Lassana Diarra is the new Makelele though.
 
Also Gago has been given the No.5 shirt so he won't be sold either. Hopefully he'll step his game up next season.

Are there any other alternatives to Alonso, preferably Spanish too?
 
No spanish alternatives for central midfielder for now.
There are speculations about DeRosi and Aquilani, but I don't think they are realistic targets.
 
De Rossi is closer to Alonso than Aquilani but your right I don't their realistic targets.

Seems like its Alonso or nothing then.

:LOL: We'll see how they do, Ronaldo looked lost for most of the game yesterday, Saying that though the great bit of skill to beat the 2 men and win the pen was class. He's missing Wayne though ;))
 
He did look lost, but it's his 2 game. I'd give him more time.

On the other hand, Granero is awesome. :D
 
Granero won't play if they sign Alonso, though. I can't understand why are they buying Alonso when they have Granero there. He can be a good creative midfielder playing alongside Lass. And they still have Sneiijder and Guti who can play there. But Madrid is in a signing spree trying to waste the biggest loan ever done to a football club by banks, so they will sign everything that moves.

I watch the match the other day and by now it confirms what I think about Madrid: they will play exactly like last year, very dangerous upfront and very weak backwards, the team always part in two, and Ronaldo, Kaka & Benzema are great offensive players, but won't help to heal that.

That said, Madrid and Bercelona will fight to win the league while the rest of the teams seem to be miles away, like last year.
 
:LOL: I think next season they won't be upto much but the season after they'll be a bigger threat after the team starts to gel.
 
I got to watch Real Madrid vs Juventus today. It appears that Real Madrid's style of play hasn't changed at all. I've been following them on and off for almost 4 years now, and they just never seem to display good team football. Even when they had Zidane in the 05-06 season.

Today, I saw the same Madrid, disconnected and inefficient attack. It takes much more than having powerful guns upfront to create a powerful attack. Raul and Benzema were recieving close to no service. Not being a hater, but the only time I realized Ronaldo on the pitch was when he was on the ground cringing a couple of times. No contribution to the team play, not really even a bother. But I can't blame him since there was any organized attack for him to be helping. Albeit, Kaka was missing from the lineup, but I don't feel he will impact their gamestyle as well. He'll just be more of the same. These guys need possesion and service to shine, and they're simply missing the computers behind them to give just that.

I don't see Madrid being the revolutionary team it is planned to be...YET. I do believe if they sign Xabi Alonso, their game style can be changed and they can actually display some good soccer. But until then, I feel sorry for Kaka, and Benzema, and Ronaldo(actually, no wait...screw the little bastard. now i'm being a hater), and whoever else they sign as a big star.
 
So admiting that this Real is closed for signings, iyo is it capable of forming a good squad or will it have the same success that the other "Galcticos" had? just a money maker machine or a La Liga/CL winning team? how much time do you guys think this squad needs to completely solidify? And the ultimate question, can it be superior to Barcelona?
 
No, they'll not touch Barca for some time I don't think.

Their signings all have massive egos, and won't work well in a formation that will surely be rediculous.

Barca have a settled squad, with some of the top players in their respective positions in the world, and then when all else fails, just give the ball to Messi or Iniesta and leave them to produce a little bit of magiv.
 
Ay, Real this season will probably get to the SF or QF of the CL and 2nd in the league. They'll need a season to get their act together but as you said about Barca they'll just give it to Ronaldo or Kaka to produce something.

Among those, the Bolds attack and the Italics defend.
Not honestly seeing, how they are going to cope with such a low number of players defending, but we'll see.
 
I think Alonso will put in a shift defensively. Kaka made his debut yesterday and I think he's going to be vital. Kaka and Ronaldo linked very well (its expected really) and Benzema last night but it was only Toronto so we'll have to see how they do against decent opposition.
 
I watched the toronto fc games this friday and versus a low quality/level team their defense had some immense gap and have given many oportunity to score some EASY goal that obviously a team like this mls side didnt convert. Defense will kill real this season, plus they really play some Evident football, with no real creativity and mouvement, hope it gets better for them cause I dont see them winning a cl with this team, plus once injuress get trough it will be even more dificult for them.
 
A shame he is so prone to injuries, but for the Madrid style of play, Robben is more necessary than Ronaldo (and more effective, for sure).

In what way? Surely you don't mean hes more productive than Ronaldo?! Robbens always lacked end product. Ronaldo has become a robotic end product machine. If you mean general play I'd say Ronaldos just much better in every way possible apart from close control.
 
Im glad we didn't. Robben and Ronaldo in the early days was the opposite. Ronaldo lacked the end product and Robben was doing fantastic for Chelsea. We would have probably shipped out Ronaldo with their only being space for 1 "dribbler" type.
 
yep madrid lost their money on buyin both kaka and ronaldo...cuz from whats ive seen its like playin with a men down once kaka or ronaldo have the ball, plus I think robben is way better than ronaldo on the wing since is more creative and have more mouvement than ronaldo, Real would had been a IMMENSE team if they'd only bough kaka instead of both ronaldo and kaka, plus id bought david villa over benzemaa and this team would have been killer.

I doubt we'dve sold Ronaldo, I doubt we ever would've if he didn't want away from the club. Fergie liked him that much.

Robben on the left, Ronaldo on the right, both interchanging. It's a frightening thought really.
