The Master League adventures thread

Hi mate

yeah not an ideal start, I think overall the level of finishing by the AI on the higher levels in PES2008 is far greater than in prev editions... what do u think?

Sereni has already been outstanding in both games and Grella and Corini (cant believe hes 37!!) have been really important players.

Doesnt get any easier.. the Turin Derby is up next :)

I sincerely hope you beat la juve...i quite like Torino...
I had Corini in my Palermo team in PES5, he was one of the best players in my team.
That Palermo ML was one of the best i've ever had...

Hi Gerd, Thanks my friend, it'll certainly be a tough ask.

He only joined Torino last summer didnt he from the Sicilians ? amazed that a player of his age is still going strong in the engine room.

Do you know how you can find out if he will be retiring at the end of the season or not?

Your last line " That Palermo ML was one of the best i've ever had..." made me realise in the Caste Di Sangro book they are actually propping up the foot of Serie B!

Off-topic: gerd, do you know Brussels was voted the most boring city in Europe. Is this a fact for you?

Brussels the most boring city in Europe ???
And Charleroi (according to some Dutch paper) the most ugly city of Europe...
Boy i live in special country...
People who say that Brussels is boring, don't know Brussels...anyway the cities to be in Belgium are Antwerp and (certainly) Gent...

Oh and on a positive not, "we" have the best rockfestival in the world for the 3td consecutive year....Rock Werchter...i don't know who makes these lists...

Hey Db, if i remember correctly, your Espanyol ML started in a similar fashion.

I'm pretty sure players in the past signalled they were going to retire at the halfway point in the season (that they would retire at the end). Also if you could only offer them a 1 year contract, it meant they were going to retire. However, now they'll just keep renewing a 1 year contract over and over for a few years, i have noticed.

The missus and I enjoyed a lovely lovely weekend in Brussels (+ Bruges) last year so I cant imagine why they'd say that. Ok its no Barcelona but still a perfect size to get around easily and food & drink (stoemp :DD ) to die for.

hello proff,

yeah think youre right, in fact most of my ML's begin badly and eventually settle down into a rhythm of rising and falling mediocrity :)

I love the challenge of it this year though (glad i ditched Venlo!) and am enjoying exploring more about Torino and their background. When that first goal comes i'll be like this.... x 10

SAISON 2010/2011

BORDEAUX ADD TO STRASBOURG WOES

54738_BORDEAUX_JUSSIE_300407.jpg

Jussie celebrates his goal

6ème Journée
Strasbourg 0
Bordeaux 1 Jussie 63'

The bottom two clubs met at the Stade de la Meinau last night, with both sides wanting to launch themselves out of the drop zone. The tight encounter was edged by Bordeaux, arguably the better side on the night, when Jussie broke the deadlock in the second half. Strasbourg looked toothless in their attempt to string together attacks. Simon Zenke came off the bench and looked lively, but the Nigerian could only find the upright. Yacine Abdessadki pounced on the rebound from a fine angle, but the captain also hit the upright, during what was quite clearly not going to be the home side's evening.
Strasbourg are now beginning to linger ominously at the foot of the table, with two points from six games.

Blimey Proff thats one of your worst starts ever isnt it??

I hope the Nutmeg stock doesnt start falling around Europe :)

How great would it be mate if say at the end of last season youd received a job offer (ala SWOS) as perhaps you were ready to move on to pastures new.

Indeed mate, it's my worst ever start to a season, that i can remember. To think, at the beginning of last season, i was playing European qualifiers and defending a league cup title. I don't know why have become so rubbish all of a sudden. Mind you, i'm not playing as often these days.

In an odd way, i'm kind of liking it, as it has added a new twist to this ML. Will i recover? will i go down? will i get the boot? The cup hasn't begun yet. Perhaps i will be able to challenge for honours in that again.

Quite a come down isn't it mate. I reckon you could be right on the playing less scenario though, maybe your reactions etc.. are not quite as sharp perhaps?

Come and join me, come and join me .... :)

A real relegation scrap certainly gets the pulses racing, how many have you scored in your 6 games? is that where the problem lies do you think?

Chaps is there anyway I can put this unbelievable Sereni double save somewhere ? (Playing PES2008 for PS2 on PS3)
Great result denirobob!

Obviously you created a virtual PS2 memory card on your PS3...so you should be saving the game just how you do on your PS2.

If what your saying is that you want to take a clip of the save, but you haven't got a video camera to do it, maybe you can send me the goal file and i'll upload the clip for you?

Well done on the derby won Db and nice report.

I scored 6 in 6 games, 4 of which came in the opening fixture. I just can't seem to hold on to a lead. It seems as soon as i score, the opposition just come back at me and score themselves.

LYON COMEBACK THWARTS RACING

LyonStrasbourg15.jpg

Govou grabbed the winner from the spot

7ème Journée
Strasbourg 1 Golan 15'
Lyon 2 Baros 19' Govou 42'(p)

Strasbourg saw their lead cut short by a Lyon side, who are yet to make waves in the league this season. The visitors are currently off the boil in the league standings, but they managed to secure three points in Strasbourg with relative ease.

STRASBOURG RELIEF WITH FIRST WIN

4004-james-fanchone-150-175.jpg

Fanchone got the first

8ème Journée
Auxerre 1 Chapi 41'
Strasbourg 2 Fanchone 38' Zenke 77'

Strasbourg finally notched up their first win of the season on day 8. James Fanchone grabbed the opener after clever work down the right flank, eventually forcing the ball in at the near post. Auxerre responded immediately with a goal from teenager Chapi. The shortest player on the field was left unmarked in the box, as he headed past Puydebois from close range. Simon Zenke eventually bagged the winner on 77 minutes, with a cool finish past the keeper.
Strasbourg remain bottom, on five points, however another win could lift them out of trouble, as they look to stay in touch.

Congratulations on your first victory my friend...this will be good for Strassbourg's moral...i hope you can win a few matches in a row..

Hello SB, cheers.

That would be really helpful if you wouldn't mind helping me out.....

Hi mate

sorry about the blatant lack of pronounciation. the font i use only seems to cater for full stops!
style over substance.. such is the designers dilemma.. :)

do you think that is the AI team suddenly getting a boost ? or again just the clinical nature of finishers in pes2008?

STRASBOURG'S NUTMEG RUNNING OUT OF TIME

h-3-1050074.jpg

Serge Gakpe and Rodrigo clash at the Stade Louis II

9ème Journée
Monaco 3 Koller 10' 26' Gakpe 91'
Strasbourg 1 Zenke 37'

Professor Nutmeg's three and a half year tenure at Strasbourg could be coming to an abrupt end, as the Alsace outfit registered another league defeat. The sky blues were beaten by AS Monaco on day 9 and rumours are abound that the boss has but a handful of games to secure his position. Jan Koller put the principality side two goals up, before Simon Zenke brought Strasbourg back into the game on 37 minutes. Strasbourg rallied in the second half and looked to draw level, but were thwarted by an in form Flavio Roma. Serge Gakpe put the result beyond doubt in injury time, as Strasbourg's urgency left them exposed at the back.

COUPE DE LA LIGUE (Round 1, First leg)
Strasbourg 2 Johansen 5' G.Pujol 57'
Saint-Etienne 2 M.Faye 11' 19'

This result sees Saint-Etienne put one foot in the next round of the league cup. However, Gregory Pujol's second half equaliser may yet prove invaluable for Strasbourg. If Professor Nutmeg's charges can turn around the result, it may just buy the manager some more time.

Could be, could be...

Some better news. I've handed my third choice keeper, Nicolas Cinalli, a run in the side. I bought him a season ago from De Graafschap. Anyway, three games, three clean sheets :w00t: That's not to say it's all his doing, although he peformed well against Lens. I'm very much picking my team on merit now. Oh and for these three games, i used the familiar European 4-5-1 (4-2-3-1) system.

Strasbourg 1 K.Cisse 91'
Lens 0

I love the CB overlap tactic. This was literally the last play of the game. Kalifa Cisse came steaming up from the back and was in the centre of the box, to smash the ball in from 6 yards, after being fed by Gregory Pujol.

Lorient 0
Strasbourg 0

I should have won this. Winger, Romain Gasmi, hit a terrific drive from distance. It dipped, had the keeper beaten but cracked off the crossbar.

Strabsourg 0
PSG 0

A fairly even game. We passed the ball around confidently. Dodgy finishing meant we couldn't seal the win.

It's been nice not to concede for a few games.

That's a name from the past! I remember playing Championship Manager 4 about five years ago and having Mr Cinalli at Serie C2 outfit Ragusa. He's gone up in the world since, it seems. I must have coached him well 8-)

I haven't started a Master League in PES2008 yet, I'm still in the throes of editing my option file.
