Rock Band Thread

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

I'd prefer more Oasis-type indie music to mad Slipknot type tunes.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

come on you got to admit, when you have the music loud to a metal song you cant help but get into it and go nuts (also meaning you miss so many notes)

or is that just me

Tried to do a mystery setlist with my girlfriend playing drums last night. She's only played RB a few times and does okay on drums ... next song is "Metallica - Blackened"

I told her straight away she's in for a tough time and I'm not exagerating when I say it's going to be difficult. Needless to say she failed in less than a minute or something  :(

In other news, "30 Seconds To Mars - Attack" is a killer, having to keep hammering those notes so fast done me in, aching so much after that!

going to pick mine up today. 199€ :(

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

How people play this beyond medium amazes me. I cant even do In Bloom on Hard

where do people place there fingers on the fret? eg, first finger on green or red?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

I was okay on Hard on GH but it's kicking my ass on RB :(

It's the chords especially, I just lose where my fingers are placed and I miss all kinds of notes. LOTS of practice needed for me.

Joe, watch the videos Radiation posted, him and PBoreham are quality on guitar/bass, with Radiation getting 100% on one song!

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

yeh trying to think where my fingers have gone, one point your on red and green chords then straight to yellow and orange and back to green and yellow ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!! (lobs guitar)

The key to this and GH are mastering Hammer-ons and Pull offs

once you master them then it becomes alot easier

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

Nope, the key is actually getting to, and using, the orange fret. Otherwise you can HoPo all you want but you still can't hit that orange note.

Damn orange button.

my stumbling blocks were getting used to using my little finger and being able to move my hand up and down the neck - the only way i got passed them was to force myself to play on hard and aim to just survive the track

Exactly what I'm trying to do. Throw myself in at the deep end and force myself to learn it.

Another thing my girlfriend pointed out, did anyone else get tunnel vision after playing GH for a bit? I rarely get that on RB, and if I do then it's VERY mild. I wonder what's different?

is that where you think somthing is moving after you have played it

I once thought my tv was going up

Jay said his cat was floating

Yep, everything swirls around, makes looking at the carpet and wallpaper pretty interesting :-##

I used to get it bad on GH, after a few songs but I can play LOADS on RB and hardly get it.

Little tip is to play on the level harder than you can do (when practicing) as the fret board moves faster. Then if after a while, you move back down to your level, everything seems really sloooooooooow meaning you can hit the notes :)

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

Does anyone actually do practice? I just keep doing the proper song in Quick Play mode, never used practice to be honest.

I see what you mean about speed tho. I've been playing Hard guitar offline and when I move to medium, it just seems so basic (only four frets) and slow as anything! But I'm still struggling trying to get to grips with the orange fret so I'm stuck in the middle at the moment :(

Oooh a UK band pack!? Sexiiee :coolpink:

Theres a song their somewhere!

No, didnt mean 'practice' as in the practice mode, just when you are mucking around playing one off songs instead of the world tour.

The Orange key is ok - stretch that pinkey! Only song I hate the orange on is (like KRad) Enter Sandman - at the start it has about 60 seconds repition of something like

Red, Red, Red, Green, Yellow (which is fine), then a quick Blue/Orange which is really hard to do - and do consistantly in that part. Yuk... so many times I failed at that bit...30 seconds into the song.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

I'm going to buy my instruments tomorrow.

I feel RB is more close to a real guitar than GH (but I don't play the guitar :) ). GH is more fun but a quest to the best scores.
I've learnt automatically to move my hand on medium while I never had to on GH3.
Now I can move my fingers easily and know where I am, but the slower game makes it easier. But I like it.
I still have to practise more to get better ratings on hard difficulty.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

So do you guys play the orange fret by stretching your little finger to it and not moving the whole of your hand down the guitar?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

I erm... well i move my hand around. A lot of the time i can tell when the notes are going to move up so ill be playing a lot of orange notes and so ill move my hand down the neck and vise versa.

When i was more ridged i started by trying to stretch my little finger but then found it easier to move my hand down and stretch my index finger instead. And when i know there will be a lot of red notes then ill move my whole hand across the neck.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £132.98 total from Play.com

You have to move your hand because most of the time the orange fret is not alone and you don't want to strech all the other fingers. You move your hand and automatisms will be learnt.
You can anticipate the notes after a yellow. The game doens't cheat. It's like a pattern, if it's green move your hand up, if it's orange down. Most of the time you'll be ok.
