Spanish La Liga Thread

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

When your ego is TOO BIG even for the world's biggest club you know something is wrong....

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

It's about time UEFA puts the smackdown on all these crazy theatrics in football. Every time I talk to folks in the States who don't care much about the sport, they often point out how silly it is to see players rolling around the field like freakin ragdolls. It makes the sport look terribly pathetic from an outsider's point of view.

When is that report on corruption at FIFA actually supposed to come out by the way? The one they assigned that former FBI agent to? (not that I expect anything conclusive to come of it)

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

It would be fun to see the reaction of Chelsea fans, but IMO Chelsea should give Benitez an extension to his contract, imo he did quite well with them.

I've always quite like Mourinho as a person, but not his football. This current Chelsea team is quite attractive to watch.

Anyway, just saw large parts of the Coppa del Rey final. This was a travesty of a match despite a beautiful Atletico goal and a miraculous Courtois save. And despite the fact that i'm delighted that Atletico did win (oh and before i get insulting PM's, if they would have played Barcelona, i would also have supported Atletico, they are my favourite Spanish club).

Anyway, Spanish footbal land the FA have some things to consider...despite all their successes, Spanish football is rotten to the core: playacting, lots of talk about corruption, lots of clubs on the verge of bankruptancy...From an ethical point of view this must be the worst "big" league in Europe.

I have a friend who lives in Spain and if half of what he says is true, then this is a country that has serious problems.

Maybe because Spain has serious problems?

"Spain's unemployment rate rose to a record high of 27.2% in the first quarter of 2013"

This is the story of the chicken or the egg. Which came first ?

Maybe countries who function like Spain are more apt to become victims for financial problems ?

I sincerely have no idea...

It's a cultural thing, Gerd. There's nothing to be done. The only good answer we have found with the years to combat the absurd level of corruption is (don't laugh, I'm saying it seriously):

"And how good is the food and the weather here?".

Really, thee food and the weather in Spain (specially in the mediterranean coast) are amazing. That concludes the list of positives and that's the best analysis you can do of Spain as a serious modern country.

Sounds like Russia to me, except the weather :BOP:

That's why Spain (and Barcelona specifically) is getting crowded with Russians, eh? They feel like at home but with 30º more!

Yes, there is lots of estate to be bought :PIRATE:
After death Soviet Union Russia exploded, we are everywhere and sometimes I feel we are like cockroaches spreading across earth. Like in any other nation, there are lawful people and jackasses  Seems liks most of tourists are jackasses :/

I personally try to visit Barcelona at least once a year, its beautiful city with relaxed people, legalized marijuana and sunny weather :SMUG: I even considered moving to Barcelona, but umemployment rate is staggering and I need to learn spanish.. Well maybe one day I will buy a beach house or something :)

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

huge thanks to Negredo and his 4 goals against Valencia, and they also did the job against a side fighting with relegation as well. I'm very happy for Real Sociedad.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

I'm sad for Depor.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

I'm sad for Depor.

I'm not, Lendoiro, as many other spanish football chairmen, is a mobster that has put into his pocket most of the money that Depor is in debt right now.

I'm sad for the fans and Valeron, but the club management was asking for this!

On the other side, Real Sociedad deserves a hats off! Curious to see their movements this summer.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

I agree with you about management. The reason I'm sad is exactly the one written by you, probably this was the last season in Liga for Valeron and Manuel Pablo.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Manuel Pablo will probably last another season, even if it's to put a bit of experience to the squad, that next year will be based almost entirely on the youth team. It doesn't look specially promising, though...

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

I watched all Barcelona goals against Levante ..
5 of the 7, were exactly similar, Levante's defenders tried to trap the attackers off-side, and they failed ..
and this is the real problem of all la liga defenses, they abuse the use of the off-side trap, and they never learn ..
and IMO, this is the fault of the coaches, obviously they don't work on defense.
and the catastrophy is, they use massively the off-side trap against the team who loves breaking off-sides and are good at it ..
that explains why Barcelona last year won easily many La Liga games, and in CL they suck ..

defense is the main reason for the weakness of la Liga, and we all know in football, a team is built starting from the back line ..

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

I also watched those goals. Wonderfull football and Barcelona once again looked like the all conquering team under Pep once again (that high pressure).
Bad defending ?

Every goal is a result of bad defending. That fanatastic Maradonna goal at the 1986 world cup was the result of bad defending.

It is way too early to say that Barcelona is back, but extremely good against Levante. Levante where weak ? Maybe.

One question if this would have been Real Madrid, would you have mentioned bad defending ? I don't think so. You are too biased to judge Barcelona.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

I'll start with your last question : yes, I would say bad defending.
but I already said, that relying on off-side trap against Barcelona "specifically", is suicidal .. it can work (sometimes) against Sevilla, Valencia, or even Vallecano, but it will fail you against barça ..
it's vulnerable against them ..

anyway, I didn't write my last post to underestimate barça, this was never my intention ..
I just pointed out at what I consider a clearly misused defending strategy ..

and I believe this is the main reason behind the weakness of all La Liga, not huge money difference between RM-FCB and the others..

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

The crux of the problem is the huge financial difference between the Spanish old Firm and the rest.

No other sides can compete. And with the current economic climate they are forced to sell, so never have a chance to build a side. Valencia with the number of players they have been forced to sell for example would have made formidable challengers.

It will come to a point when the other teams as they should do say enough is enough. A collective TV deal or play endless El Classico's amongst yourselves.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

until this season, yes. this year, no.

falcao, soldado, negredo, navas, llorente, isco, illarramendi all left their clubs. sociedad and atletico are still looking good though.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Sociedad were one of the most entertaining sides in Europe last season.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Entertaining, yes.
But they came nowhere near madrid and barcelona.

The financial gap is way too big, and yes the others clubs could do something. Field a youth team against madrid and barcelona or even forfeit these matches until there is a fair division of tv-money.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Yeah, I know, I just meant there were other reasons to watch La Liga outside of El Clasico.

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

Yeah, I know, I just meant there were other reasons to watch La Liga outside of El Clasico.

Indeed so. The technical ability of several Spanish clubs have been admirably demonstrated in recent European club competitions with Malaga rather unlucky last season for instance and Real Sociedad playing some wonderful football.

And the way the youth system is set up youngsters are being produced to replace those that are leaving.

However the imbalance between the old Firm and the rest as in Scottish football will ultimately prove unhealthy.

By the way that Cal? on redcafe is one of the biggest insert your own word here on the planet......

I wonder if he is related to Cristiano.....:P

Re: Spanish La Liga Thread << El Barça, Campió de Lliga >>

He's a plank, I remember him trying to argue that the Premier League should distribute TV money in the same manner that La Liga does and everyone basically called him a spastic.

That Lailiani is probably worse though, to the extent where I think it is just an alias that Gareth Bale uses when he goes on the Internet.

:P Or he is also related to Gareth..... I do like Marcos when he slaps down Cal? It can get quite amusing..... :)

Atletico and Sociedad to take the two CL spots this season I think. This may be the season though when Banega decides to show that he really is the world class player his ability deserves. And Oliver Torres to show he is heir to Xavi.
