Real Madrid Thread

You're right but Drenthe and Marcelo are shite defenders, also Arbeloa is good but only "good".

Real is paying the bill of bad choices.

Drenthe was linked to Benfica today so it might happen.

Drenthe wasn't given a real chance though. He barely played last year. Real just like to change players.

That's not entirely true.Almost everytime Madrid gave him a chance he was beyond awful. When he was winger he would constantly slip or lose the ball. When he was a LB every half-decent right winger would run him ragged. He was energetic but he lacked any quality what-so-ever in his game.

The rumored price is €4m, no info wheather we would want/have a buy-back clause.

Coentrao doens't bring something diferent than Marcelo.

I know it's wrong to judge player solely on his World Cup but Coentrão was phenomal both in defense and attack. But after all just like Drenthe - he's not a full-back and I'm glad Benfica are realizing that and went after Armand Traore.

The Gago rumours are laughable. He was one of the first players who were made untranserable from Mourinho.José clearly saw something in him during the training sessions.I think the problem with his quality of display was how the team was playing and his position. His best performances for Real came when he was playing very deep, just in front of the defense, even Mahamadou was ahead of him.Last year he was playing alongside Alonso, ofter transiting in the CM position - and that's not his strenght.

Rafa <3 denies Man United rumours saying “These statements are invented; I have not spoken to any English newspaper. I want to fight for my place as usual.”

Ozil is going to run this team when ever Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuian are playing.

I can only imagine the thoughts that rifle through Jose's head on the bench during the games. Very little team ethic between them.

Ozil is his key player to me. We should have signed him this summer! He's doing the important work in the offensive side of the game, while Khedira and Alonso do the deffensive work. Though I don't know if Cristiano will accept very weel Ozil being so important in the team. We hope he does for the good of football.

They seemed very wasteful upfront. No wonder Mourinho wanted a striker. I guess he would have loved van Nistelrooy to stay.

Marcelo is turning into something great though but his marking is awful. Watch out Bastos.

Real want Mourinho to give 100% to Real and with the money they paid for him to release him from Inter and salary, I would have been really surprised if they said yes. Also some fans would not accept the situation.

It would be really really generous if they eventually allow him.

I think you may be.

Backwards?! I don't know about that... but yeah there is a lot of room for improvement and at times he can be quite frustrating.

To say he's gone backwards though is very harsh and not something I personally see.

He's not gone backwards. He's just no longer in a team that makes the most of his abilities. In terms of raw talent, he's still arguably the best in the world but just like Messi at Barca (as opposed to playing for Argentina), he needs to be in a system that suits him and have the right players around him.
That second goal against Bolton is still amazing to watch.

2006/07 Ronaldo was far, far more exciting to watch. More of a winger than what he is now but also much more of a team player, drove forward into space more often, loved taking on defenders etc. Stylistically he's gone backwards, yes.

Modern football is more and more about the team as a unit than individual efforts.

Teams need to maximize the best of their players. For instance di Maria looked awful in the WC because the numpty in charge decided he should play central midfield.

Ronaldo could be played as a centre forward or off the central striker with two wingers either side of him.

Or give him back to us. Atleast we know how to use his properly. I'm starting to feel he's never gonna match his achievements with us at Madrid.

I completely disagree with the blaming Real style of play for his change. I think the media or critics actually got to him and in turn he's turned his game into productivity > overall package. Rune Messi is a quite a bit better than Ronaldo, I'm not sure Ronaldo warrants comparisons any more either

He's not. He just doesn't suck with it anymore like he used to a few years ago and has actually improved it so it's now not bad. He still relies on his left-foot like 90% of time.

There's still a lot of room for improvement as far as his right-foot is concerned.

The fact that he never uses his right foot doesn't make him bad with it.

He's an exelent header as well, shame he's small. Obviously there is a lot of room for improvement sinze he's just 23 but where is the top for this dude?

Sorry for the off topic, i'm voting Costinha btw.
