The Movies Thread

Agreed, Intouchables is a great french movie 9/10.

Watched Man of steel:

Liked the movie a lot, it felt fresh and energetic.
Wished only to have seen more from Clark's life in smallville growing up, either through more flashbacks or through telling it ordinarily without flashbacks.

It definitely smokes Superman Returns but doesn't reach the quality of the first two Reeve-movies.

That Superman killed Zod is imho not a problem at all. But that Superman and Zod destroy half of Metropolis with ten thousand casualties and more without Superman reflecting upon it nor giving any thought to it, is a real let down

7/10

Iron Man 3 was imho great, except for two things:
Tony Stark telling on TV where he lives and the lame standard boring finale.
The movie had great potential but these two things dragged it down considerably. Better than the second Iron Man though.

7.5/10

The Lone Ranger

8.5/10 from me. Typical Johny Depp humor. Funny. People at imdb may not agree with me (6.6/10). Including missus, she just asked me what makes it funny seconds later after JD makes his implicit moves/jokes :TTTH:

Gravity - 9/10

Wow. Such a well-done film and probably the most suspenseful and edge-of-your-seat movie I've ever seen. Well worth the hype. Brilliant.

The Fighter - 8/10
21 Jump Street - 7/10
Bad Boys - 7/10
Shooter - 6/10
Bridesmaids - 6/10
Vantage Point - N/A

Its too predictable and the replaying of scenes from different perspectives is poorly executed, overall just poor storytelling.

Bridesmaids same rating as Shooter?!!!!
Bridesmaids was absolute bunk and not funny. I laughed twice and the rest was just utter gash. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it. I normally laugh my head off at funny stuff so yeah, maybe it wasn't really that funny. Really enjoyed Shooter. Normally watch some of it when it's repeated.

Bridesmaids was OK, not worthy of the hype it got at the time (The Hangover too), its also too long, it should have been wrapped up in ninety/one hundred minutes.

Shooter was also OK in a different way, I had a pre determined view about it before I watched it and it didn't do anything to change that.

I've bought Senna and Once Upon a Time in America, need to watch some serious stuff again.

Thor the Dark World. 5/10. Average at best. The only highlight was Loki. Save your money and go see Gravity in 3D instead. You will be glad you did!

12 years a slave; 9/10. Probably the must see film of the year. Loses a point because of the way some stars are portrayed in the film. We don't think of them as characters because there is no development. "Hey look its Brad Pitt" or "Its the guy from Mad Men" etc....

HOBBIT 2

its a decent movie if u HAVENT SEEN THE LOTR serie(because the only characters who u know and u would worry about ARE IN THE SEQUELS(so u cant worry about their health) and as for the dwarfs and other characters, they are not well presented to care about them, they tired but ummm...u'll see)

but even then it has flaws:

- after 180 minutes walking and talking now its 160 minutes ACTION ONLY
- uncalled Peter Jackson cameo
- drinking brandy in Middle Earth
- mops(dog) walking on Middle Earth

Its defenitly worth to watch it tho if u are a fan and/or u saw the LOTR serie.

Prisoners = 8/10

Very well acted by both Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman.

Had a few flaws with the police missing obvious leads but overall, very good thriller

Captain Phillips 8/10

amazing realistic thriller, Tom Hanks really did great, especially the last scene, heartwarming !

Invictus (BD) - 7/10

Truly inspiring movie with Freeman portraying Mandela (obviously) very well on his way to reunite South Africa. It just has the "problem" that the history is known, which takes a lot of its tension as the end is already known and can't be different. And I think it might be more interesting to people that actually know and like the sport of Rugby, a group that I don't count myself to.

12 Years a Slave = 7/10

Good to great acting slightly spoiled by an underwhelming script and direction.
Brilliant performance by the ever talented Michael Fassbender who is shaping up to be a truly wonderful actor.

Ride Along 7.5/10
