The Master League adventures thread

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Since this thread is rather calm the last weeks, i want to take a litle side-step and make a sub-thread in the thread (yes, i know it sounds surrealistic, but hey i'm Belgian we invented surrealism...).

Since this is a thread with ML freaks (admit it, we are freaks...) i thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to look bad and tell something about our best ML memories...the 3 (or more) most memorable matches you played in any ML...Maybe Db could use this even for his site (but of course that's entirely up to him).

My 3 most memorable matches:

AJ Auxerre - Real Madrid 6-1
This one was the second leg of a CL semi-final. I played with Auxerre and i had lost the first leg in Madrid 2-1 after having led the game with 0-1 for most of the match. Late in the match Madrid "stole" 2 goals but i had the impression that Auxerre had totally dominated the match.
In the second leg Madrid scored a goal on a counter at the end of the first half...0-1.
I decided to play all attack in the second half and scored immediately after the kick-off : an Espinas header after a corner. Then i played my most perfect half ever...wave after wave flooded the Madrid box and they barely crossed the mid-line. Espinas scored a second goal and my team with players like D'Allesandro, Cissé, Maldonado, Diouf, Meghni and my favourite Turkish forward ...(i forgot his name, but he played in japan and for Hertha Berlin last season, he's a girl's favourite with his pop star looks). End result: 6-1.

AC Milan - AJ Auxerre 3-4
Same ML, same CL campaign...but this one was in the final.
A real Roy of the Rovers scenario... After a couple of minutes my left backn Alan Hejduk was sent off. Despite that sending off Auxerre took the lead: 1-0. Milan equalised and Auxerre once again took the lead: 2-1 and afterwards 3-1.
In the second half Auxerre was clearly exhausted and Milan dominated, they scored 2 goals in the second half and i was preparing for extra-times when my all time favourite PES player Andres D'Allessandro scored with a fantastic lob...one of the best goals i ever scored...if only i would have put that one on a memory card...the winning goal came in injury time and it was an immense satisfaction.

Wolfsburg - Bayer Leverkusen 2-2
This one was a bit of an anti-climax after a fantastic season in my most enjouyable ML campaign ever (my daughter who was 4or 5 years old at the time, took my memory card and played with it in her bad...so i never was able to conclude this one when i was playing in the CL the season after this match...)
This was my first season with Wolfsburg and i had started in division one (PES4).
Wolfsburg immediately played a very good season and it soon became clear that the title race would be a contect between Bayern Munchen and underdogs Wolfsburg (something i really love). Both teams alternated at the top of the table, but Wolfsburg dropped a couple of points against teams like Mainz and Nurenberg. It seemed that all was lost, but Wolfsburg managed to beat Bayern (i don't remenber the score) and won all the matches after that one where Bayern dropped points...I particularly remember a match in Bremen where Wolfsburg really thrashed Bremen. Both teams had equal points before the ultimate match of the season which was a difficult match against Leverkusen. Leverkusen where the better team throughout the match and Wolfsburg were rather lucky to obtain an undeserved draw..to my astonishment the players started to celebrate at the end of the match...it turned out that Bayern lost their last match against a team that were relegated (Hansa Rostock or Bochum, something like that).
In that team i had D'Allessandro (him again), Martin Petrov (another of my all-time favourites), Klimowicz, Menseguez, Da Marcus Beasley...

PS: IRL i never ever have seen neither D'Allessandro nor Martin Petrov...not even on television....strange isn't it????

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Cheers, Prof. No, I didn't really spare a thought to a star player, they all needed to be as rubbish as each other! Mind you, now that I've eventually signed a player on a free transfer you can really notice the difference. He's pretty average by normal standards but is clearly head and shoulders above his bumbling teammates (not literally, he's 170cm!).

And you're right, it is a great feeling when you eventually score and finally claim a win. That's what this ML was built around, I wanted to get back to that challenge of overcoming adversity rather than just expecting to dominate and win.

Thanks Psymon, best of luck with Recre.

I'm pleased to report that things are going well, a third season survived. Starting from 650 points, Cádiz managed to accrue enough funds to pay another season's wages and come out with about 1000/1100 left over (salaries target is now about 4000 I think), so finances are still a bit hand-to-mouth but are at least improving in prospect each year.

This third season was about perfecting the art of the 0-0 draw. Although goals dried up and not even a single league victory was managed all season (one in a friendly), a tightening of the defence resulted in a large number of draws and fewer defeats. In fact it was almost enough to finish 7th, where Cádiz had remained for most of the campaign, until a loss in the last couple of weeks to our rivals at the bottom meant that we were leap-frogged and consigned to finishing at the foot of the table for a third time. The only way is up ;)

The precious extra funds from those valuable draws enabled the signing of another Spanish free agent, a 32 year old fullback released by fellow strugglers Murcia. I had been hoping for a striker but none were available, I had to take what there was, picking up the un-wanted scraps from teams near us in the table! At least that takes the number of non-numpties to two.

Season four has started quite well and I'm pretty confident that it will not only be survived but could be a first real step forward. The aim is to not finish bottom! We'll see ;)

If I may throw in a tiny little tactical tip that I'm having some (relative) success with... if you play with a two-CF partnership, have you ever tried setting one or both of your strikers to LW or RW? I don't mean physically moving their positions, just leave them in the centre as default and just change the role. I find that they'll pull out wide quite nicely while you're building up and then still manage to get into the box if a cross comes in from the opposite side. Worth experimenting with.

Hey nerf,

First of all…

well done on keeping your team afloat for a third season!

Second…

That tactical use of the two CF sounds interesting…I’ve done something similar to that. What I do is put two CF upfront, spilt them apart outside the corner area and give both of them a low defense. What happens when I do that is they both split up to the wings and sometimes draw the two CB towards them which creates space in the middle for my AMF (who I give a forward and a low defense) to run into the penalty area to score from a resulting pass in the middle…..I can also get enough space to take on the defender and run towards goal for a one on one with the GK.

This is how the front of the formation looks like:

frontlinews6.png

When I switch my players to play like this, I think it seem like the CB are marking you in the game, with the way they seem to gravitate to you. It gives enough space and time for the AMF to run into.

Has anyone tried this?

Interesting post there gerd.

I believe the player you were talking about is Ilhan Mansiz who had quite a descent world cup (2002)...i remember him back flicking the ball over players heads!

He was quite average on PES3, but the times i played with him he was quite good (like a lot of these modest players on PES3).

Anyways i'll write down my three best matches/moments, when i remember them...

Have a nice day.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

It was Ilhan Mansiz Stringer Bell

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

I like the movie with Ilhan playing beach soccer...the girl with the white clothes would be a welcome addition to all my Ml teams...
Does Mansiz still play??? If so for what team????

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Royals very quiet on transfer front despite CL' opportunities...

Players out:
none

Players in:
Matthew Taylor (Portsmouth) WB
Marlon King (Watford) CF

His currently playing for Ankaragücü in the Turkish league.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Hey Stringer, remember i reported having Paul Robinson of Spurs do that in a European tie. It was near the end of the game and they were leading on aggregate too.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Yeah mate i remember you tell me that, thus the reason why i posted it.

I's weird because it was near the end of the first half and the goalkeeper was waisting time...

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Bit quiet in here :-k

I haven't played much ML of late, for one reason or another. However, recently i started a new ML, going back to a club where i had one of my most successful and enjoyable campaigns in PES3 - Hertha Berlin. I've created a 'Zentral-Ost Liga' with predominantly German teams, but also Dutch, Czech, Turkish and assorted easten European teams to fill the two divisions.

I'm beginning to think Hertha is my PES team, as i'm faring well at the moment (like old times).

hertha_bayern_200_01.jpg

I had a very exciting clash against leaders Bayern Munich in my most recent league game. I was placed 5th, about 8 points off Bayern and i managed a terrific 2-1 home win. I took the lead midway through the first half with Pantelic, but it looked as if the Bavarians would snatch a point, when Makaay's header drew the visitors level on 83 minutes. Much to my joy, Pantelic managed a sweet volley on 87 minutes (cue me running around the living room) after being fed by fresh-legged substitute Ellery Cairo.

I'm also in the QFs of the Cup, currently 1-1 agg against PSV, with the home leg to come soon.

I have a dilemma though. I've hit the half stage negotiation period and RC Lens have offered good money for Neuendorf. They are technically higher than me in the club rankings, only slightly - but it's early days. He's an important squad player for me, but i'm not sure whether to let him go or not.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

If they are only slightly higher than you then it would'nt be that unrealistic to keep him. It's not as if Hertha are a small club is it. :p

Then again it all depends on how much debt you are in, if any. Perhaps you could use the money to streghthen the squad more. It all comes down to how much you value Neuendorf. No pressure Prof.

By the way, how did your Mallorca ML end up. Any trophies?

You need to tell me about this old Hertha Berlin ML you keep banging on about!

I haven't played much ML since my Sparta Rotterdam one...I have to say this version of the game hasn't given that much enthusiasm to go back and play the ML like the previous series. Probably cause the ML just feels like the same old crap!

But I might start a ML again soon just for old times sake and see how it goes, but i'm running out of ideas on how to play the game with the crappy league structure.

Anyways hope you continue enjoying your ML.

Peace.

Tell me about it stringer. Konami's last improvement to the Master League was on PES4 I believe.

Most changes needed are simple things like real money, option to change the amout of teams for your league, example, Premier league 20 teams, Bundesliga 18 teams, and to let you know why transfers fall through etc.

I just pray that they change the format on PES7. If they don't, then I think us lot are gonna have to pay Seabass and co a little visit.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

I agree. I wish Nokami would sort out the ML. It really hasn't changed all that much since its beginnings, format wise. While some games/seasons can be fun, it eventually becomes the same old same old - almost half a league qualifying for Europe, silly fixture timetables etc.
For a while i played exhibition matches and enjoyed those as one offs.

SB, it was just an enjoyable and successful ML for me. I had a cool squad with players that really worked for me - no real big name players. Polish striker Wichniarek (then, not particularly well known) was a bit of a goal machine for me.
I remember also having a young Egyptian midfielder called Mohamed Gouda (who only appeared in that one PES) who was my reserve AMF/cup player. I think he he had speed in the low 70s and that was his best stat (no player development back then), but he played remarkably well under my control. He became a bit of a cult figure for me at the time. I mentioned him a lot in the thread back then.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Indeed.

During PES3, i trawled the lesser teams for such players, as it was too easy with big stat players. It wouldn't be the same if he reappeared in a future PES though.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Still playing my Reading ML now and then...that's mainly because i have a PS3...i quite like Motorstorm (difficult for me, but i'm a lousy gamer) and i have NBA 2K7 since a couple of days.

Konami should take that game as an example to improve the ML...NBA 2K7 has countless litle things that make the game thoroughly enjoyable and realistic...i know the NBA is more compact than international football but still...

I hope the PS3 version will be a major improvement for the ML, if not i would be disappointed after a while...because with the benefit of hindsight PES6 is disappointing...i guess it's the same for the regulars in this threas (my favourite one)...this thread is very quiet...

PS: Prof, my testosteron wonders who your avatar is...is it that model girlfriend of Pete Docherty????My testotesron likes her...

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

I agree gerd. EA always seem to nail career mode for all their sports games, NBA, NFL, and even FIFA.

I also agree that PES6 is largly disapointing due to the ML, I barely play it now either. If any one is wondering I won the League with Forest. Did the double, great way to end it.

p.s I don't think that is Kate Moss in Proff's avatar is it?

LOL!
It's Ali Larter. She's currently in "Heroes" a sort of 'X-Men' meets 'Lost' serial on tv.
I haven't got round to watching that show, i'll probably wait and get the first series on DVD (the one there doing now is the first series right?).

I thought the lady on your aviator was Seinna Miller.

Yeah SB, it's the first series. You get some nice scenes with her in the first episode :) You'd have to watch your testosterone levels gerd ;)

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

It's a bit of a let down finishing in mid-table obscurity DB isn't it. Only the same fixtures to look forward to the following season and maybe renewed hope for the cup.

I have to say, i'm having the most amazing ML season at the moment. I'm playing lovely football and as an indicator of how well my season is going, i finally capitalised from one of those quick free kicks. A lovely goal it was too. The ball was placed down on the left channel, about 35 yards out and immediately passed diagonally to the centre to Bastürk, about 28 yards out. He took a couple of paces and then slammed the ball from about 25 yards across the goal, beating keeper Butt, who quite frankly had no chance, as both he and his team were out of position.

What's more exciting is the finish to this season. I'm currently second, one point behind Bayern Munich and there are two games left. The last game is against Bayern Munich!!!

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

hello proff,

yeah it is mate, the team is still consistently inconsistent and unless that changes, I can't see any silverware on the horizon. there is always next season though and I've got to be honest I think Balague's patience with Jamie Pachecho is weraing a bit thin.

-

Nice to see you enjoying a ML at the top end of the table - an added bonus that you can use the Olympic stadium too no doubt.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Hey, denirobob did you watch Espanyol thump Bremen 3-0? I saw it on Friday night on Eurosport.

Hopefully they should get through with the three goal advantage, but you never Bremen can get four goals.

Also do you lot know they do J-League football on Eurosport? I saw it on the TV listing last Saturday at 8pm...i missed it though, after going to sleep that evening. It was on for an hour.
