The Master League adventures thread

@Kopite1990 When I would do a ML using the Japanese and Thai leagues, I always followed the league rules on foreign players too. It was a lot of fun.

Definitely adds to the fun mate, and the realism.

I have found that it prolongs some of my saves too as you have to build the squad more organically, rather than just filling it with superstars once your funds start to grow.

We reach the halfway point in season 2 of my JEF United Master League and we find ourselves in a fantastic position after a really good first half of the season:

We sit 4 points clear at the top of the table, a massive overachievement based on our squad and resources. We have remained hard to beat, with just 4 league goals conceded so far we have relied on our defensive ability as the basis of our success.

Goals have still been hard to come by but we have managed to grab a few 1-0 wins and snatch some late winners.

The form of last seasons top teams (Yokohama F. Marinos, Urawa Reds and Kawasaki) has been really poor, meaning we have been able to take advantage of a really open league this season.

Oda has been in fantastic form up front, the 20 year old has really stepped up this season and looks to be our key player as we head into the second half of the season.

Luongo and Kikuchi have been the pick of our new signings. Luongo has dominated several opponents from CM and Kikuchi has been a massive part of our defensive success at CB.

One of the main highlights of the season so far was a late 1-0 win against our Prefecture rivals, Kashiwa Reysol. Yajima came off the bench to tap home an 86th minute winner 🙌🏻

Unfortunately we crashed out of The Emperors Cup again in the second round. Kashima Antlers got the better of us in a very tight two legged affair.

I was really disappointed to go out of the cup as I did see this as a real opportunity to potentially advance quite far in the competition.

However, on the bright side, it means we can now fully concentrate on the league campaign and avoid a few fixture pile ups with a small squad.

All in all a fantastic first half to the season but it will be interesting to see if we can keep setting the pace throughout. We definitely need to add some goals to our game but I am going to keep faith in the current squad for now and avoid any major signings as we approach the mid-season transfer window.

Let’s go Chiba :GSCARF:

4 goals conceded in 19 games is quite an insane stat. But I would be worried about my attacking play if I was you, 16 goals is pretty underwhelming. I think you should buy or at least loan in a decent attacking player (a new partner for Oda or perhaps a new attacking mid) if you want to keep up the title chase.

Cheers mate and you’re right, a lot of our dropped points have been 0-0 draws and a lot of our wins have been by the odd goal. Definitely not sustainable over a season if the goals do dry up even further.

There’s a couple of players who I like the look of but our budget is right on the brink. I might sit tight until the end of the season and then get players who I truly want, but as you say the risk is that we fall slightly short. To be honest I probably had next season ear marked as a possible chance to challenge for the title, so anything this season would be a bonus.

Yeah I suspected your transfer budget might be the reason. Maybe you could try getting some (realistic) youth academy striker in. Either way it'll be very impressive if you manage to win this season. Good luck!

8 games left and the title race is hotting up as we approach the business end of the season:

I made the decision not to add any new signings during the mid-season transfer window in the hope that we could continue our good run of form from the first half of the season.

Goals have been much easier to come by and we have continued to perform pretty well defensively.

We held a 9 point lead at one point but recent defeats to Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Gamba Osaka have allowed Kawasaki Frontale to close the gap back to 4 points. They have been relentless during the second half of the season and they are the in form team in the league.

We still have some tricky fixtures remaining during the title run in, with games against Vissel Kobe, Nagoya and Shimizu S-Pulse still to come.

Our next match? A top of the table clash against second placed Kawasaki. A win would be massive and put us in a fantastic position with just 7 games remaining. A defeat would really crank up the pressure and see our lead cut to just one point.

Forza Chiba :GSCARF:

I thought I would do a little deep dive into our top of the table clash against Kawasaki Frontale.

There were no issues with form arrows or players being unavailable, as a result we were able to field our strongest team for this one:

IMG_4660.jpeg

The first half started quite slow. I think, subconsciously, I was a bit more mindful of making any mistakes. I second guessed every pass and was probably a bit too cautious to begin with. Kawasaki were resilient but after the first 30 minutes both sides had offered little to show for their respective league positions. We grew in confidence and then gave them a real hammering for the last 15 minutes, Luongo hit the post with a close range effort just before HT and we should have gone in 1 nil up.

IMG_4661.jpeg

We started the second half in a similar vein but just could not find a breakthrough. Kawasaki started to get a foothold in the game and created a few half chances. It looked like we might have missed our chance to score whilst we were on top.

Then, we managed to catch them on the break in the latter stages of the game. Suzuki picked up the ball just inside our own half and played a fantastic chipped through ball over to Wakatsuki who just managed to evade a last ditch challenge from Subotic. He was through, 1 on 1, and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

IMG_4662.jpeg

We managed to see out a few late Kawasaki attacks but overall we were largely comfortable. A massive win and we go 7 points clear in the league with just 7 games remaining 🙌🏻

My PES 6 Serie A Napoli Master League.

I started in Serie B. I created Napoli, Genoa, and Lecce. I added 4 Serie A teams and Juventus who were in Serie B that year. Juventus won Serie B and I came in second. I created Hamsik, Gargano, and Lavezzi with their PES 08 stats as free agents then I signed them for the 2007 season like in real life. I only sign 4 players a season and I want to keep the team 50% Italian. Other good players I have signed are Akinfeev, Aquilani, and Modric. I usually dont sign the PES original 17 year old rookie players but I signed Orellano because I didn't have a lot of money. I will sell him soon. Also a few good older Italian back up players.

In season 2, I did terrible. I came in 9th place. At one point I thought I could get relegated, I was doing so bad. I made it to the Semi finals of the Coppa Italia. For some season that means that I am in the Knock out stage of the UEFA Cup in season 3. I think Serie A has the best teams in the game. My Napoli team probably is the best squad of the 4 MLs I am doing right now in PES 6, but I am doing the worst.

In season 3, I am a quarter of a way through the season. I am in 4th place. I should be able to do well in the league because I am not in Europe till the end of the season. Lavezzi and Calaio currently have the most goals in Serie A this season.

So after our impressive win against Kawasaki we had 7 cup finals left to play in order to ensure that we would end the season as J. League champions.

Our fixture run in was pretty tough, with trips to the likes of Vissel Kobe, Shimizu S-Pulse and Nagoya chucked in amongst some other tricky fixtures.

In truth, we never looked back as we ended the season losing just 1 of those last 7 games to wrap up the title.

An absolutely fantastic season and massive overachievement given the overall quality in our squad.

Kakuchi, our new CB signing, was a standout player and crucial to our success as we conceded just 11 goals across the entire J. League season.

It was a fantastic debut season for Luongo too as he ran things from the middle of the park, often dictating games for us. Oda and Wakatsuki continue to develop and look exciting prospects moving forward. Oda finished up as our top scorer with 14 goals, not a bad return for a 20 year old playing his first full season.

A massive shoutout for Takahagi too - Our captain and veteran midfielder at 35. He scored some crucial goals along the way and was a key part of our success as he led the team to victory.

An amazing way to end season 2 and we have Asian Champions League football to look forward to next season.

Who knows how far we can go or what else we can achieve, but JEF United Chiba are definitely back on the Japanese footballing map 🙌🏻

Why did you pick JEF United Chiba? Who are your 5 foreigners for the new season?

Why did you pick JEF United Chiba? Who are your 5 foreigners for the new season?

No particular reason mate - I’ve wanted to do a J. League save for a while. I have always semi-followed Japanese football - I am not sure where you are based but we used to have a J. League highlights show here in the UK on Eurosport. It has stopped now but I was obsessed with it as a kid.

In terms of JEF United themselves, I always try and pick a team who have fallen on hard times but still have a great history. JEF United were one of the founding members of the J. League, the first Japanese club to win an Asian Continental competition and have been crowned champions of Japan on two occasions.

They are currently playing in J2 after relegation in 2009, so I thought that it might be a good story to try and revive them in my ML journey 👍🏻

I will put a season 3 intro post up shortly with a squad update etc.
