Db, your predicament reminds me of Espanyol's real life relegation struggle of a few seasons back (03/04) when they narrowly stayed up. The following season they qualified for Europe too. Perhaps they need a kick up the Barce ;)

Gerd, Lescott came from Wolves in the summer and has become a regular CB for Everton. He's done well and may get an England call up at some point (if the regulars are injured, or in a friendly)

Thanks Prof...well he had to be good if he was mentioned concerning Real Madrid...maybe at the moment Everton is the better of both teams (but i'm biased, i don't like Real Madrid at all and that despite the fact that my all-time favourite player played for them: Fernando Redondo).

I love reading about players who play pro evo. i'm sure i read something about Henry playing with Saudi Arabia as it was such a test.

He said it in the interview on the official playstation magazine back in the PES4 days.

He also said he played the old Japaneses version of the games when he was in France.

It's been a while since i said anything about my ML, so i'm going to do a short report on how i've been doing because it been fun! I've really got the balance right with my team and i'm loving it! I'm currently on my 4th season Sparta so i'll updating you lot with my ML real soon.

Is Lescott a cousin of Angola's full back in the last WC...they sure as hell both have funny haircuts...

Concerning Henry, i've seen a video where you see him playing ML with the default crew...he claimed that he always plyed with them and this without doing a single transfer...

Chelsea seem to have quite a few PES addicts (Terry, Wright-Philips, Joe Cole,...). They regularly do tournaments as a form of team bonding and even the special one himself, Mourinho plays with them..
It seems that one of Mourinho's Portugese assistants is a Football Manager freak...

hello mate

thanks. oh it's gotta be clear headed, focused and with sweat dripping from my palms all over the joypad!

Actually bar playing friendly or Non-ML games with Radio 5's commentary on, as soon as it gets down to the serious stuff I can't have any distractions.

I once had a bit of a domestic incident with the very soon to be Mrs denirobob. She likes to sleep in on Sunday morning which is when (after watching Match of the Day's repeat) I often play Pro Evo.

Basically she woke up far earlier than normal and came into the living room and wanted to watch TV. I said i'm just i the middle of a vitally important ML game (with Maritimo or Metz can't recall) and anyway I proceeded to lose as i wasn't "in the zone". Needless to say my mood darkened and things got a little bit heated.

So i'll play this match on sat afternoon whilst she's at work straight after the Lpool/Chelsea game.

4 of Spain's most famous clubs will be engaged in an Iberian battle royal on Sunday evening, with two of the quartet looking relegation square in the face by 10pm.

11th placed Deportivo and 12th placed Osasuna (both on 27 points) are already essentially assured of safety, bar a freak set of results that even the footballing gods couldn't contemplate.

That leaves the bottom three and Real Mallorca divided by a solitary point, with the two Basque and Barcelona outfits seperated by goal difference. The fixture computer, in somewhat of an anti-climax, has ensured none of the four will meet each other as Mallorca are at home to Galician's Deportivo, Bilbao travel south to take on Betis, whilst their San Sebastian cousins face Celta Vigo.

Espanyol, their destiny in their own hands thanks to Raul Tamudo's equaliser against Real Zaragoza, take on the yellow submarine in front of what is sure to be a packed Montujic.

Unfortunately they are without the influential Zabaleta and defensive lynchpin Torrejon due to suspension, with Valverde all but admitting anything other than safety will surely see both his contract terminated and several of the club's high wage earners leaving for pastures new.

excellent reading as always mate. I always look forward to reading how things are going in aachen and i'm delighted after last season's setback you are not just consolidating but also making headway too.

Was Olympiakos's offer a reasonable one ? (i know you have a rule where you must sell to a club of higher ranking/stature) but I wonder if the greek side knocked you down on the financial side of things.

Do you envisage a change of formation now the key man has gone and you have another front to fight on ?

Thanks db. Olympiacos came in with an offer that matched the player's value, and as they are ranked higher I had to accept. The higher-ranking rule has worked really well I think - even though you really don't want to see those players leave!

In four seasons, three players who I didn't want to sell have been snatched away by bigger clubs (Schlaudraff to Leverkusen, Diakité to Villa and now Lehmann to Olympiacos). Diakité wasn't a big loss as he wasn't a permanent fixture and Benko did a great job in his place, but Schlaudraff was a blow and I fear Lehmann could be missed even more.

I don't envisage a change of formation, the system is the biggest reason for last season's success. On the other hand, I rely quite a lot on the box-to-box industry of the two central midfielders, so someone is going to have to really step up to fill Lehmann's shoes.

Bernd Thijs might help. Sergio Pinto was drifting to the fringes last season... he may well get another chance to re-establish himself now. I think it's a bit too early for Yegorov yet. The expectation of lots of extra games is a worry though, so I guess everyone will get their chance as the others get tired.

Congratulations Nerf...finishing third with Alemania Aachen is a fantastic performance.
I don't know Lehman but i think Thijs will turn out to be a good player. As a matter of fact he is my favoured Belgian player...i don't understand why he's never selected for the national team...

You obviously play with an option file because Thijs (and Aachen) aren't in the original game...Thijs should have special ability "middle shooting" but when he was in the game (created by Konami) he never had that special ability...

Good luck with Thijs. I already enjoyed your stories a lot but now you got me involved even more...

Db, how did Espanyol fare against Villareal???

An extraordinary last weekend of the Iberian Primera Division saw Real Mallorca and Espanyol retain their top flight status, whilst the Basque band of brothers Athletic and Real both went down, the former for the first time in their history.

As the evening wore on, the emotional rollercoaster lurched one way then the other as the millions watching and listening at home and the tens of thousands inside the stadiums saw their nerves frayed.

Deportivo were the first side to strike, with Valeron giving the Galicians the lead against Mallorca. Then 2 quick goals in Catalonia from Pires and Franco stunned the capacity home crowd, who had been anticipating a cagey tight affair. No sooner had that news been digested, when reports came through that Vigo had scored at the Anoeta courtesy of Baiano, and it wasn't long before the Islanders went a second goal down as Arizmendi calmly tucked home a penalty. 5 minutes before the break and the only goalless match down in Seville saw action when Rafael Sobis scrambled in at the near post from a corner.

At half time, Celta were pegged back thanks to a strike right on the whistle from Alonso, a scoreline which if it stood, would leave the Donostia outfit safe by a single point. Across the peninsular, 15 minutes of calm permeated the storm but no sooner had the respective second half's begun than there was more drama to come.

Deportivo, clearly a cut above their Balearic opponents, notched a third when Duscher beat a lamentable offside trap to finish. Then on the hour mark, Sociedad's resistance was broken thanks to a stunning drive from Cannobio that caught the underside of the bar leaving Riesgo well and truly beaten. The same player added another moments later to make it 3-1.

The clock ticked down with all four relegation threatened sides losing, but then on 87' Fredson pulled one back for Espanyol. The Brazilian grabbed the ball despite protestations from Viera and urged his teammates to give it one last go. At the Ruiz de Lopera, the Rojiblancos, knowing that one solitary strike would still be enough, poured forward in search of an equaliser as injury time beckoned.

The full time whistle went in Palma, San Sebastian and Barcelona, with scenes of bedlam at the Montujic, where fans and players waited anxiously to hear the result from Andalusia. Finally, fantastically it came. Confirmation of a 1-0 defeat for the away side, and in seconds hundreds ran onto the hallowed pitch, ripping up the turf and defiantly declaring their love of Guillem Balague and his magnificent eleven.

Nerf, i envy your com coming in for your top players uninvited. I haven't had that happen, remarkably.
The biggest upset was this season, when Dante Lopez was called away on International duty and missed a league and cup game in one week and then he was too knackered to play the following week, therefore 3 games missed.

@db: Congratulations - I knew my faith wasn't misplaced ;). Will that be enough for the coach to cling on to his job? And if so, what changes does he have in mind to ensure they don't go through the same ordeal next season?

@gerd: I don't think the Thijs in my OF has middle-shooting either... perhaps I should add it.

By the way, for the record, I'd be interested to know the correct pronunciation of the name. Is it like ice/lice/Allardyce? I play with commentary turned off.

@nerf, Well done finishing third mate! What is your CL qualifying group like (if you've already started the next season)? Hope you've got a nice mixed group.

@Professor Nutmeg, Does Medunjanin seem to score a lot of headed goals for you?
For me he seem to always breeze through the defense, during a corner and bang the ball to the back of the net!

He does indeed. I think there is an emphasis on midfielders arriving in the box for headers (a la Tim Cahill) in PES6. I've had it happen often against me a lot too.

On the ML front, i'll be seeing out my 5th and final year of my contract at FCV (currently a little over half way through the season) and then i shall be moving country (not hard to do from Liechtenstein).

The obvious first: congratulations db...nice report too...i enjoyed reading this particularly...IMHO Valverde deserves another chance...but we all know Balague and his shitty temper...

Nerf:Thijs does not really sounds like "ice"...i don't find an appropriate word with a vowel like "IJ" in English...you English have the same problem with the "UY" in Kuyt aswell...

Prof: the PSP ML is better for transfer offers...i'm playing a ML with Bolton Wanderers. I'm in my fourth season. Ended second in third division in my first season, first in third division in my second (promotion to one of the 6 divisions two). Nicolas Anelka is Bolton's star players, three seasons and three times top scorer...i've had offers for him every year and always from the very big first division clubs: AC Milan, Inter, Barcelona and Valencia to name a few...i never sold him because PSP ML is much harder than PS2 (play on 3 stars, regular that is)...
I've won the second division and now i'm promoted immediately whic is a letdown...I thought i would ve' had to play play-offs with the other champions (Monaco, Sevilla, Palermo, SPorting Lisboa and NAC). But now i'm promoted as an English team whereas Liverpool is relegated although they finished 9th in an 18 club division...Next year if i want to stay up, i have to do better than Chelsea and Man Utd (the other two English clubs in division one). Theoretically it is possible that i finish third behind Man Utd and Chelsea and then i will be relegated or 17 th with either Chelsea or Man U as 18th and then Bolton stay up...typically Konami...
But the thransfer system is very realistic...
I've bought 4 players in 3 years: Jagielka, Jason Roberts, Aido (Ghana) and Mendonça (Angola).
Now i'm going for Jossi Benayoun...
