Sony PlayStation 4

Decided it's pointless having a 480gb SSD in my PC and only using about 100gb of it when I have 2x120gb SSD also not doing much, so cloned my C to one of those and now have the 480gb SSD in my PS4, definite speed improvements over the SSHD I was using (as of course there should be!) :)

So you would, when the PS4 becomes true digital download like Steam, cheap and reliable then I will put an SSD in my PS4 but since you still needs discs to play games then I don't see what real performance increase there would be at present.

Hopefully next gen will start seeing digital distribution become the norm and sites will start selling keys you can redeem on PSN, that way games will hopefully drastically reduce in price and consoles will finally move out the stone age.

That would be awesome! Although I'm not really seeing it sadly. At least pre-loading is a first small step, although the way MLB The Show was downloaded/installed was kinda useless, PS4 has to be fully turned on and the game has to be running to download/install the additional 36gb, pretty lame!

If games on the PSN were cheaper or the same price they were in the shops, I would buy all my games off PSN.
I would much prefer my games installed and running of an HD or SSD as load times would be pretty much instant, rather than having to wait around for a disc to be loaded.

Sadly I doubt it would happen this gen either as too many people say they still prefer owning discs, but the same thing was probably said about PC gaming 5-6 years ago. Since then PC gaming hasn't looked back, and not a single PC Gamer I know would ever return to having discs.

Hi, The only thing I could think of is that you somehow could wire the SATA cable in wrong to the PS4 but that should simply then not detect the HDD and as soon as you fix it the PS4 will boot fine :)

Could I ask why you've used a SATA male to female extension cable and an adapter? Any reason why these items are required?

Wouldn't a standard SATA cable plug straight into the port inside the PS4?

Pretty sure I mentioned previously (but no biggy) the sata cable didn't "click" into the PS4's Sata port so it wouldn't hold firmly in place, you don't want it coming loose whilst you're playing of course! So I decided to get that adaptor which holds in place much better :)

Ah I see, yeh that makes sense. I missed that part entirely. Thanks again.

Looks great, visually. Not sure what to think about Driveclub really based on the videos I've seen and the delays. Seems a little uninspired to me. Come October it might be good though.

Same with me, game looks great but racing games are usually boring for me... At least we will have a PLUS version to test it properly before buying the full game.

The Order 'looks' very nice but I hate parts in games where you drag fallen teammate A to a safe area, while using your pistol with ultra wobbly aiming, whilst a cloning machine pumps out waves of enemies.

Why do they still think this kind of shit looks awesome?

I've come across a bit of a snag. I connected everything up correctly, as instructed. Used the correct file to re-install the software successfully. Logged into the PS4 just fine as well, signed into PSN, downloaded my sace data and installed my first game successfully.

However, when I went to power off the system, it got stuck in a loop. Now when trying to reboot it, it's not picking up the Hard Drive and is asking me to reinstall the software all over again.

Any tips?

Did you try to set it to stand by or shutdown completely?

Definitely remove everything and reattach to make sure it's connected ok, did you do it the same way as me with the little female/male converter board or just with cables? It needs a power SATA cable plugged into the PS4 even if that doesn't connect to the hard drive (assuming your hard drive is externally powered).

DriveClub and now The Order? PS4 not looking like a great buy right now what with the delays. Wondering if maybe I should've waited a year to get the console.

Well with TLOU remastered out in July, GTA 5 (maybe) around the same time, Fifa 15 in October, FC4 in November, AC5 some point later in the year, that's already a few of my kind of games to keep things ticking over throughout the year :)

All of which are also available for other systems.

But my biggest problem with the PS4 is lack of media support, the PS4 really is the most disappointing console I have ever purchased.

No games, no media playback - it's no wonder my PS4 is sat in a cupboard with the PS3 still taking the space under the TV.
