The Movies Thread

Guess you went to the 2d version :P

Haha no, 3d at the IMAX in Birmingham. I really enjoyed the film and would recommend seeing it but (and these aren't plot spoilers but still)...
The story wasn't original. Neither were the characters. Or the dialogue (extremely cheesy for the most part "I didn't sign up for this shit" etc.). The only thing setting this film apart from many others before is the presentation, which is awesome.

Yeah the Na'vi do take the whole bond thing to another level but a group of people sympathetic to the land they inhabit versus power hungry corporate grunts... hmmm.
I'd call it a big stupid film and I don't mean that negatively.

Exactly my thoughts but the lack of original storyline is the only reason I won't give a 10, even with that problem I still got soooo into the movie. I wanna see it again.

Thanks Cameroon, the wait was well worth it.

Didn't realise they filmed it there. Must have needed to do it to keep the budget from going into the billion. :D

Can't wait to see this now, I know the story won't be anything special but the effects sound great!

Halloween 2 (Directed by Rob Zombie)

6.5/10

Boy did this film get a lot of negative reviews, which are totally unfounded in my opinion. As a huge fan of the horror genre and the original Halloween movies (excluding the 3rd of course), I have to admit I enjoyed the refreshing take on the Michael Myers story and genuinely think they have added something useful to the story. I for one enjoyed the first Halloween remake; the exploration into Michael Myers past and his relationship with his family really added another dimension to the series, which continued on in Halloween 2. Halloween 2 was pretty grim in parts and overall was quite a dark movie, but I again enjoyed the take on what was really driving Michael Myers to continue the search for his sister and to reunite his family. I do prefer the original films overall as the atmosphere and suspense created throughout the earlier films surpassed the need for all the blood and gore, but these films should definitely be given credit for adding something new to the series. I hear that Rob Zombie is planning a third film and have to say I'm looking forward to it.

Avatar - 9/10

Went to see it last night, really good movie. Found it very Spielberg-esque really. The story is decent enough, fairly generic sci-fi fantasy, but it's done well. 3D is really really cool. Can't wait till AAA games are that far!

Carriers - 7/10

Better than I expected. Zombieland but ... without zombies and the comedy factor I guess. Quite liked this one.

Got that on the harddisk, haven't watched it yet.

District 9 - 8/10

Enjoyable Alien stuff. Liked the whole ghetto-side of the story. Went a bit offcourse with the "hybrid" but still a good movie.

Avatar 3D

I enjoyed every moment. Beautiful.
The 3D was new to me but it worked perfectly.
I'm not sure I'll try 3D any time soon, I got a crazy headache now, but what an experiment it was.
I thought the story is not that conventional, except maybe the big finale.

9/10

;) okay, maybe should be refering to zooey deschanel than. she's cute and natural, bit crazy, totally love her.

This is It

Brilliant show and would have been the best ever concert IMO. The guy looked fitter and healthier then those 20+ year old dancers.

Wished their was more interviews and discussion though but overal it was a great documentary
