Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

Numerous reports suggest MTV and Harmonix are hard at work on a sequel to Rock Band, with some retailer databases suggesting it could be out as early as November this year.

The first sightings were from online focus groups testing things such as price and features as well as box art choices, according to Joystiq.

Following this were obituaries for the late guitar hero Bo Diddley, claiming his cigar box-shaped guitar will be featured in Rock Band 2, presumably as an in-game unlockable rather than a peripheral.

Rock Band was released on Xbox 360 and PS3 in the US last November, with a PS3 version following in December and Wii version out this month.

Europe has so far only been treated to the Xbox 360 edition, with PS3 and other versions to follow later in the year.

It costs rather a lot at GBP 180 for the game plus instruments - guitar, microphone, drums, but is among the most fun you can have with four people in the same room. Head over to our Rock Band review to find out why.

Distributor EA has been contacted for comment.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

I read a while ago they where working on rockband 1.5 - which was what we all got but with some extra stuff on the disc like some of the DLC and extra clothing/hair styles.

As long as they get the DLC to work with RB2 I'm happy.

Though it would be a joke if they release RB2 in november and the PS3 only gets RB1 a month earlier

Description (from the survey):

"Rock Band 2 lets you and your friends play as a virtual 4-person band, in person or online, to rock out to some of the biggest rock anthems from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. Rock Band 2 will be a full featured sequel, similar to full featured sequels you see released by other big video game franchises, such as Need for Speed, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, or Halo. In the music/rhythm genre, it is similar to the feature jumps made from Guitar Hero I to Guitar Hero II or Guitar Hero II to Guitar Hero III."

* The sequel will be full featured and will represent a jump similar to that from Guitar Hero I to GHII, or GHII to GHIII.
* Separate questions ask the likelihood of purchasing Rock Band 2 Special Edition (i.e. the full instrument package) for $199, $169 and $149, respectively. All current Rock Band consoles (PS3, PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii) are mentioned.
* There are questions concerning Rock Band Track Pack: Volume 1 and how many expansion packs you are expecting to purchase in the next six months.
* The survey asks likelihood of purchasing Rock Band over a multi-instrument version of Guitar Hero.

EA reportedly provided details on the new features for Rock Band 2 in some of the surveys, but we haven't been able to confirm this. New additions to World Tour mode are said to include online play, the recording of music videos and hiring of staff members. Other new features include Battle of the Bands, competing against other bands in daily and weekly battles, setting challenges to progress through your band's discography in increasingly harder setlists, as well as a drum trainer mode.

My only wish lists for any sequel are:-

1) The same peripherals work
2) The DLC I have already brought will work.

Other than that, I could care less for a sequel as the game is excellent as it is. If it was to have new features, these are the only things that I personally want:-

1) A Singstar style community so you can save/upload audio/video clips

2) Better leaderboards - i.e. I want to know my best score either before or during the performance (what ever happened to the old school 'Hi-Score' displayed on screen).

3) Online World Tour would be nice, but its not essential for me as I just love playing the songs.

2 and 3 are definately needed. I love hi-scores and it would be a good idea so see your personal best before taking on a song.

The youtube upload feature will probably be in the PS3 version as well which will be cool

Defo... I'm gonna get a PS3 camera soon - good for Singstar and Burnout at the moment, but once the YouTube thing gets going I'm sure it will be used more.

what the hell! theres no need for a rockband 2 arghhh, they think we are made of money. We have seen what some games can do with downloadable updates why cant Rockband just do that

Spot on Joe - aside from the aforementioned improvements, it wouldnt bother me in the slightest if Rockband never got a sequel, I love it how it is!

I would much rather they focus resources on better DLC - turning it into a genuine iTunes contender - releasing a few albums a week, offering free download offers from time to time and looking at the pricing structure.

I cannot remember the exact figures now, but IIRC, in Feburary, it was announced that the Rockband DLC had reached $60m in DLC or something.

With the cost to manufacture and market/ship the game, surely Harmonix would be better off getting the improved DLC sorted and maybe working on something else new? The 'band' game genre can only go so far - as GH4 will prove with its near identical setup. The tracklistings will surely determine the future of these sorts of games?

Here here!

All they need to do is release a patch to make the Band World Tour online.

Good article in Edge this month about the RB/GH4/RR battle and how seeing as RB got in first, they are in a strong position. They also mention like I've done - saying who is going to buy even more peripherals - and that they should be cross-compatable.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

they won't patch because of the core 360 - just realised ill have to import RB2 solus if they do allow DLC

Jeez, you crazy pop-teens!

"Monkey's Gone To Heaven" is a classic!

"Where is my mind" was used at the end of Fight Club and is one of the best songs of all time.

"Gouge Away", "Debaser", "Here Comes Your Man" - all classics.

Rock Band, Just. Got. Better!
