Rock Band Thread

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

Rock Band is brilliant, I must admit there's a few details about GHIV that are intriguing me (touch-pad guitar neck and more things to play with on the drums), but A) that may mean a higher price and RB is pricey enough, and B) Harmonix are the original GH/RB developers and so I will always "trust" theur games over everything else. The GH games developed by Harmonix were far superior to the ones developed after they sold the name...

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

Just had a drum session for the first time in ages!

Tried most on 'Medium' - then "Hand in Pocket" on Hard which I got 96% on, then as my last go, my first ever "Expert" drum on the 2nd easiest song, "Say It Aint So".

Whilst I did fail at around 90%, it was superb and all I had in my mind is that this is 'as close, if not exactly' the actual drum notes played in the song. That gave me a great thrill and it felt good to be (trying to) hit every note played instead of hearing the ones not charted as you are on an easier level.

Might keep practicing at this level!

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

I played The Killers - When You Were Young on Expert today and got 87%.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

I think my % is better on expert than on hard. I don't know why I struggle more with the hard difficulty.

I'm glad that I practise on expert, I managed to stop being stucked at the Rolling Stones song on hard.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

Alright I'm going to get it. Is it worth getting an extra guitar? Also what DLC is worth getting and how much does it cost?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

If you are really sure to play every week with someone else, ok. If not, don't buy it.

Tonight I did 95% expert mode with "Are you gonna be my girl". I was crazy !!!!

Dani California 75%.... :( Hard finish. But now I stucked at NIN's. There's a solo after 50% that destroys me. I do ok but after 10 sec I can't keep the rythm :(

So I play Hard and Expert at the same time and when I'm stuck, I change difficulty.

For most of the songs I do 85% now. My hands are beginning to play by themselves. Sometimes I can't control what I do !

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

yep I think im seriously going to have to practise on Hard/Expert as now Medium is so boring and slow. I find myself trying to play notes that arent there but are on hard/expert

That's what i do with the drums a lot

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

I wish the drums weren't so loud when you hit them. Unless you turn the volume way up on the game, it doesn't sound that great

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

Jay used his wifes panty liners to cure that

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

you get some elastic bands and 4 socks - put the sock over the drum pads then pull them around and hold both ends underneath the drum pads - put the rubber bands (or whatever) around the sock to keep it in position and it takes a lot of the noise away from the drums

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

Doesn't cover all of the pad though. Unless you have very big feet.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

I'm moving into an appartment next week and going to have to face toning down my Rockband (and Singstar) noise. Gonna be hard as I love to use singing as a stress relief.

Guitar will obviously be ok, but singing and drumming :( help!

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

Use the above tips !
If it works...
:D

Not convinced with the 'sock mod' - how will a sock go over the drum head?!

Probably going to go with the dampening pads you can get and maybe even rubber tipped sticks.

People in flats though have had problems with thumping the footpedal. I'm pretty light on it, but it would probably still make a 'thud' to the neighbours :( I'm gonna be fucking popular!

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

i don't pull the sock over the pad like you do onto a foot - you just place the sock on top like you're putting it on top to dry - then pull the toe end and the ankle part underneath and use something to keep them together - rubber bands, a big safety pin, tape...

you can test how effective it is for you without fastening them down as well so you don't waste loads of time by just placing a sock on the pads now with the toe end at the top (heavy part at the top so its less likely to slide off with hammering)

It works ok for a free mod but i think ill have to look at buying some pads or maybe some cheap mouse mats to cut up at some point because with the harder songs i find im hitting more notes when i just hammer away and i dont play like im afraid to make any noise

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

Even on high volumes all I can here is the clattering of the sticks on the pads. You don't get the full effect. So I may have to try this sock mod tomorrow.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

Radiation, if you used football socks you'd probably be able to get away with just tying the underneath the pad, then you wouldn't need rubber bands.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

I still dont see the benefit - do you have to then 'hit' the sock?

I have enough trouble hitting the middle of the pads as it is!

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

yeah you just use the sock to cover the pads and it dulls the sounds a little - you still get a 'dink dink dink' noise but its muffled like someone shouting with a pillow over their face... though like i told my solicitor i've never done that, she was like that when i found her.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

:lmao:

But surely the sock doesn't cover the whole pad though? The photos I've seen only show the socks going over the middle of the pads?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

that's what i hated about the RB videos

that shitty plastic tapping noise every time you hit it

Yeah on mine they cover the central part which is where i aim to hit and they dull the tap tap tap of the drums a lot - i still miss the socks randomly and hit the rim and end up with a loud CRACK noise but thats a mixture of me being crap and the drums being a bit cramped

I do that all the time, as well as whack the sticks together accidentally when you've got to do a drum roll. Makes you jump, haha.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, (360 / PS3)

I'm shit at drum rolls. For slow songs I'm alright with them and do a nice slow roll but ont he faster ones I'm completely off time. Not that it matters but it sounds shit.
