Sony PlayStation 3

If you think about it, if the PS3 does have more FPS's than 360 then isnt that to Sony's advantage? Having all the genres covered makes the PS3 a better proposition to everybody.
It might, but only if you think most of those games will be good. My problem with the PSX, PS2, and probably the PS3, isnt that they don't have tons of games for every genre; its that they have tons of piss poor games and only a few greats for each genre. But hey, thats just my opinion based on the experience Ive had with $ony game consoles.:)

This one(based on only PS3) sure did have Resistance(FPS) all over the place. If it didnt win is sure was in the nominees.:)

look mate, i did not say there were not any rated FPS at all, all i said was that they were hardly featured as the best (or one of the best) playable games at this year's show (mostly for the PS3) with games like assasins creed and heavenly sword (not to mention a whole host of others) stealing the show, but at the same time FPS's were the pinnacle games for the 360.
I'm not trying to steer up anything just saying that compared to the other game genres coming out on the PS3, FPS and shooters in general i think are getting the right percentage of attention they really deserve (no disrespect to FPS fans) and this is a good thing because then there are loads of solid variety titles to choose from at the end of the day. END OF.... :)

KUTARAGI TO DELIVER KEYNOE AT TGS '06

It's been confirmed that Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi will deliver the pre-show keynote for this year's Tokyo Game Show when the event kicks off on September 22nd.

Kutaragi's speech will be titled 'The next-generation as created by the PlayStation 3' and it's thought that he could make some important announcements regarding Sony's future plans - particularly since the launch of the new console will be less than two months away. Last year's pre-show keynote was delivered by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata - who took the opportunity to unveil the Wii's unique remote controller.

Square-Enix president Yoichi Wada will also address visitors to the show with a speech that will focus on the problems and challenges facing the games industry. There will also be speeches on the MMO and mobile markets, and Epic Games' Jay Wilbur and Mike Capps will be on hand to discuss Unreal Engine 3.

The Tokyo Game Show will take place at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, from September 22nd - 24th. It's already being billed as the biggest TGS ever, with record consumer and industry attendance anticipated.

I remember when Iwata showed the Wii controller at last years keynote. It was a great speech. Expect some fireworks when Kutaragi steps up on his home turf ;)

If the PS3 turns out to be spectacular, I'll ditch the 360 no probs. Same goes vice versa and with the Wii.

We don't owe Sony/MS/Nintendo/Sega anything! If there is something out there that you really enjoy and feel it is worth having, then it doesn't matter if you've been a loyal customer of Sony/MS or whoever.

At the end of the day it is us who is shelling out the dosh - the whole concept of blind loyalty (to any product) is ridiculous.

However, what gets me stressed about the current situation with Sony is their attitude that us PS2ers will automatically buy their console - I haven't seen them put any effort to where it really counts: the games. To be fair however, we haven't seen much from MS either.....

....but that is what you're gonna get from companies who don't give f*** all about the gamers. Bring back Nintendo and Sega!

Yeah, cause they never just wanted our money. ;)

I bought a PSX to keep me going between the Saturn and the Dreamcast, it was a bargain back then, it was the same price as buying about 3 import games on my Saturn. Driver was the game that sold me the console back then, something so new and different. When the PS2 came out, the DC was doing alot of stuff better, so I was happy with it, until PES of course came out and a little game around the same time called GTA III. With the PSP it was WipEout Pure.

Until either the price drops or there is a Killer App I really want or need to play the PS3 will stay on the shelf, I dont own a HDTV, so I cant take advantage of HD gaming yet nevermind Blu-Ray. I also see alot of people who couldnt really care less about having to re-buy their movie collection in a new Higher Def format. I enjoyed Assasins Creed, Heavenly Sword and Lair at E306, and Assasins Creed has now been confirmed Multi-Format. I have bought only 3 consoles at launch, DC @ 200 noop, GC @ 130 quid and the 360 @ 280 spuds. All of them I thought where value for money.

All machines from the last generation had some very ropey titles on them, it always happens, people think they can get a buck out of us old Joe Public.

Brand loyalty is something, but Blind Loyalty is pure stupidty as Rocky says.....

Report: Developers are Steering Away from PS3

There's never been a company that has dominated the video game business for three straight console generations. Can Sony pull it off? It's not looking good as the high price seems to be putting off not only prospective consumers but also developers, and that could be a vicious circle.

Is Sony's PlayStation 3 in trouble before it even launches? Sony has been the undisputed champion of the last two console generations, towering over the competition, but now it seems like every analyst, developer and industry pundit is placing a laser sight directly on Sony's forehead.

The biggest problem would appear to be the pricing for the system. Even the lower priced $500 SKU is expensive, and $600 seems ridiculous to most. Ever since Sony revealed this pricing strategy at this year's E3, the company has been put on the defensive, arguing that it's a "computer" and that with the inclusion of a high-def Blu-ray player it's really a "bargain."

Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer himself has admitted that the console is expensive and that consumers are paying for its "potential." In the PS3's native Japan, the reaction has been less than pleasant, with more than 90 percent of developers in a recent survey stating that the price of the console is just too high. And indeed it seems that this high price is affecting whether or not certain developers decide to develop for the PS3. Sony's PlayStation business has always been backed by incredibly strong third-party support, but now for the first time that could be in jeopardy.

According to a BusinessWeek Online report, some developers are actually steering resources away from the PS3 in favor of the more affordable Wii from Nintendo and even the Xbox 360. Hirokazu Hamamura, president of publisher and game industry researcher Enterbrain, believes that Sony's next-gen console might not be a smash hit the way previous PlayStation systems have been. "Many developers think the console's initial high price will lead to slow sales and are holding off on creating games for Sony," Hamamura explained.

"At its autumn games preview on July 13, for instance, traditional Sony ally Electronic Arts spent far more time showing off innovative Nintendo games than it did titles for the PS3," emphasized BusinessWeek. "EA announced six Nintendo Wii launch titles and showed long working demos for two of those. But it offered only a short clip of a car-racing game for PS3. EA says it's still testing the potential of the PS3."

Ultimately, developers and analysts agree that in order for the PS3 to be a success in the long run, Sony will have no choice but to bring the cost of the system down as fast as possible. "It's likely Sony will have to discount more...and faster" than planned, commented JP Morgan analyst Hiroshi Takada.

Take this with a grain of salt, but IMO the future doesnt look as bright as $ony and its fans expect it to be.

Not meaning to start any flaming but most of that looks like it's rendered stuff with a tiny bit of in game thrown in.
If you watch carefully you can see when it changes. Looks good still but I think it's just a bit deceptive. But as with everything the proof is in the pudding so if it looks as good when it comes out I'll take my hat off to Sony.

It all looks uniform and consistent to me. But it's all down to how it plays, not how it looks.

stiil the ps3 will cost too much early on. with gas prices going up and the cost of daily living it just too much that sony is asking us to spend on just the console alone........................

The 1 thing im sure Sony have got right is the Next Generation of Storage Medium, Using Blu Ray is a good idea because it offers developers up to 50GB's of data per disc so I have to give them credit for that.

November will be very interesting and even though I am a huge fan of Xbox 360, ill be keeping my eye on the PS3 launch with interest to see how people react to it and see how good it actually turns out. I wont get one to begin with as they cost just too much money and there aint enough interesting games announced for it so far.

Just watched the Motorstorm clip, 1 the game looks a bit dull and boring and 2 that looks like an FMV intro sequence... not in game. Where is the HUD etc?.. I smell a Sony Rendering Rat!

More bad news for the PS3.

WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2007 cancelled for PS3

By Jason Bayer on Jul 23, 2006

Today, THQ announced that they have cancelled the Playstation 3 version of the next title in the hit wrestling series WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW. The 2007 version, which now is only under development for the Xbox 360, PS2, and PSP, will not grace the PS3 library, as the company wants to "concentrate resources on the other three platforms."

THQ supposedly started their development on the PS3 version several months later than the other console versions, which may explain their decision: the game may not have been able to fit thei deadlines, or they may not have been able to adapt to the new hardware in time.

Thus far, THQ has only given this announcement through their German forums, and has yet to send an official press release. For now, the bad news reports just keep flowing in and getting worse for Sony and PS3.

Thats a very credible interview seeing as hes part of the team thats making the incredible Gears Of War.

I think from the interview all hes saying is PS3 games are looking good, as good as 2nd generation 360 titles. I think that obvious to everyone though!

Im sure hes saying that coz he wants to pimp UT 07 on PS3 as well as Gears Of War on 360 ;)

I know this was asked before but...is there any news about Winning Eleven on PlayStation3 yet?

nothing so far. Konami wont deny rumours that a PS3 version will be out this year, Thats why many believe it will appear this year or very early next year.

I reckon we'll find out at the Leipzig games convention or TGS.

Didn't Seabass confirm a PlayStation3 version in an interview?

Just an overview on the video interview. He was bigging up UT '07, clearly saying it was looking as good as Gears of War. IMO GoW looks loads better, but he isnt gonna say that seeing as he's making both games! ;)
