The Movies Thread

I'd not seen a Star Wars film in my life before this month. Previously I wasn't interested at all, I thought it was for the breed of nerd that has no life whatsoever (rather than my breed of nerd, that still has a small percentage of life lived outside this house).

I watched it in order from 1-6 (rather than the original release order) and I've got to admit I absolutely loved it. It's just so well written and so well put together, and the characters are great as well. I'm actually really gutted that there's no more to watch. Seriously gutted.

So much so that I've traded in MGS4 for Star Wars The Force Unleashed.

Yeah welcome to earth Chris.

The Clone Wars animated series is meant to fill in a lot of the plot holes and carry the series on. Its done by Lucas.

Do you like the 'new' 3 or the 'original' 3? I prefer the original ones because of the way they were filmed - you can tell that its not 95% special effects like in the recent 3.

I honestly preferred the first three; something about the story really grabbed me. The last three were a bit less interesting and a bit more traditional, more predictable.

The following is spoilered for those who haven't watched Star Wars yet (although apparently I'm the only one :D):

Bear in mind I went into it knowing nothing about the story (apart from the "Luke I am your father" line); watching someone who you thought was going to be the big hero turn into Darth Vader was just stunning, and I didn't see it coming. I knew that the guy who was on the council was evil, you could tell that as soon as you saw him, but that was about it.

The third one was my favourite by far, just blew me away, and I knew when I'd watched it that I couldn't possibly like the remaining parts more than that one.
I will have to get hold of The Clone Wars; so it's a series? I thought it was a film? Or is there both?

I mean Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. I watched them in 1-6 order remember. ;) Glad I did, I think it was far better that way.

Where have you been... Not seen the original star wars!!! tribesmen in deepest Africa who have never seen a caucasian still know the "Luke I know what you are getting for Christmas... I have felt your presents" joke...

you never cease to amaze... :TU:

I'm jealous, I think I would've preferred watching them like you did. I assume it involved living under a rock until yesterday though.

I plan to watch something tonight, but I'm quite stuck. I don't want any horror movie I just want something maybe funny? or action. Does anyone have any recommendations?

RocknRolla - 4/10

Beginning was OK, end was alright, and the middle was just plain odd :SS. I think Guy Ritchie was trying to be a bit too subtle and weird, and it just all got a bit odd and broken up, and therefore difficult to follow. The dialogue was pretty poor too, swearing just for swearings sake and trying to be hard, funny Londoners.

Pretty poor actually :((.

Stef, I don't know if you know the answer to this but I'm a bit confused. If I go and rent the DVD of the Clone Wars animated series, does the film then carry on from the end of that, or is the film exactly what happens in the animated series but better (i.e. fancy graphics)?

The Clone wars comes between Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith... ;))

Luke.. I mean Chris all you will ever need to know about the universe you can find here, may the force be with you...

Thanks for that Nick but it doesn't answer my question and that website is a bit... Complicated. :|

I'm wondering if the Clone Wars animated series tells the exact same story as the Clone Wars film, and that the only difference is that the series is cartoony and the film is 3D.

Not at all. In fact the movie (which aint good) "is intended to act as an introduction to the television series of the same name, which is set to debut in October, 2008."

The cartoon series is a masterpiece. And the 3D films are made to continue making money, that's all. It's like the cartoon series never happened... It's a bit weird.
