Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Worth every penny you paid?

How does a custom playlist work? - Do you pick some songs and then play them back to back?

--

How is the create a character mode?

Does it look like its possible to create any famous people or have any recognizable face paints/attires?

Custom playlist is like that, but limited to 2/3 songs. There are playlist "sets" you can play in the Tour that the developers have made for you. These range from things like "Classic Rock (6 songs)" to one of my faves "Alternative Rock (11 Songs)" - with the likes of Nirvana, NIN, Stone Temple Pilots etc all played back to back.

The final set list is ALL songs played back to back!!! Takes hours and hours apparantly (with no way to save or take a break!)...

As I sing and guitar in my World Tour, I'm kinda stuck as most of the songs I have left to clear I do not know the words too. Guitaring is fine as you just play what you see on the screen - but when you have to also read the lyrics at the top of the screen and be in tune etc to a song you dont know, then its hard!!

Just have to practice each section seperately away from the tour, but not as much fun!

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

I'm getting pissed off with the guitar, I could finish 90% of songs with 100% success with the PS2 guitar - with this PS3 one (and the non-clicky strum bar) you keep getting missed notes in the middle of a heavy-note streak. It's great when the notes are reasonably far apart, but if you've got to hit 16 notes in a fast-tempo bar, or even worse, the middle notes get missed.

Bitching aside though, the world tour mode (only available in it's FULL GLORY in multiplayer) is literally the best game mode I think I've ever played in any game, ever. You win fans by playing well, and you LOSE fans if you quit in the middle of a gig (or play poorly when it's not expected of you). So everything has consequences, and it's not "just a game" in terms of quitting if it's all going pear-shaped. They won't like it.

Lots of songs are locked but you can make a custom playlist if you get bored. Some of them are very hard though. The better you do the more money you get, the more money you get the better forms of transport you can get, the better forms of transport you have the further you can travel.

It's serious stuff and I am fucking in love with it. So much so that playing on my own isn't the same any more. And I can't say that about a lot of games.

It takes a different mindset from GH Jack - you need to 'play' the strumbar like a real guitar string. I.e. alternate up/down 'strums' - flicking your fingers over it.

The best example of how to practice would be to download 'Wonderwall' by Oasis as this is played virtually like the real song on guitar. 99% all chords and you have to strum like an acoutstic guitar. Once you get a feel for it, it feels 100 times better than the GH experience.

I was playing RB last night for a while hoping to catch some of you online. I had to give up after a while though - I'm a pretty bad nail biter :( And my 'strumming' fingers were hurting...

EDIT: Just had another thought... do you keep 'fresh' batteries in the controller? Once they start wearing down, it misses notes I think due to the lack of signal.

I brought a £10 recharge set from ASDA so always got fully charged ones ready to go!

Just fucking rub it in for those of us who don't have it Jack, you cunt.

Every penny. You get what you pay for, and this is the most fun I've ever had with a game. It feels wrong calling it a game, it's so far from anything I've ever played, even Guitar Hero. In World Tour mode it is out of this world, the work you have to put in (as a team, one person can't carry you) to get fans, to get roadies, to get equipment. And you can even design your band's logo and your clothing - we had a design in our heads anyway but to see it on the drums, on our shirts, IN THE CROWD - just fucking incredible.

I like the Band Name in lights behind you on the good stages!

You first...

Gomito, I'm on the guitar, she's on the drums. It's so funny when the nephew calls, he is as jealous as fuck. He asks me every week when it's out over here. :D

Jack I reckon you should record yourself playing/singing a song. Would be funny!
Oh Jack, please, please, you've got to. Oh my god, this needs to be done!

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Jack, Jay or Paul record any songs while doing the drums and wonderwall with the guiter :))

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Ah go on then, seeing as you asked Tim. ;)

I'll get a recording done of me on the guitar and the missus on the drums. It'll be a week or two though, got to practice first.

Shocking how other games become in comparison, I have a rotation of 360 games that I love and after playing this for a week they're not as fun any more. There's a list of eight games in my sig for this month, and I'm not really bothered about any of them now. You can't imagine how much fun world tour is.

Only downside is that the world tour mode in all it's beauty is multiplayer-only, so while the missus is away it's not the same... But they've done this purposefully I think, and good on them.

Been rumours that they will patch the World Tour so it works online. Just get a cheap mic-stand JB!!!

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

I may be given a free one by the bro-in-law seeing as he's in an actual band, but we'll see. Even so I think it will be a bit hard having to do two things at once!

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Amazon are listing the 360 version of RB for a 9th May release in EU

After all this waiting i think i might just throw in the towel and leave buying this --- GTA4 will be out before this and once thats here i doubt i'll eject that disc for a few months anyway.

You almost had me on ebay today jack but the prices are about £99.99 and then the cheapest delivery charge was £24 (From a uk seller) --- but the one thing putting me off is i dont want a damn faulty guitar or drum kit like i had over and over and over with GH - i think in the end the people in gamestation thought i was taking the piss asking for a new one yet again.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

£99?!!!

I had to pay £180, if you see it for £99 BUY IT and then plonk it on eBay for £200 if you don't like it (which wouldn't happen - GTA IV may be great but trust me, it won't be as satisfying as winning 40,000 fans in one gig when you and your band nail a song you love, it's more than a game).

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

I've seen 99 for the Drum Kit RB only, you sure Radiation mate?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Yeah - although its gone up now...

Brand New Rock Band Special Edition - RockBand PS3

In The UK For Next Day Delivery - Get Yours Now
£117.00
£24.99 P&P

the next closest prices are from the US at around £120 with £50 P&P - but then would you have to pay import tax/customs on top when its delivered to you?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Seriously, if you see it for less than £180 (AT LEAST), buy it, because if you put it on for £200 (inc P&P) Buy It Now, you will sell it.

I watched a few that started at 1p go up to £200 so I don't think you'll get it much cheaper than that, but if you can, don't think twice.

I wouldn't order from outside of the UK though - Jaygrim was stung with £40 import tax.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

im bidding on it now so hopefully no one will out bid me - and i expected the import tax from a US seller...... i had the same with the japanese psp i imported.

But then again... buy it now at £119 - P&P at £40 and then a £40 tax is still £199

what are the chances that USA content will work on the PAL versions come the PAL launch?

Yep, which is why I said it's not worth getting it from the US. You're better off trying to get it from the UK, you may get a lower/higher tax price depending on what side of the bed someone in Heathrow wakes up on. I've been charged import tax on every single thing I've bought from outside the UK, whether it's been marked as a gift or not. Some astronomical charges too. I wouldn't do it again.

I think it's 50/50 really. A song is a song, the code is all there, it just depends on if it's region-specific code. I wouldn't have thought Harmonix would have done that, but EA may well want them to.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Jack how good is this game? My missus is nagging me about it - we are both lovers of music and have seen a million band over the years.
