Sony PlayStation 3

Guys Ive just seen what I think is a new video of the PS3 interface on PSM2's latest DVD, which comes free with their mag. I know some videos have been posted online, but this seemed very clear and had someone speaking about the features.

First of all its totally different to the 360. IMO microsoft has nothing to worry about on the looks department. The 'blades' set up on the 360 is ingenious, very easy to navigate.

The PS3 interface like we already know looks just like the PSP. Its very plain, but what makes it a different proposition to the 360 is the web brower. Its amazing!

You can actually surf the web like you can on a PC. It showed Yahoo's homepage come up. But the great thing is you can have loads of pages running at the same time viewed like a 'picture-in-picture' type display. It looks similar to what Windows Vista has shown.

Im very impressed.
 
Next they will be releasing a Keyboard and mouse for this thing... might as well call it a PC3!

About Call of Duty 3

"Some gameplay footage from Activision´s Call of Duty 3. This footage comes from the Xbox 360 version, but the PS3 versions should look about the same. However QJ.net reports that the PS3 version will sport a few extra light sources among other minor visual flourishes."

Dude I dont hate Sony.... but compare the first ever screens you saw of MotorStorm to the actual in game ones? notice a difference? suddenly doesnt look so smooth and good does it? take for example the Formula 1 screens they did back in 2005.

But Motorstorm look very very good actually in game playable at E3
 
Noted the car models look more advance and the textures look way to sharp to be PS2 mate. This has been confirmed as F1 06 for PS3.

Yeah, they are using APple software and if they don't pay for full amount a watermark remains. What a shame, would love a white PS3! LOL!

Right, Ive got some bad news for the people who really want the PS3 before Xmas.

At work I recieved an email regarding PS3 allocation. Some of you might recall I posted on here a few weeks ago saying there were indications that there were gonna be low numbers for launch.

Well that has pretty much been confirmed today. As you know Game usually gets a lion share of console coming into the UK. In the email it said that after ongoing difficulties with Sony trying to secure consoles we are going to have to stop promoting the PS3. Its looking likely many flagship stores will recieve a handful of consoles.

When you walk into a store in a few weeks you might find us promoting the Wii more than you would of thought. Thats because we've managed to secure hundreds for launch, meaning our main source of income looks like it will come from Wii and 360, not PS3.

Theres a small possibility things could change, but it seems unlikely it will. Right now Im not too sure whether its because Sony cant make enough consoles for a worldwide launch, or whether its Game becoming impatient with Sony UK regarding console allocation.

Either way, it seems buying a PS3 for ebay will be even more of a fantastic investment.

np, Wii stock looks excellent to be fair. Popularity of the console should be high too, especially with it now being Game's no.1 console for xmas. Pre-ordering will start soon for the Wii, Nintendo are being much more cooperative than Sony.

In the email it mentioned a September launch for the Wii might happen, although I see this as a reference to internet rumours.

Once upon a time, the much-anticipated Playstation 3 looked as if it would wipe the floor in the battle of the next-generation consoles. Supporting the high capacity Blu-ray disc and powered by a Cell processor, the technological superiority of the PS3 would help Sony maintain dominance in the console market. However the electronics giant may have bitten more than they could chew with news that gremlins are affecting the production of the new-console.

One of the worries concerns the 3.2 GHz Cell processor-- the engine of the PS3. Its size and complexity as meant that up to 90% of the chips produced are rendered unusable for the console. This is pretty high when you compare it with the 5% failure rate of a standard silicon geranium chip.

The Cell chip has 8 cores, and the PS3 needs 7 cores to be operational. Sony are prepared to install the chip in the console, even if only 7 of the 8 cores are working The danger here is that if just one of the cores blows the whole console needs to be replaced -- which would be bad news for a customer whose warranty has lapsed.

A further implication is that Sony will have to invest a lot of money just to produce an adequate number of chips. Even then it's likely that supply will be initially quite limited.

This is another addition to the long list of setbacks that have affected the PS3.
Problems with the development of the Blu-ray drive have already forced Sony to push back the launch date from Spring to November, giving the rival XBox 360 a much longer time to establish itself in the market

The high entry price - quoted as being- £425 - is likely to frighten casual and non-gamers from investing in the console, especially as Nintendo's Wii is likely to retail for around £150. Even at this high price, Sony will be still be operating at a loss and will only expect to make a profit after a couple of years - that's if it makes a profit at all.

Until you try it no one can judge. Yea the price is steep but we already knew this.

If you look at the latest PS3 VF5 trailer which is all in game then the futures great for the console.
 
I must confess I did like the look of Eight Days on PS3. It will be interesting to see how the Getaway comes out like.

MS have let me down with the 360 mainly with Market Place as well as a different mix of games that original xbox did not have.

Yes, but no company is as arrogant about it as $ony is. I also wasnt talking about only $onys game segment. They are arrogant about all of their overpriced products IMO. :)

Dead Man, give it time mate and im sure we will have the mix of titles and we will have some really great games too, I wasnt expecting too much from the first sorta year of Xbox 360 so I dont feel let down :) but I think this coming year which will be the XBox 360's 2nd year will be crucial to MS and I think the quality of games will improve and it will be good to have the PS3 out there too.

Also, I'd like for someone to name the smashing titles that were released for the PS2 within the first 6 montns to a year. I can name one title that was considered great by PS2 gamers, the first SSX and some people say TimeSplitters, but thats it. We didnt see the light of games such as FFX, GT3, GTA3, MGS2, etc. until after a year since the PS2 release.

Nah i will, i am having a dig at the mix & diversity of the games. We will probably end up with a shit load of FPS game sagain.
 
Thats what keeps many of my mates away from the 360.

TBH I wouldve sold my 360 by now if PES wasnt coming out before the PS3 version. Ive grown up with the PS2 and love the games Sony makes.

But anyways, I reckon the Wii will take this generation. Well I hope they do as it will prove to developers sometimes you have to take risks.
