Hi Proff,

i reckon that's it mate - esp combined with the news that's just come in via Greece - Pachecho is 100% for Balague's boot now!

IRL - yes youre right, he can definetly look a little shaky at times, and perhaps this factor has persuaded the top clubs not to part with their cash.

Personally i'm immensely looking forward to this match, IMHO Sevilla is currently the most attractive team in Europe...

Sorry to continue the off topic, but it was a great game, particularly when Espanyol made it 2-2 in ET. It was a shame to see Tamudo and 'Little Buddha' go off and of course the penalties. I was going for Espanyol, but i wantd to see goals and an entertaining game.

Although i'm glad Sevilla won it, one has to feel sorry for Espanyol...of course the red card changed the game...before the red card Espanyol clearly was the better team...
I play a PSP ML with Sevilla and my starting eleven is completely different from the real one yesterday...i never play Marti (i was not impressed with him yesterday) instead i play Renato (who was very good yesterday). I play Jesus Navas and Duda as side midfielders and Escudé and Javi Navarro as central backs. As side backs i have Adriano and Daniel Alves (who made a mistake in Espoanyol's first goal).
All in all i was disappointed with Sevilla, Palop was their match winner (the assist for the first goal, that safe on Riera's shot in the second and of course the penalties).

Was Escude suspended for last nights game? I was expecting alot more from Dani Alves to be honest, though i thought de la Pena had a good game.
Anyhoo, im reasonbly new to ML thread, will have a crack at it later.
p.s. good to see Glasgow and Scotland putting on a great spectacle for Europe...yet again! :P

Since i do not know Spanish football, i must say i was positively surprised by the way Espanyol played...being a Sevilla "fan" (i'm a fan of every "litle" team who plays stunning football)i still enjoyed Espanyol a lot...
It would surprise if the CL final would be a better match to watch...

Gerd and others, i don't know if you read this chap's blog on that game, but he raised a few interesting points with which i have to agree, particularly the last two paragraphs.

On an ML note, i've had some more astounding games in my Hertha ML, including some great play and goals. Still going in 3 comps, League (3rd), Cup (QFs) and CL (group stages).

I must say that I enjoyed the UEFA Cup final too. It was good to see Espanyol equalise late on when they looked dead and buried.

Would of been nice to see them pull it off but it was'nt to be. I am looking forward to seeing Sevilla in the Champions League next season.

Interesting blog indeed...
I tend to agree with the man, but i've read the reactions in the blog and i must say that some people do have a point. There were apalling rascist reactions in the match against England...on the other hand you can't judge a country or football fans because of the reactions of a few idiots...
What is interesting in the blog aswell is the way those Spanish fans were welcomed in Glasgow...special menus, a paper with a Spanish part...i quite sure this also is a way to avoid trouble (but what a shame that the two big teams of that same city are such big rivals with all the bigotry that includes for some "fans").
And yes if Sevilla would have played Betis in Glasgow, things would certainly have been different...
Why is it that people aren't satisfied with loving one team without hating another...rivalries are good but hate is bad.

Way off-topic here, but who will care about that??? If so...sorry.

At one time, season nine was looking like it was going to be the end of the road :(. Frustrated by the previous season, I had taken a gamble on splashing out on two players and the club was left with very little cash remaining in the bank.

If you recall my last update, I'd been thinking about letting my star midfielder walk away when his contract ran out. I did so, and boy was he missed! #-o The first half of the season was then a disaster, it seemed that nothing the team did could earn a result in our favour. By the halfway point there was still about 3,500 points to find to avoid bankruptcy and I was not feeling optimistic at all.

Hmm, not looking good :-k

I went back to the tactics drawing board. Out went the 5-3-2 I'd been using for most of the time with Cádiz, in came a more secure 4-4-1-1 and a much more cautious philosophy. Right, back to basics. Men behind the ball, deny the space, then keep the ball when we have it. I tested a couple of players in new positions with some success and we looked like a much tighter unit again.

Fortunately it all came together. Throw in more than our fair share of luck - I lost count of the number of times the CPU struck the woodwork in the second half of the season :shock: - and we somehow made it to the end of the regular season with just enough points. Phew.

In fact, so much better was the form over the latter part of the season that the club even managed to finish out of the bottom two for the first time :p. A couple of victories in friendlies gave the bank balance a healthier look. Panic over, the struggle continues for at least another year...

Yes, that's the same Coro. A little past his prime and unwanted by Espanyol, but I was more than happy to take him.

Promotion won't be achieved in season ten - I'll take another 'top six' finish at this stage! I'm confident that promotion is possible at some point... it might just require a bit of patience ;)

I had a bunch of free time over the bank holiday weekend and managed to pile through season ten.

Urgh, a nightmare! Started so well by winning my first two games... and then failed to win another game all season :(. Goals were so hard to come by and whatever had been working in the second part of the previous season had just deserted us. The low point was a 6-0 hammering by Mallorca (admittedly inspired by the reincarnation of Zidane), my heaviest defeat in a decade with Cadiz.

The season ended with Cadiz back at the bottom of the table again - this looks painfully familiar - and, worse still, shy of our salary target. Thank god for friendlies. Speaking of Corominas, as one of the best players in the squad I've been disappointed with his contribution so far, but he stepped up big time in the first friendly. This was a real cup final, win or the club goes under, and he scored two and created the other in a 3-2 win. Why couldn't he do that in the season?? :D

Season eleven begins with about 450 points in the bank, about 5,000 more prize money required to cover the wages. The bad news continued in the transfer market, where no free agents were willing to sign for Cadiz (I can't blame them) and we lost two players to retirement. Actually, with the squad slowly getting smaller as players age and hang up their boots, if we don't start finding money for new blood over the next few summers (assuming I make it that far) then at this rate we'll be in real danger of falling below the minimum sixteen players limit soon.

I've been wrestling with this for an ML decade now, I thought it was supposed to be getting easier by this point? :D

Well guys I dumped my ML with Watford because it was just ridiculously easy. I Given up with the ML really, its not just the difficulty, its the actual league setup which is pants and eventually bores me after a couple of seasons.

Currently doing one with Athletico Bilbao and after finishing 5th in my first season, I'm now Second in my second season, 10 points behind runaway leaders Barcelona. Slowly heading out of the CL though, failure to win at Anfield and that will be confirmed. Will also miss out on the Uefa Cup if Liverpool hold onto Third place.

nerf, I admire your loyalty to stay at Cadiz for that long in such dire straights!

I may try my hand at a Coca Cola Championship ML, when Titch releases his updated file.

Anyone find how a striker for example can have an awesome season and then loose his abillity overnight in the second season. James Beattie syndrome?

Llorente scored 30 goals in that first season, which did suprise me. He is strong and can knock balls down, isn't the best finisher in the world, and doesn't have the best heading technique in the world, but he just managed to get in the right positions. Half Way through the season and three competions, he has about 10, if you include the CL qualifiers.

Frau and Balaban were brought in to replace the ageing Urzaiz and they covered the shortage, but maybe they have taken away the responsibility that fell on Llorente shoulders. I'm really torn between playing FM2007 or PES, on one hand I want the media/player interaction, tactics etc but I also want to play the game. Fifa has a great career mode, but the gameplay gets tiresome after a few days, let alone seasons.

Heres hoping the next instalment of PES brings in many improvements that ML fans really have been crying for.

Interesting article Db. I think a lot more kids would do that nowadays, but for someone giving them guidance.

The good news is i finally won some silverware with Hertha :) The Division 1 Cup!!!

I defeated Leverkusen, Stuttgart, Bayern Munich en route and then Ajax 2-1 in the final. The semi against Bayern was sweet though. I was losing 2-0 in Munich in the first leg, but for a late, priceless away goal from Lakic. I was back in the tie. All i needed was a solid 1-0 at home in the Olympiastadion. Behold! Gimenez's strike made it 1-0 and then i 'parked the bus' :D A few scares, but i got away with it.

I loved that article Db...it reminds me of a couple of players in Belgium who were seen as huge talents when young: Goossens and Pirelli. Goossens was soon transferred to Anderlecht but never made it...he played for lesser and lesser clubs and ended up in jail...
Franco Pirelli was an even bigger talent who ended up playing a Belgian version of what is now called Futsal...i used to be pretty good at it and played in second division...one day we played against Pirelli's first division club in the cup....jeeeesus...i've never played against a better football player, the guy had fabulous technique...but in that match he got a red card which is typical for that kind of player...
Young kids who have that much talent should have somebody to give them guidance...Anderlecht did that with Kompany (succeeded) and Vanden Borre (it did not succeed...the day i became 18, he bought the biggest Mercedes...).

As for ML...

I'm playing a (PSP) Master League with Lens and i'm thoroughly enjoying it...i'm currently third in division three...behind Torino and Boca Juniors...twxo draws and two wins...Lens has a couple of very good players...

Gerd, that an interesting story, i was half hoping you were going to say you nutmegged him. :)

I once played in a six a side tournament for my team Woodley Saints against Deon Burton, who was absolute class and in our team was a lad called Marcus Ricardson - he was pretty rubbish but our main striker. Marcus is now professional at Lincoln or Cambridge I think. Madness gone mad!

I shiver even thinking of having nutmegged Pirelli..i did nutmeg quite a few players, but not him...he was from outer space...in a league of his own...except for his stupid behavior...in the end we nearly won that match after he was sent off...such a waste of talent...

I was a useless football player, but quite a good futsal player (we called it mini voetbal and if i'm not mistaken the mini voetbal goals are smaller than the futsal ones...).

You'd probably be good at 5/6-a-side football then Gerd? I play in an FA recognised 6-a-side league once a week. I'm the keeper :) This weekend however, i'm playing in an Italy vs. Japan game (11-a-side). I'll be in the Azzurri team for those who weren't sure. My last game with these guys was vs. 'The Rest of the World' and we won 3-0 (clean sheet) :)

Not a very glamorous position to play in, but someone has to play there...unlucky it was you mate!

BTW where is this Italy vs. Japan game played, in London?
