Real Madrid Thread

Sulph, may I ask why? :)

I think that with the recent signing of Sergio Ramos Real Madrid have a very good team to face the season. Surely much better than the one they had two years ago.

Remember that Real Madrid was the best team in Spain from Christmas to June (since Luxemburgo arrived), and that they have managed to be champions past seasons with worse figures than they got last year.

I can see many rotations this year between some good players. Now they can alternate two players in every position, and still have a very competent team. This is something they did not have two years ago, when the defender midfielders were Guti and Beckham (?).

As of now:

-------------------Casillas/Lopez---------------------

------Helguera/Pavon/Arbeloa-------Ramos/Woody/Mejia--------

Salgado/Diogo---------------------------------R.Carlos/R.Bravo

--------------Gravesen/P.Garcia/De La Red-----------------

Beckham/Baptista/Robinho-----------------ZIdane/Baptista/Guti

------------------Zidane/Raul/Baptista--------------------

----------Ronaldo/Robinho------Raul/Guti--------------

They now have plenty of option. Two years ago, when Monaco dropped Madrid from UCL, they just had Helguera and Pavon as defenders, Makelele was gone, Morientes was gone... You cannot win a tournament without defenders. Madrid last year had a very solid defense (third team less scored) and a powerful attack. Only Barcelona were amazing. :)

With Cicinho from January and Robinho accustomed to Europe, I can see Real doing very well.

I watched your opening game of the season and although the score wasn't so convincing I think the performance of your team I think was pretty good.

They way they play will be very effective in Europe but I'm not sure about La Liga.

A bet, thats all :p

I had Juve Sevilla Real Madrid and Inter,

Real were about to screw it all up ;) But then Raul saved me.

Samuel was sold because Real Madrid were going to bring in Robinho, and because they already had Jonathan Woodgate and were expecting to sign Ramos. So they needed a non-EU slot for Robinho, and they thought:

Samuel<--->Sergio Ramos
Owen<---->Robinho

Money given for Ramos is money taken from Samuel. The same for Owen-Robinho. So Real Madrid gains in youth and keeps a future star: Robinho.

Plus it seems they've just signed Lampard. What a great team. ;)

I know its like 99.99% chance of not happening but imagine if it did? How much of a blow would that be?

Great news about Ramos.

Also, it's not just Cicinho who is coming in, we got Fillipe too who is a future left back.

what was the point of selling Owen....he was like your most reliable striker only played ½ the matches Ronaldo played and scored significant goals.....Robinho is one heck of a striker but he's too lightweight and he lacks clinical finishing

The point was that Real Madrid had already signed Robinho, in whom they trust more than in Owen. Real Madrid sells Owen, (doubling money invested on him), buys Robinho. It is hard to have four top strikers and just two places where to put them. Owen wanted to leave. Real Madrid was indeed very happy with the player, and was only bound to sell him should a great offer come. Well, it has come, so... so long, Michael.

I'd rather see Owen happy at Newcastle United than sad here. He's been a complete gentleman, and that has been very appreciated at Madrid: both the fans and club managers will miss him, but that was the only way to go. You cannot keep Michael Owen heating the bench for a whole season 'just in case', although the original plan was to rotate between Raúl, Owen and Ronaldo, so they could rest and you'd have two great strikers in case one got injured. Not letting him leave when he wanted and sitting him on the bench would have been cruel, especially in a pre-WC season.

Makes good business sense for RM, also having a frontline from the same nation helps understanding.....doesn't bode well for other teams in the WC though.

Only one thing I didn't agree with Gedtillo - Raul to me is no longer a great striker. I feel he has been "carried" for the last two seasons, living on his reputation. Although a national idol, he is the one they should have got rid of.

Madrid should never have let Owen go, IMO they now are left with one 20+ goals a season man (Ronaldo)The money issue isnt really the point as Madrid still owed money to Newacatle for the Woodgate deal hensce the high price!

Heck, what do we know? Something has to explain how Owen got to score so many goals last season yet couldn't find a place in the team. Was it because he can't speak Spanish or Portugese?

Its all politics mate. There would be a public uproar if Raul was dropped to the bench and Owen won't sell you as much shirts as the other contenders.

Another bad game on Sunday, I think its obvious the team is not balanced for one the need to by both Baptista and Robinho?????No bye one (prefarable robinho and dont sell Owen). The new defender , I have not a lot of knowledge about the guy but for Real to spend that kind of money for someone so relativly unkown in european football has to b a strange decision. Three losses in one week is no good for a team trying to win La Liga and the CL.

veo por aqui demasiado vikingo VIKINGOS NO !!! Dejar de parlotear tanto sobre el trampa$ que son un atajo de cerdos VIKINGOS NO !!

I've said this before. Theres too many egos at Madrid which is why that team will never work. This is also the main reason why Chelsea on the other hand are doing so well.

Just goes to show, not only do you need talent, you also need a strong team ethic, which the Madrid playboys clearly don't have.

Hang on a minute its not all that bad they didnt play that bad against Espanyol, They look good going forward, for me its still about there shoddy defence!
