The Master League adventures thread

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

hi m8,

i saw the goals but not live, quite a suprising result wasnt it.

yeah i noticed that, but didnt see it. Eurosport seems to have far too much US sports coverage for my liking which is all fine & dandy but not exactly in keeping which it's supposed remit.

what ever happened to their French cup coverage eh ??!

db

ps - gerd, i have updated your ML page.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

hello proff,

Nice to see you enjoying a ML at the top end of the table - an added bonus that you can use the Olympic stadium too no doubt.

db

Indeed, it's rare to be up there. My best finish in recent PES' has been in the 4-7 slots. It's such a bonus not to have the Euro qualifiers to go through too (if i claim at least 2nd place). I'm almost too scared to play the remaining 2 fixtures  It hasn't been this exciting since winning the Champions League final with Cagliari on PES4.
And yes, i do like having the proper home stadium.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Sad news to report lads :( It went pear-shaped. The worst that could have happened, happened.

Bayern took the title in the penultimate fixture, as i was defeated at home by Fenerbahce 2-0.

Then, in the final fixture against Bayern, which was supposed to be the big showdown (in my script) my 1-0 lead was cancelled 6 minutes from time by Makaay. The draw meant Ajax, who won their last fixture, leapfrogged me by one point to secure second place. :( :(

This now means i have those gruelling Euro qualifiers to come.

Penultimate day standings:

Bayern Munich 55
Hertha Berlin 51
Ajax 50

Final Standings:

Bayern Munich 56
Ajax 53
Hertha Berlin 52

:( :( :(

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Man unlucky, 1 point. It's times like these that you get the feeling that the A.I does this kind of thing on purpose just to spite you.

Oh well, there is always next season. ;)

I was getting that feeling when all my shots were pinging off the frame of the goal against Fenerbahce :eh:

I'd quite like to win something in the ML before PES7

I'd quite like to win something in the ML before PES7

So do i my friend...i came close with Atalanta: a cup final loss against Roma and a CL semi-final loss against Barcelona...but nevertheless: no cigar.
Now i'm in my second season with Reading and doing very good (3th) but i'm pretty this is not enough to win silverware.
If i still have time i will play another Ml with a better team than is usual for us: Sevilla...perhaps this wil help...it's since the treble in PES4 that i've won a championship (in division 1) or a CL...

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

i've never won anything ever... sniff. well not since i was 10 and claimed a jar of grapefruit marmalade in a school tombola :(

harsh luck Proff.

Yeah, i think Eurosport should setup a base for their channel to show obscure football, like maybe the Russian, Ukraine or some of the Scandinavian league...there is a little gap in the market, since there are no channels in the UK that broadcast this.

I think the French cup coverage is been taken by Sentana sports...thats probably the channel to have for all the top European football leagues.

I'd quite like to win something in the ML before PES7
PS2 or PS3?

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

One word of advice from somebody who already has a PS3: be patient and wait...i have two very good games: Motorstorm and NBA 2K7 but they will gather dust om the shelves if the first half decent football game is available...

Can't get online with the damn thing...maybe it's because i'm too stupid but i'm not sure...it sure isn't simple. If you like other games than PES/WE i think at the moment XBOX 360 is the better choice...

So just be patient and wiat what the future brings...

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Indeed i am. Motorstorm looks pretty entertaining, but i only really play PES and when they come out, GTA, both of which are scheduled for the end of this year, so i'll wait until then.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

The draw for the European qualifiers has been announced and Hertha Berlin have ended up in Group B, with Spanish, Italian and French opposition.

Group B

Hertha Berlin
Udinese
PSG
Valencia

Having a look around the other groups, Group A looks a tough one:

Group A

Galatasaray
Roma
Liverpool
Hamburg

While in Group D, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid look favourites to progress.

Group D

Arsenal
Porto
Atletico Madrid
Bordeaux

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Nice to see that you got a mixed group Prof.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

suprise to see them all mixed :|

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

@Prof: Hard luck! :( Hope you have better in the qualifiers.

@db: I hope Acasiete has a good leap on him - the first thing I always look for in my centre-backs is aerial ability. At the moment I'm having a hard time coming up against Mallorca when they have both Tristan and Maxi Lopez on the pitch at the same time, they eat up my defenders on crosses :(. Perhaps you could pair him with Christopher Samba :)

Here's a bit of an update on my ML, since it has been a while. I've simply been too addicted to playing the damn thing to post about it.

I can declare the experiment a success! It has turned out to be exactly the challenge I was after. Each match is a battle, each season is a struggle to pay the wages, but so far I'm surviving and slowly getting better.

Starting Points: 1500

SEASON 1
League position: 8th (2pts) :D

Points remaining: 150

SEASON 2
League position: 8th (9pts)

IN: Vitolo, Spanish midfielder, free agent.

Points remaining: 604

SEASON 3
League position: 8th (10pts)

IN: Pena, Spanish fullback, free agent.

Points remaining: 1173

SEASON 4
League position: 7th (15pts)

IN: Navarro, Spanish striker, free agent.
IN: Tiago, Brazilian striker, 2275.

Points remaining: 571

SEASON 5
League position: 8th (10pts)

Points remaining: 1842

SEASON 6
League position: 7th (12pts)

IN: Notario, Spanish goalkeeper, free agent.
IN: Serrano, Spanish midfielder, 3000.

Points remaining: 430

I think the key thing was taking the gamble on signing Tiago at the end of season four. It left me with only 571 in the bank, but in combination with Navarro I now had a remotely competent strike-force and that was always going to be a huge boost in the task of finding the net. They didn't settle in straight away, but really came good in season six when Navarro finished as the Segunda Division's top scorer and Tiago as the leading assist man, which brought in some very welcome extra bonus points.

Vitolo was an important signing too. At the time, he was a cheap, average, dimunitive midfielder with no club, who I only signed because he was the cheapest free agent available and I didn't have high expectations. He's since improved in leaps and bounds, a real bundle of energy in the middle of the park and a driving force on a very pedestrian team. He's become far too good for Cádiz, really. I've (sort of) been hoping a CPU team would bid but none has arrived. He's got two years left on his contract. When it runs out I'll have a decision to make whether to selfishly keep him or let him find a more appropriate stage, because he's just so far ahead of his current teammates statistically.

It's all very nice bringing in new and better players, but this is also reflected in the squad's overall salary which has now risen from 3193 to 4925, so each year the bar is raised slightly higher.

With three games to go in season seven, Cádiz stand 5th in the table and only 215 points away from matching this year's salary target, so barring a disaster this ML will reach an eighth season minimum.

Great fun, highly recommended for those with patience, and not for the easily frustrated! :). Don't forget that if anyone wants to try it themselves, my option file is still HERE and it should simply be a case of using the PESFAN Editor to import the Default ML players across to your own option file. Just remember to insure your control pads and pets beforehand.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

It really helps having a half decent strike pairing upfront doesn't it nerf. I always bring in attack minded players first, when playing with the default crew.

Talking about frustration, after my high flying previous season, the next season's opening game was against newly promoted Rosenborg who decided to spank me 4-0. Even their left back was getting in on the goal scoring action. It was one of those games where i felt i had no control whatsoever. Mind you, i felt better when i saw irl Werder Bremen thrashing Hertha in Berlin the other day..

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Rosenborg are a good team in PES...
As a matter of fact, the most enjoyable ML are often those with other teams than the best teams.
In PES5 i played a ML with Standard in a ML with Dutch, Belgian, Scandinavian, Ukrainian,Turkish teams and Sparta Praha...i found out that it was a very close league...every team was capable of winning against any other team...there rarely was a favourite and the league was a thriller until the end...
I hope that PES7 will have more teams from litle leagues like Portugal, Scotland, Belgium (of course) and the Scandinavian leagues...

nerf, i'm still fascinated by your ML...i think it's way too difficult for me..i haven't played with the default crew for quite a while...(not since PES4 i think). Would love to play a ML with my favourite team Brussels (relegation battlers in the Belgian Jupiler League..i'm in a jubilant mood because they are staying up an in their two last matches they can decide the championship...they play against the only two contenders for the title: Anderlecht and Racing Genk...to make it more beautiful Anderlecht-Brussels is the (modest) equivalent of Arsenal-Spurs...i hope Racing Genk become champion (but i know better).

Hi nerf,

very pleased to read hat you are still enjoying yourself. I could never handle that much frustration, i'm bad enough (in every sense) at the moment and your patience must be considerably better than mine and many of the chaps at evo-web.

Acasiete is very much in the mould of Cordoba, at least that's the theory. The move hasn't exactly gone down with the good citizens of Catalunya mind... more on that tomorrow...

-

Gerd - i too would love to see Genk take the title although not as much as you would natrually. I am hoping Club Brugge or Anderlecht have brought their new kits out by next month as i'd very much like to get one - don't suppose you've got an info on next seasons strips have you ?

-

Proff, your group looks toughish but i think you'll get through in 2nd (prob behind Valencia). If you finish 3rd or 4th do u go into the Masters Cup ?

cheers chaps

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

db

I will check this out...if they have the new kits, i will pm you...

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Hi Db,
3rd or 4th = eliminated at that stage. It's only once you go into the 1st round proper, that you drop into the Master's Cup (Uefa Cup) when finishing 3rd/4th. I'd really like the developers to sort out a decent format.

TAMUDO TAKES ON THE DOOMSAYERS

tamtalks.jpg

With just hours remaining before the start of the 2008/2009 season, RCD Espanyol have been engaging in a last minute PR exercise to try and control much of the negative publicity that has been gathering pace during the summer break.

Two underwhelming signings, a uncommunicative coach and a series of disappointing friendlies have all contributed to a sense of foreboding about the up coming campaign amid rumours that Jaime Pacheco has 'lost the dressing room'. It was left to the club captain and top scorer Raul Tamudo to put a positive spin on events, when he met a group of the club's young fans in Terrassa on the outskirts of the city.

"Mira" he said "We finished 10th last season, compared to 14th the year before so nobody can say we are not improving. I appreciate many people, particularly those in the media would like us to have been busier in the transfer window, but essentially we have a good group of lads here and certainly have it within ourselves to compete for honours".

Whilst the skipper's optimism is admirable, the notable fact that he praised his team mates whilst reserving no such platitudes for his manager speaks volumes. Ultimately results will decide whether the Portuguese continues his tenure or not, but with the fans already on the board's back it would only take a slow start in the league for Balague to seek out his 3rd appointment in as many seasons.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Nerf, SB, Gerd, DB, and all the rest of you old friends, (not gonna name everyone, one by one or it'll take forever), good to see y'all again. :salute:

Long time no talk. ;)

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

I've had a good run of games recently, coming from behind on a couple of occasions, both in the league cup and the league. Scored a couple of great looking goals too. One in the league cup with a young squad member, C. Müller, a lovely first time, placed shot from about 30 yards, with a bit of curl. The keeper was badly placed and obviously wasn't expecting it. THe other was with Bastürk. I love it when my bit part players start, or come on and do well. It makes you want to give them more of a run.

I've also now qualified for the CL proper. I came second in my qualifying group, below Valencia. My Hertha Berlin side have now been drawn in a group with Man Utd, Ajax and Fiorentina, so it's a tough one.

In the league, well it still early days, but i'm 6th, six points from the top. I'm at the beginning of the second calendar line, not yet halfway.
