The Master League adventures thread

@Kopite1990 When I would do a ML using the Japanese and Thai leagues, I always followed the league rules on foreign players too. It was a lot of fun.

Definitely adds to the fun mate, and the realism.

I have found that it prolongs some of my saves too as you have to build the squad more organically, rather than just filling it with superstars once your funds start to grow.

We reach the halfway point in season 2 of my JEF United Master League and we find ourselves in a fantastic position after a really good first half of the season:

We sit 4 points clear at the top of the table, a massive overachievement based on our squad and resources. We have remained hard to beat, with just 4 league goals conceded so far we have relied on our defensive ability as the basis of our success.

Goals have still been hard to come by but we have managed to grab a few 1-0 wins and snatch some late winners.

The form of last seasons top teams (Yokohama F. Marinos, Urawa Reds and Kawasaki) has been really poor, meaning we have been able to take advantage of a really open league this season.

Oda has been in fantastic form up front, the 20 year old has really stepped up this season and looks to be our key player as we head into the second half of the season.

Luongo and Kikuchi have been the pick of our new signings. Luongo has dominated several opponents from CM and Kikuchi has been a massive part of our defensive success at CB.

One of the main highlights of the season so far was a late 1-0 win against our Prefecture rivals, Kashiwa Reysol. Yajima came off the bench to tap home an 86th minute winner 🙌🏻

Unfortunately we crashed out of The Emperors Cup again in the second round. Kashima Antlers got the better of us in a very tight two legged affair.

I was really disappointed to go out of the cup as I did see this as a real opportunity to potentially advance quite far in the competition.

However, on the bright side, it means we can now fully concentrate on the league campaign and avoid a few fixture pile ups with a small squad.

All in all a fantastic first half to the season but it will be interesting to see if we can keep setting the pace throughout. We definitely need to add some goals to our game but I am going to keep faith in the current squad for now and avoid any major signings as we approach the mid-season transfer window.

Let’s go Chiba :GSCARF:

4 goals conceded in 19 games is quite an insane stat. But I would be worried about my attacking play if I was you, 16 goals is pretty underwhelming. I think you should buy or at least loan in a decent attacking player (a new partner for Oda or perhaps a new attacking mid) if you want to keep up the title chase.

Cheers mate and you’re right, a lot of our dropped points have been 0-0 draws and a lot of our wins have been by the odd goal. Definitely not sustainable over a season if the goals do dry up even further.

There’s a couple of players who I like the look of but our budget is right on the brink. I might sit tight until the end of the season and then get players who I truly want, but as you say the risk is that we fall slightly short. To be honest I probably had next season ear marked as a possible chance to challenge for the title, so anything this season would be a bonus.

Yeah I suspected your transfer budget might be the reason. Maybe you could try getting some (realistic) youth academy striker in. Either way it'll be very impressive if you manage to win this season. Good luck!
