Spanish La Liga Thread

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

I'd try isco as a "false 9" between ronaldo and bale, sending benzema to where he belongs, to the bench. he's a lot better finisher than benzema. and then play modric as a real playmaker. he has a great vision, great technique, great shot threat or anything you'd need from a playmaker. of course this is my fantasy. because I'd have never let özil go. if you are a manager, players like him are your lifesaver.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

The main problem is that what the average Madrid fan really wants of the team is hardly achievable with the design of the squad. Either the fans accept the team should always play counter attack football or Florentino stops playing god and allows someone with the proper knowledge to design a squad that can really reach the goals (not only in terms of results).

But most probably that squad design would have involved Ozil and Higuain.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

wow, these squads are exactly like the way most people play them in pes/fifa.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Best clasico in a decade, both teams played an epic second half and delivered an intense match.

There was a penalty to Ronaldo but there was also a clear penalty of Pepe to Cesc and Ramos could have had a second yellow as well as there were hands of Adriano in the first half, but I dont think those were penalty at all.

The first 20 minutes Barcelona dominated the match and Madrid stood up later, specially the moment Bale went out. Honestly I don't know what Bale has to offer to Real. On the other side, Messi is still playing with a low profile after the injury and Neymar seems to end the matches with a lot of fatigue. We are still waiting for Iniesta.

The good news is that the classico seems to be all about football again, now that Mourinho isnt around.

By the way, Benzema is a hell of a lot better player than most Madrid fans think he is.

Question from someone who only watches La Liga occasionally: it seems blow out / high scoring games are way more common in this league than the PL ..is this actually fair to say for those who follow the league in Spain more closely?

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Ernesto Valverde hasn't lost any of his last 7 La Liga games v Barcelona (2W 5D) with Espanyol, Villarreal, Valencia and Athletic Bilbao.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Underrated coach, for sure. I truly rate him in the top 5 Spanish coaches of the last decade. An a big professional and good person.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

To be honest, never heard about Valverde before. Isn't Bielsa at Athletic de Bilbao anymore ?

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Nope, Bielsa didn't get well with the players in the second season and was sacked/went off.

Valverde is a former Espanyol, Barcelona and Bilbao player, very similar to Beguiristain at that time (late 80s). As a coach, he already coached Bilbao a decade ago, then was in charge of Espanyol and Villarreal with very good results until he went to Greece to coach Olimpiacos. Strangely, no one bidded for him in Spain.

Then he came back and coached Valencia last season (Valencia is a very hard club to work in) but returned to Bilbao which is his "football home" (he's Basque as well).

He's a very good coach in my oppinion, his teams play a mix of intense and passing football, but he's able to adapt. He has a personal record of never having been defeated by Barcelona in the last 5 years. He has 2 wins and 5 draws against the best Barcelona of all times. No one else on the planet can say this.

So he may be good.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

That is a terrific record.
How is Barcelona's current coach doing (forgot his name).
And what about Atletico, could they become title contenters ?
Is it likely that Koke would leave Ayletico for Man Utd ? There is avery strong rumour here in Belgium that Kevin De Bruyne will go to Atletico as replacement for Koke...

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

The best Gk of la liga isn't even nominated for FIFA's team of the year while two other la liga gk are among the five nominated for the gk in the team of the year. Buffon also is. He is a shadow of his former self.

The five nominated are: Victor Valdes, Casillas, Buffon, Cech and Neuer. That is a joke.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

all those awards (golden boot, balon d'or etc.) are jokes, used to keep fans on the edge of their chairs...and they will remain jokes until there is an objective rule by which award is given

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Casillas shouldn't be there, he barely played in 2013, Buffon isn't like before, Valdes is average.

IMO the five nominees should be : Neuer, Courtois, Diego Lopez, Hart, and maybe De Gea.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

can someone please explain the difference between Most Valuable Player and Best Player?

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Valdes has been excellent this season. For once, you can't rely argue against his inclusion in these kind of lists.

The omission of the likes of Courtois and Caballero is annoying but not that surprising given how reputation based these kind of awards tend to be.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

I agree with that post Abou.
Also don't see the difference between MVP and best player unless you don't want to show a preference for eiter Messi or Ronaldo...

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Te EU is investigating illegal state support to Spanish clubs: Hercules, Elche, Valencia, Athletic de Bilbao, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
If they have got illegal support, those clubs will have to reverse those amounts of money.

Very interesting, i wonder how this will end...

I can tell you how this will end, unfortunately...

But, just to add to the debate:
Just to be precise, one of the things they claim against Barcelona and Madrid is not fair. They acuse them of not being turned into SA companies (I don't know the terms in English for this kind of private stock society) and remain being owned by its members.

The main of turingn into SA companies was to force them to have positive balances because 99% of Spanish clubs were losing money and in big debts beyond their resources.

Real and Barcelona were operating in red numbers back then (not now) but their patrimonial and active value was much higher so in economic terms they are as good as many big companies out there. But... they are not companies, they are still owned by members as if they were a real private club.

I don't see where's the problem with this, we the members are proud of being the owners of the club, we don't want the club to turn into a big company that any sugar daddy can buy. Look what happened to Manchester United. We don't want this.

Now, on the other side, both clubs should reduce their debt and try to apply fair politics speciallt regarding TV rights.

But the worse and most important thing of the whole process is this:
http://deportes.elpais.com/deportes/2013/12/17/actualidad/1387312766_206852.html

We all knew it in Spain. The way Florentino Perez (the biggest mobster in Spain after Emilio Botin) and the right wing PP party sacked the public funds to build a megalomaniac squad, making the government pay 3.700% of the real price of some Real Madrid terrains and build stupidly high towers (which are partially empty as of now). This is the money that funded the transfers of Figo, Zidane, Beckham... Cristiano, Kaka... With the involvement of Caja Madrid which became Bankia which was one of the banks that imploded in the crisis and caused a hole od 20.000 M€ to the Spain economy.

It's a long story...

About other clubs such as Valencia, the way the Valencian government spend public funds on the club is absolutely shocking. The biggest damage to most Spanish football clubs is not the TV Share unfairness. It's their chairmen, the mobsters around them and the way they have ocmbined with the public governments to make ashaming things happen. Just another day at the office for this country.

Here's Balague on the issue: http://t.co/f5vKR2Wr49

The most depressing part is this for me, I had no idea of the magnitude of these numbers: The last available figures (September 30, 2012) showed that Spanish football clubs owed a staggering €750 million in back taxes and €600 million to the social security system. A suggestion by the Spanish secretary for sport, Miguel Cardenal, that these charges should be waived were, not surprisingly, was greeted with outrage.

That is shocking stuff, especially given the position Spain is in.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

I'd say it the other way around. The position Spain is in is due to things like this.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

What do you think about Aymeric Laporte from Bilbao ?

I like him, though I don't know if he will be up to the hype surrounding him right now. There are rumours about Madrid and Barcelona following him.

Personally, I think Musacchio is one of the best CB in the league.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

With Barcelona drawing, Atlético now have the chance to be top of the league on their own if they beat Sevilla. I really hope Atlético win the Primera this season, they have a great team and this way they hopefully won't have to sell their best players again.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

It was a very tough match , Levante could of scored another gol. That said Barca were attacking so much the wall couldn`t be penetrated . Alt Madrid at home vs Seville is going to be a exciting match. I don`t have a preference to win the league.

Im happy its no longer a 2 horse race! Its as close as EPL :BOP:

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Well Atletico only drew with Sevilla (1-1) and missed a good opportunity to go on top.
Real Madrid is the laughing third once again...
I hope this does not affect Atletico too much...

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Never managed to catch any of the games, but hard one for Atletico.

Wonder if that shows what is in store and they'll fall away.
