REGGINA EYE "IL PROFESSORE"

reggina.gif

Perennial Serie A strugglers, Reggina Calcio, have identified current Strasbourg manager Professor Nutmeg, as a possible future target. Nutmeg is currently in his fourth and final contract year in Alsace and as yet, hasn't penned an extension with the Ligue 1 outfit.

The boss is well known amongst Serie A, having successfully managed Udinese and Cagliari on previous occasions, winning the Uefa Champions League with the latter in PES4. The Amaranto have made unspectacular survival in the top flight their trademark, but installing Professor Nutmeg at the helm would demonstrate signs of intent from the Reggio Calabrian side.

Good choice Prof....one of the the ugly ducklings in Seria A...as a matter of fact, the seonc best possible choice...Sienna would have been even better...the team with the lowest budget in Serie A...

I think the Professor could do a fantastic job in Reggio di Calabria. I remember that team from "A season with Verona"...at the end of the season Hellas Verona have to play a sort of play-off match (or two: home and away)against Reggina...Hellas wins...

STRASBOURG BEGIN TO SEE THE LIGHT

180.gif

Strasbourg bow out of the league cup, but begin
moving to relative safety in the league.

League Cup (Round 1, 2nd leg)
Saint-Etienne 0
Strasbourg 0
(agg 2-2)

How this stayed 0-0 is beyond me. ASSE hit the post twice and Strasbourg hit the post once. Kantari missed a sitter in the box at the death for Strasbourg. A real cup tie feel.

13ème Journée
Strasbourg 3 Zenke 46' 49' Chansa 87'
FC Zurich 1 Kruska 57'

Finally, another victory and a reasonably comfortable one. A superb brace from Simon Zenke, was supplimented when Isaac Chansa came off the bench to seal the victory, three mintes from time.

14ème Journée
Le Mans 1 Gervinho 73'
Strasbourg 1 G.Pujol 1'

A dream start against the league leaders, but it was always going to be tough holding on to the lead for almost 90 minutes.

15ème Journée
Marseille 0
Strasbourg 0

An action-packed game which strangely ended goalless. Either side could have stolen it. This result won't help Marseille's poor season, as they sit in the bottom two.

16ème Journée
Saint-Etienne 1 Landrin 79'
Strasbourg 3 Abdessadki 9' 39'(p) 60'

Revenge for the opening day 5-4 defeat and the recent cup exit. Captain Yacine Abdessadki ran riot in the Geoffroy Guichard stadium. His first came from a free kick. Then, just before the break, he was brought down in the box and converted from the spot. Finally, his hat-trick goal was a lovely run and cut-in from the right flank, beating two players across and approaching the outide of the box and then firing from 18 yards out, on his left foot.

Strasbourg are now three points above the relegation zone in 13th place. Professor Nutmeg will be looking to build on recent results, in order to climb as high as possible. With only the league to concentrate on, sixth place and therefore a European qualifying spot, remains a possibility.

TRANSFER NEWS

During the mid-season transfer window, Strasbourg signed Mathias Ranegie from IFK Gothenburg. The deal saw out-of-favour striker Omer Golan head the opposite way. At 197cm tall, Ranegie will no doubt be used to add a physical presence to Racing's front line.

RACING RESURRECTED

180.gif

Strasbourg surge into the top half of the table,
as relegation fears look a thing of the past

Due to an impressive unbeaten league run, Racing Club de Strasbourg have climbed to seventh place in the Division 1 table. Racing are currently equal on points with Lyon, who occupy sixth place on goal difference. The Alsace outfit have not lost in thirteen games and included four consecutive wins in the process.

Professor Nutmeg appears to have settled with his successful 4-5-1 formation, which has seen Nigerian youngster Simon Zenke, blossom in the lone striker role. With eight games left, Strasbourg will be keen to push further, in an attempt to secure a top six finish and European football.

Last five results:

Anderlecht 1 Vagner Love 53'
Strasbourg 2 Zenke 35' Ranegie 92'

Strasbourg 1 Zenke 80'
Rennes 0

Strasbourg 1 Zenke 6'
Nancy 0

Bordeaux 1 Cavenaghi 80'
Strasbourg 2 Zenke 39' 77'

Lyon 1 Benzema 17'
Strasbourg 1 Zenke 26'

It looks like Zenke has been preforming well for you Professor Nutmeg. Five goals scored in five consecutive games!

Good luck with the rest of the eight games.

Hi mate. Indeed, he's just become the league's joint top goalscorer, with 12 goals so far. He's been quietly waiting in the reserves/youth set-up, over the past few seasons, with only a few appearances. He sort of reminds me of a poor man's Obafemi Martins, particulalrly in the way he came through at Inter.

I've been very pleased with my tactics and player selection of late. In the closing minutes against Anderlecht, i withdrew a DMF and threw on the giant Ranegie upfront, for a bit of presence in the box. Amazingly, the guy managed to bundle in the winner, deep in injury time.

THE FINAL CURTAIN?

180.gif

Strasbourg finish eighth in the league as questions
remain over Professor Nutmeg's future

Racing Club de Strasbourg finished the 2010/2011 season in eighth place. The Alsace outfit were one minute away from a seventh place finish, but for Djibril Cisse's 89th minute equaliser for Marseille on the final day's action. Seventh place may have seen Strasbourg grab the Uefa Cup spot, as both league cup finalists finished within the top six league places.

Nutmeg's future at the club remains unclear, as Strasbourg have not yet confirmed that he will be in charge next season. Uncertainty over his future could see interested parties approaching the manager, if talks stall in Alsace.

EMPOLI CHASING NUTMEG

empoli.gif

Reports emerging in Italy have claimed that Serie A club, Empoli FC, have entered the chase for the tacticians's services.

The Tuscan minnows are the second Italian side, along with Reggina Calcio, who are showing an interest in the Strasbourg manager.

The Azzurri were close to obtaining the manager's services in PES6, but narrowly missed out to Hertha Berlin.

Prof, off-topic, but i can't resist it anymore...who is your avatar ???

I know at my age, being a married man and father of two childeren, but of course it's purely platonic...

Without meaning to steal the Professor's thunder, that would be mademoiselle Mélissa Theuriau, gerd.

One wonders if, with the appearance of Mélissa coinciding with Monsieur Nutmeg's stint in France, this same news anchor will shortly be spotted browsing for rustic property in Tuscany... ;)

Tough break db...
I'm currently playing a PSP ML with Udinese...they have an enormous team...quite a lot of good forwards, but their team seems rather unbalanced to me...

Congratulations Db! :DUMMY:

Edit:

Db, i started an ML with Empoli. Funnily enough, the first match was against Torino and they beat me 1-0. Also they're currently top, after 3 games. Don't think it will last though.

So, i'm four games into my new ML with Empoli and i have lost twice and drawn twice.

Torino 1-0 Empoli
Empoli 1-1 Genoa
Roma 3-1 Empoli
Empoli 1-1 Atalanta

My attacking options are fairly thin (even if i like to play the 4-5-1) and like many new managers brought in to do a job, i'm already thinking about one or two faces i can bring in. Like my Strasbourg ML though, i'm going to keep it minimal.

Here are some potential targets i may choose from.

(Forwards)
Andrea Caracciolo (Brescia) - Would play the big fella upfront role and would possibly welcome a return to Serie A.
Lucas Valdermarin (AIK Solna) / Cesar Carignano (Colon de Santa Fe) - Reasonably cheap Argentinian strikers.
David Healy (Fulham/NI) - A transfer that might raise an eyebrow. Unwanted at Fulham. Could become a cult hero in Tuscany, were he to find his Euro qualifying form for the Azzurri.
Castello (ML veteran/legend) - Needs no introduction. Would surely answer the call.

(Misc)
Mathieu Valbuena (Marseille) - I like this chap. I wonder if he fancies his chances in Serie A.
Patricio Urrutia (ECU) - A midfielder with good passing ability. I like a South American or two. Cheap and skillful.
Rodrigo (Strasbourg) - Like many a manager, i could be tempted to raid my former club for a key player.
Edinho (Internacional) - An alternative defensive midfielder.
Nicolas Cinalli (De Graafschap) - With Daniel Bassi soon to retire. Davide Bassi will be the only keeper on the books. Experienced in the Italian lower leagues. Became my No.1 at Strasbourg, after signing from De Graafschap.

Of course, my scouts will still be out there in the meantime. ;))

Saudati celebrates his goal.

5a giornata:
Lazio 1 Ledesma 80'
Empoli 1 Saudati 38'

Empoli were denied their first victory of the season
by a late Cristian Ledesma strike in Rome.

Luca Saudati's messy goal line scramble had put the Azzurri ahead, late in the first half. The upset was almost assured, when in the second period, Saudati's header found the crossbar from Vannucchi's corner.

However, the Biancocelesti restored parity ten minutes from time, when Cristian Ledesma wasn't closed down in the box. Wanting to go for the win, Nutmeg then brought on Nicola Pozzi, who looked lively. His first effort flashed wide of Ballotta's post, but the forward had little time to make an impact.
Empoli remain bottom of the table on goal difference.

Thanks Professor.

i intend to indoctrinate the little fella in the beautiful game asap :)

Its almost certain not to last mate, what do you make of the empoli squad youve got to work with?

It didn't last. They're tumbling down....

Yeah, not bad. Distinctly mediocre. I like room for improvement though. It'll take a season to get to know my players better and to see who plays well where and who the key figures are. At the moment i see it as a team based around Vannucchi. He pulls the strings behind the lone striker and takes the FKs and corners etc.
I reckon i should let Giovinco go back to Juve after a season or two. Perhaps Marchisio too.

I'd like to get into Europe though, as i've put a lot of thought into which teams to include in the other leagues (a reason i wanted to start a new ML). I'm hoping it will make for more realistic European ties.

How about your squad Db? You have quite a few to choose from. Upfront too, Recoba, Ventola...How do you choose? Saudati is my main starting striker, while Pozzi and Volpato are my other two forward options.

VOLPATO RESCUES EMPOLI

Empoli 3 Saudati 37' Volpato 83' 86'
Parma 3 Corradi 6' 59' Reginaldo 28'

A late brace from substitute Rey Volapto rescued a point for Empoli, as the Azzurri looked seemingly dead and buried. Replacing a weary Luca Saudati for the final eleven minutes, Volpato was fed twice by Nicola Pozzi and showed composure and finesse in front of goal, as he grabbed his quick-fire brace.

MARCHISIO HITS MARK FOR AZZURRI

Palermo 0
Empoli 1 Marchisio 27'

Claudio Marchisio's stunning 22 yard strike was enough to seal Empoli's first win of the season. Both sides hit the woodwork on several occasions: Amauri, Busce and Vannucchi all denied, as the score belied the action at the stadio Renzo Barbera.

Hi mate

The squad is far too large and top heavy which is actually causing me a few issues as I clearly need the centre of defence to be bolstered. I also have an abundance of central and defensive midfielders.

Funnily enough Recoba has just been used as an impact sub so far with Ventola yet to feature at all and Malonga & Oguro havent even been on bench. Im using either Bjelanovic or Stellone in attack with Di Michele as the second striker floating behind him in a 4-4-2. I dont have any preference for a particular player yet from a goal getting point of view but will have to get the wage bill down and maybe reduce it to just 4 frontmen from 7.

Tradionally ive always favoured a big man/little man combo but a bit lik Man City this season nobody appears to want to grasp the nettle and cement a place upfront.

I have Inter up tonight so things dont get any easier...

Hi fellas,

I am finally getting the opportunity to get back to my ML after the birth of denirobob junior.

And I think I smell a relegation struggle...! :)
Congratulations mate! :applaud:

No wonder you've been away for a while. I was thinking maybe you lost your enthusiasm for PES, like me! :-ll

I guess your hands been full...good luck with the family. :TU:

Well, i've done away with organizing the other leagues by region, as this can flood the European qualifiers with too many teams, from too few countries. After all, i see them just as pools.

I've decided to drastically cut down on the "Uber teams" (eg Real Madrid Barcelona, Man Utd etc). I choose only two of these per league (i feel this will avoid Uefa cup final ties like Chelsea vs Real Madrid). These two will most likely finish first and second and therefore go straight into the Champions league (avoiding the qualifiers). From the Premiership, i have only included Man Utd and Liverpool. Rather than adding Chelsea or Arsenal, i have added Everton.

I've therefore now added more lower teams. Teams that wouldn't look out of place in the Uefa Cup or indeed overachieving in the CL.

So basically, a handful of the 'top top' clubs and then all the 'other' clubs (HJK, Sporting, Hammarby etc...) and a select few from the 'leagues' (Bordeaux, Heerenveen, Everton, Racing Santander etc...). I'm hoping this will make for Euro nirvana.

TORO TOO TOUGH FOR EMPOLI

Stellone celebrates his winner

TIM Cup (Round 1, 1st leg)
Torino 2 Barone 66' Stellone 81'
Empoli 1 Vannucchi 10'

Empoli face an uphill battle in the Coppa Italia second leg, as they look to overturn a 2-1 deficit, inflicted by Torino.

The azzurri began brightly in Turin, with Ighli Vannucchi finding the net within ten minutes of kick-off, following a probing start. As the game went on however, Empoli looked unresponsive and the visitors were unable to cause any further threat to the Granata's back four.

In the second half, Torino's confidence grew and they manged to pull one back through Simone Barone, on 66 minutes. Roberto Stellone then added a second, with less than ten minutes remaining, completing the home side's comeback, and helping the Granata take a 2-1 lead to Tuscany for the second leg.

Yeah, that's what I do and it sometimes work to great effect.

I'm going to look for my notepad and give you an example of how i sought out the other leagues in my ML.
