The Movies Thread

wolf of wall street, good movie, sometimes to long parts for my liking.

i like the supporting actor more than Di Caprio...

7/10

Wolf of Wall Street - 8/10.

It's not often I can say that a film this long held my interest throughout.

American Hustle - 7/10

Solid film, great cast but the story lacks something.

Life of Pi - 9/10

Excellent. Simply excellent. Very little films can combine astounding CGI, a very decent script and a powerful, outstandingly told story. The ending is mindblowing, but also very meaningful. Deserved the Oscar way more than Argo last year.

Btw, has anyone seen Rush?

Agreed. Life of Pi was excellent.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit - 6.5/10

Gravity = 8/10

Really enjoyed it.

Expected to be bored but wasn't.

Would have preferred a more dramatic ending but still very good, for a Hollywood film... ;)

The Words (Netflix) 7.5/10

Enjoyed this, others may not rate it well but I had a connection with it.

Arbitage (Netflix) - 6/10

Decent film but the story has too many holes in it.

Olympus Has Fallen (Netflix)

I only lasted one hour, garbage.

Safe House (BD) - 6.5/10

Zero Dark Thirty (BD) - 8/10

About Time - 8/10

Far better than I expected. Funny and it helps that Rachel McAdams and Margot Robbie are involved :D

Spectacular Now It's sort of a romance-movie, and I normally don't like romance-movies, but wow, this one is great, deep, meaningful and simply awesome. It was so close to get a full 10/10 from me, but they handled one part of the story a bit wrongly, so a well-deserved 9/10 it is!
One of the best movies I saw the last few years.

Yeah I too doubted 'The Hunger Games' films but I really enjoyed them.

Sure they have flaws but are very entertaining nonetheless. I'm looking forward to the next two.

Jenifer Lawrence is star and has a fantastic screen presence.

^ It was awful as a movie itself...

It's Kind of a Funny Story - 8/10

A very touching and meaningful movie. The humor might be a little foolish and infantile, but its themes are excellent, the acting is pretty good and it's narrative is almost perfect.

12 Years a Slave - 8.5/10

Pretty damn good. The setting is as impressive as the acting. It feels so real, so touching. Script is average, but the directing is not bad at all. Nyong'o must take the Oscar home, but I'm not too sure about Ejiofor and Fassbender (both were smashing anyway, especially Michael)

Lone Survivor - 8/10.

Intense and emotional, excellent film.

Hunger Games 2, another 7.5/10, good enough movie again.

Quite enjoyed this series, when I thought it would be a huge no-no for me.

Watched After Life, 6/10. Not too great to be honest, but okay.

Gravity 4/10
I am clearly missing something about Gravity.
Everyone gives it amazing reviews, but I found it pretty boring and one of the most predictable films I have ever seen.

American Hustle 6.5/10
Pretty decent film, but just felt it lacked something.

Elysium 2/10
Awful, just awful.

Im with you on this one. Bored me shitless

An opinion of a film is very subjective.

What one person enjoys, another would dismiss as terrible. This doesn't make it matter of fact.

I liked 'Gravity' but can see why people didn't enjoy it. Not interested in beating people around the head with stating 'you are wrong, Gravity is awesome!'

American Hustle - 8/10

Quite good, not bad at all. I liked the twist ending, but I think they might have rushed it a bit. For the first time in years, I consider any Oscar nominee worthy of taking it home.
