The Movies Thread

It's a Chris Morris film so should actually be funny.

Well, just watched Kick ass and was exactly what I was waiting for: a teen movie, just as zombieland. Except this one has some moments of good direction of action. Anyway, just an average film, I would rate it 4/10 but some very good pieces of action make it a 6/10.

Kick Ass - 5/10

Not really sure why this is getting such acclaim????

I was really looking forward to it after after reading such positives, yet it left me completely flat.

HBO: Band Of Brothers 10-Part Mini-Series

10 / 10

Second time I've watched this and I think this has got to be the best war-movie/mini-series ever. The characters, the effects and the story is simply amazing. Many of the actors you'll recognize.

I reckon the Pacific is great but nothing compared to Band of Brothers. In Band Of Brothers you felt a connection with your characters, whereas in the Pacific you don't have that same recognition for each character.

Inside Man (BD) - 9/10

Beverly Hills Cop 2 - 10/10

Have to agree with The Pacific v BoB comparison.

BoB is great, 10/10, Pacific is an 8,5/10. I think they screwed it up by having the series go from one group to another the whole time. It was starting to get BoB good when they were stuck on the same island for a couple of episodes and you started to learn about each character and their sense of humour and stuff. However then it just went to another group with new people and you had to start all over again.

Maybe it wasn't possible due to the actual events but it has made it poorer.

Shutter Island - 8,5/10
Good movie; good setting, good atmosphere, good ending.

I think the complete opposite about BoB and the Pacific. I felt the suffering and horror of the USMC was much stronger than that of the Army in BoB. The Marines were the first line in the Pacific, whereas Easy Company were entering an already existing fight.

I was really hyped up for The Pacific and then since it's been out I've barely watched ten minutes of it.

Just can't get into it at all.

Band of Brothers is epic though, and well worth having on Blu-Ray.

BOB are different only due to the relationship they continued years after imo makes it more impact-full. Whereas Pacific they had many , many casualty and they couldn`t find the same relationship . I would like to see bob in other countries that would be very educational .

i think you guys should read the books.. . easy company lost plenty of men... i don't think the suffering and horror were any different. The difference was that the men in Europe felt they were making a difference, they were beating the Germans back and liberating cities on the way. In the pacific we got the shit kicked out of us and for what? a piece of rock with zero importance that we ended up giving back anyways... In a sense milanista you are right, the Japanese were ruthless when it came to prisoners(very horrific torture stories) and i can be honest when I tell you my 80 year old grandpa to this day hates the Japanese, but does not have the same ilk towards the germans(is that right? probably not but the feelings run deep because of what happened to his friends in the hands of the Japanese) if we had not dropped the bomb the pacific theater might have ended up like Vietnam, in the sense that it would have been a long drawn out war. I would like a band of brothers told from the japanese or vietnamese point of view for that matter..

Honestly I'm contented with both series, they were both very interesting and watchable. I kind of hope they release a new series for the war in Vietnam, despite the USA losing that terrifying war it would be awesome to see the viewpoint of a group of young soldiers fighting in guerilla warfare, with the influence of drugs and the war stress. But I don't see this coming out especially since it took HBO over 10 years to develop The Pacific after Band of Brothers.

The Fall 10/10

I know I don't give that many tens but I feel like this is a well deserved one.
Perfect movie, a visual experience, touching storyline, great acting, fearless, fucking brilliant...
I wonder how I've never heard of Tarsem, shame on me, but is never to late to find out about wonderful movies.

Some other movie reviews,
Sex Drive 8/10
She's Out of My League 6/10
Was looking for some comedies and found out about these guys, Sex Drive is pure fun, plain stupid comedy that are rare these days,
She's out of my league, from the same guys, ain't that fun, its that popular stupid yet sweet style, not really my thing, damned you Apatow.
Anyhow I look forward to Hot Tub Time Machine another movie from those guys that will come out soon...

Gran Torino 9/10 Clint Eastwood still the man, great performance, great movie.

Brooklyn's Finest

8.5/10

Really good film. Loved Training Day so thought I'd check out this film as it's based in a similar setting, with the drugs trade and the Police force. A number of stories all running alongside each other and overall a good interlinking between them. Quality acting from Don Cheadle, Richard Gere and Ethan Hawke overall. A must see.
