The Movies Thread

Yep, it's far better. Better story without all of the Hollywood nonsense thrown in.

Just watched The Machinist, was told in work that it was one of the best films the guy had seen (and he constantly watches movies).

Good film, very creepy and some awesome acting by Bale. 8/10 from me.

If you liked Christian Bale in The Machinist I'd recommend that you check out American Psycho if you haven't already. Brilliant film.

Just watched The Dark Knight last nite.I wont give anything away but I have to say that what they all said about the Joker is true.Heath Ledger's portrayal of the villan is magnificent. He was lost in character entirely.Best villan by far in any superhero movie.10 out of 10.

You get the usual superb action from Christian Bale but I felt that Maggie Gyllenhaal is too old to be Rachel Dawes, she looks old too,not hot at all.Brilliant supporting acts from Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent.

A 10 out of 10 superhero flick with superb script and storyline.

Cheers mate, I'll get that too then :TU:

Any other films you recommend? You recommended Gamers and that was good so it sounds like you have a decent taste in films :))

Sounds good :DD

You're in the UK though? How did you see it? Cam?

Saw Wall-E yesterday and I agree Dags. Amazing film. The way they capture the emotions and feelings of the characters through animation is incredible. The first part of the film has no dialogue and you really feel sorry for Wall-E's sad little life at the beginning.

What a film

For anyone thats seen it:

For some reason the scene near the beginning when he gets home from work and put in the video of that song with the people dancing that he always sings along to (not the romance one where he holds his own hands together), actually got to me emotionally more than any other film has recently. You just feel so sad for him that the only thing he can get excited for in his life is this old video of people dancing.

Recently watched Layer Cake and Lock Stock. Both excellent British films.

Another brilliant Christian Bale film is The Prestige. Very clever.

Just out of interest what's your favourite film? I watch a lot of films so could point you in the right direction of films you may not have seen.

(Mine is Pulp Fiction if you were wondering ;)))

LOADS of emotional moments for a bloody cartoon!

The fact that all he ever says is his name and Eva's someone makes it a bit sad too. The way they've managed to convey his personality without him speaking is incredible, just his actions alone attach you to him.

Seen all of those, all good movies too.

Don't really have a favourite but Crash and Schindler's List have made good impressions on me, as has The Green Mile.

I guess I like the drama/thriller genre's more than action but I do like action movies.

I'll watch anything as long as it's good. Even "Mean Girls" was decent!

Haha yeah. It's all very well done. Glad I saw it in the cinema too. Theres also bits you laugh at which you wouldn't normally but the animation makes it great. The fire extinguisher scene in space for example

And the cockroach

This is from the IMDB board:

LOL: But Wall E's pet cockroach is so cute and endearing that I actually became upset when (SPOILER ALERT):

1. Eve blasts him with her mini atom bomb gun thingamabob.
2. Wall E launches into space after Eve, leaving the poor little guy on a desolate, lifeless planet all by himself.
3. Wall E callously runs over him at the end.

Now THAT'S great characterization!

Very true!

Review from Empire, who gave it 5/5

If you appreciate a heart-warming, well made film, check out 'In America' or 'Angela's Ashes'.

Both really good films.

Ah I see, I seen "Little Mancunia" and assumed Manchester

Stef, what are your thoughts on Batman?

Daylight Robbery - 6/10

British heist movie. Not bad really, British movies tend to be pretty poor but this was okay really. Some decent acting, some poor acting as well though. Worth a watch if you like heist movies but don't expect it to blow you away.

Watched 'A Room for Romeo Brass' today. What a great story. Have to say I love Shane Meadows films, my favourites being 'This is England' and 'Dead Man's Shoes'. There's just something really heart-warming about British films.

(He's a local lad aswell ;)))

Ah, Dead Man's Shoes, quality film. :TU:

I saw Wall-E on Saturday and have to agree with the general consensus on here, really good film. A definite divid or BluRay purchase I'd say. It also has Jeff Garlin as the captain, which makes it funnier. (Although that might be because all I could imagine was Curb's Susie calling him a "fat fuck")

Does it help to have watched the other Batman films before seeing the new one? I have seen them but MANY MANY years ago.

I watched The Bank Job last night

very good film in my opinion, i wonder how much was actually true though?

You just need to watch Batman Begins. The others arent by Nolan and are very 'hollywood'. Nolan wanted to start from scratch.

By the way I'm going to see Dark Night tomorrow instead, had a fever last night:(

What annoys me is how some people give an instant 10 to a film they like and a 1 to films they dont like. Also hope people aren't simply giving this film a 10 because of Heath Ledger's tragedy.

Don't get me wrong, I think its going to be great. But I don't want to overhype this film!

I hate when that happens, totally agree, im sure its going to be quality but no need to make it sound like its the best film ever made.

You Don't Mess with The Zohan

I loved the trailer but the movie is beyond my expectations.
I know a lot of people will hate it but not me !!!

8+/10

I finally watched Cloverfield today and can't work out whether I liked it or not, which isn't really a good sign. It was ok, no story line at all though and no really scary or exciting bits but the action was alright I suppose. I feel a bit let down cos I was told it was great. 6/10
