Sony PlayStation 3

v true....I find myself playing more on my ds than I do with the 360. I get the feeling it'll be the same with the Wii - the 360 will be gathering up dust! ;)

I think it is natural - gamers aren't stupid: fancy graphics can only take you so far...gameplay is where it counts.

Why are people only just getting this?
I've felt this way for years but got flamed when I spoke about it.

Wow, have you all forgotten the console is only 7 months old? And the fact we are in the summer which is always a notouriously slow time for games and you are all moaning already. The 360 has had a very impressive start for a console, the best launch so far, no other console has had so many good games in its infancy and with the stunning titles on the horizon things are really looking good for the 360 IMO loads of quality games in loads on different genres. And with the ps3 about to be released gaming has never been in a better state, contrary to what a lot are saying.

I am moaning because the trend that xbox set does not seem to be changing with the 360. FPS games seems to be all thats coming out give or take a few. I like FPS games but want rpgs(finished oblivion), adventure games, action games. Yea there are a few of thes coming out but not enough in my opinion.

This is why Wii wil be my main console. I feel i am bored of gaming at the mo.

Anyway this is a PS3 thread but if you say the next batch of 360 games coming is not enough for you then quiet frankly nothing will be.

Probably right but it my opinion. End of really.

Looking for to the PS3 but getting one depends o launch games & if US PS2 games work on PS3 i.e Final Fantasy 12

At the end of the day, the price tag is only justified by the level of enjoyment you get out of it. Since no one has played any of the PS3 games, I dont think anyone here is in a position to say PS3 buyers dont have sense.

Ask yourself this, if you paid £280 for a console and didnt have much fun with it, and someone else paid £425 for theirs and absolutely loved it, who's the one that wasted their money?

Well said mate. Totally agree. I will probably end up enjoying the PS3 more in the long run.

Is the console still region free?

As far as we know, yeah. I think it was an official confirmation that all games will be region free.

yeh, but I reckon it will be down to the developers...just like it is for the 360.

Im with Dead Man, I really think I'll personally get more enjoyment out of the PS3. Only because it doesnt feel like a console with billions of FPS's. Im sure the PS3 will have loads too, but also a large variety of different games covering different genres too.

If you love FPS's though I really wouldnt look past a 360.

The thing is though now that PES and GTA are coming out on 360 on their usual day of release I cant see too many other titles that would make me want to buy a PS3. Only Eight Days, the Getaway 3 and F1 06 (if its better than that screenshot suggests) interest me. I am having fun with the 360 but the lack of a Solid Football title is whats making me play PS2 for WE10 at the moment.

The PS3 will be good get in....

2008 Once the price drops and once the PS3 becomes easier to program for.
Right now the 360 is able to be programmed for easily becuase of it's close architecture and spec to the original xbox that developers will develop for it becuase of this earlier on. It won't be until the developers see other developers work on the PS3 that will become interested. say konami with metal Gear . IF MGS 4 looks just like the fmvs in motion. just IMAGINE how crazy people will become, but still GOW is remarkable for a game that would be coming out this year already.

I'd say with the current trend in the Video Game Market(you know, all the shit games with no originality), the PS3 will be a FPS machine also. Hell, with $ony running around saying its a PC all the time, I guarantee it will get the same treatment as a PC, FPS and more FPS, and even many third person shooters, lets just say shooters in general. Don't believe me; just check the games coming for the PS3(with genre stated in parenthesis).

6Gun II(Modern Tactical Shooter)
Army of Two(Modern First-Person Shooter)
Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway(Historic First-Person Shooter)
BioShock(Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
Call of Duty 3(Historic First-Person Shooter)
Coded Arms :Assault(Sci-Fi Adventure) (I think they mean Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
Cipher Complex(Modern First-Person Shooter)
Dark Sector(Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
Frontlines: Fuel of War(Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
F.E.A.R. 2(Modern First-Person Shooter)
Fifth Phantom Saga(Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
Half-Life 2(Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
Haze(Modern First-Person Shooter)
Killzone?(Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
Killing Day(Modern First-Person Shooter)
Medal of Honor: Airborne(Historic First-Person Shooter)
Project IM(Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
Project Delta(Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
Resistance: Fall of Man(Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
Redwood Falls(Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas(Modern Tactical Shooter)
Turok?(Fantasy First-Person Shooter)
The Darkness(Modern Shooter)
The Club(Modern Shooter)
Unreal Tournament 2007(Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter)
Untitled Western Shooter by Rockstar(Historic First-Person Shooter)
WarDevil: Enigma(Fantasy First-Person Shooter)

The system is not even out and look how many shooters they have slated already. And imagine that, most of them are Sci-Fi Shooters

Sadly I agree with deftones...

Fancy graphics = FPS

If you want an immersive environment, the best way to showcase this is with a FPS. Expect Sony to apply pressure on the game companies to produce more FPS based games :(

Playable games don't need the graphics - (sometimes) the fact that they look so unrealistic (e.g. Samba de Amigo) makes it more fun.

Look at what the crowds were wowing at in E3: Gears of War and Killzone 2. Even with the Wii, people were talking more about Red Steel than the other games

Very true. But at least the PS3 will have rpgs(which i really enjoy). I only see Mass Effect on 360.

Too many FPS games.

i agree with rockykabir and deadman but Fortunately i dont agree with deftonesmx17 there as i'm not a big fan of shooters in general (first person shooters to be precise), although i think with every decent, crisp shooter that come out it seems like every developer wants to make something similar(dunno why?) but i still think unlike the 360 (no pun intended) the ratio of shooting games to other games (with more originality and that are also decent as well) is still commendable.
To tell the truth sony are not helping matters as deftones.. said, but i still think there are plenty more titles that dont have a weird looking alien on the front cover of the stupid box, namely....

Its just a shame most are multi-platform.

Better variety of games coming on PS3 tho, even 360 fans are fed up with all the FPS Ggames. I for one am sick of them.

I don't get what you are not agreeing with me on. I never said I wanted a bunch of shooters, I simply stated the PS3 will have a shit load just like the 360, which is impossible for you not to agree with.

yes "shooters" are rapidly increasing but so are normal games with more originality, thing is i can only say that for the PS3.
I wouldnt be so sure of that if I were you.

360 list is larger

I wont even bother with sports games as almost all are multi-platform anyways. It doesnt seem to me that the PS3 has a great amount over the 360 in the other genres. Looking at all the different lists(ones not linked)and looking at the big picture, it almost seems like the 360 has more of everything coming, including shooters.

I really hope we see some good platforms! On PS1, I used to love playing Spyro 1&2 and Crash bandicoot!

I know where you're coming from deftonesmx17, but I feel in the long run the PS3 will have more variety.

That comes from the simple fact that Sony is a Japanese company, based in a country that is known to dislike FPS's. Thats obviously why the PlayStation platforms always get a large amount of RPG's.

But with Microsoft being an American company they do miss out on some Japanese quality. Okami, Shadow of the Colossuss, proper Final Fantasy games etc are just a few games that come to mind right now.

The list you provided doesnt tell the full story whatsoever. Many of the games on the 360 list are only on there because the PS3 isnt out yet, not because they are exclusive so expect the PS3 list to grow.

Also, by looking at the list the PS3 has much more quality over the 360's quantity.

Exactly what i was going to say, You just stole those words from my mouth in the last couple paragraphs Adonis  .... but deftonesmx17, what i didn't agree with you about was the "the PS3 will be a FPS machine also" and (to my own understanding) your whole concept of PS3, going to be ruined by first person shooters or shooters in general, well i still dont think so, although there are loads of shooters coming out on the thing but the variety i think will still be broad and huge most of the reasons why adonis has already stated ;)

Its impossible to state the quality of games before you have even played them.;)

As for "the PS3 will be a FPS machine also", last I checked, Killzone?? was the most talked about trailer from any E3, and that was before people knew it was fake.........and killzone is what, a FPS.

Errrmmm not!! first of all, one game can not ultimately dictate what genre a console will be or is. knowing that easily over 500,000 (arguable) games will come out on the console throughout its lifecycle, of different genres of games so i dont know why you have based your judgements on the console on one game that's not even as hyped as it was anymore.
Secondly, i thought we were disscussing ;) about the "GAMES" not trailers,
ow and thirdly, speaking of games, the last time i checked killzone wasn't even playable at E3 06 and the host of game awards after the show (by many sites)hardly featured any FPS for the PS3 and you predict it will be a FPS machine . here are some of many i cant be bothered to post ;)

ow and by the way check those sites and any more you can dig out (only trusted well known sites) if you have the time for the best games on the 360, if it aint a shooter or FPS, i wont eat for a whole day :)..... promise

spot on, cant argue with that.

If you think about it, if the PS3 does have more FPS's than 360 then isnt that to Sony's advantage? Having all the genres covered makes the PS3 a better proposition to everybody.

Anyways, theres a new article on www.mcvuk.com regarding PS3 preorders:

MCV said:
£150 PS3 deposit shock

16:15, Jul 20th by Lisa Foster
Consumers will have to pay a hefty £150 deposit to pre-order PS3 hardware, if a revolutionary new allocation scheme by Sony is introduced.
In an exclusive report published in tomorrow’s issue of MCV, it is revealed that the format holder is currently discussing the radical new plan with senior retail buyers as it looks to manage a limited initial hardware supply this Christmas.

The £150 deposit scheme is being considered to ensure that allocation can be more fairly managed. In particular, it is believed that Sony is looking to avoid the ‘eBay phenomenon’ that occurred with the launch of Xbox 360 whereby some consumers who managed to acquire more than one unit – on deposits as low as £5 – sold on their extra machines for well above the RRP.

Sony has confirmed that it is in talks with retail about the scheme.

The last line about the 'talks with retail about the scheme'? Lets just say we've told them to F**K OFF! ;)

But it depends on how long we can hold out. We depend on Sony as much as they depend on us.
