were very likeable. The plot was quite nice, even though the book its based on isn't meant to be fictional. The humor in this is quite dry and dark, but still quite a nice watch.

Carriers - 6/10

For a film showing four young people fighting desperately to survive a life destroying virus, these guys play golf, laugh and joke and get within breathing distance of the infected at every opportunity they get!

Not a bad film, just a bit sloppy in it's direction.

2012 - 1/10
Completely annoying from start to end, the worst acting I've seen in decades. I expected the worst movie of the year, but the first 10 minutes where even worse than that and form that point on, it only went even worse.

Avatar - 7.5/10
Spectacular movie in all the technical aspects. Really breathtaking what they've done depicting the wild life and hundreds of diferent insects, plants and animals. Really a marvel to contemplate in 3d. Now, the actual script is cheesy, predictable and quite weak.

I wasn't to keen on Avatar either

All the effects and stuff are brilliant and the best i have seen but the story is pretty shit so it get 6/10
