I will totally agree on one thing Zidane wont sign, but I wouldnt knock back Govou or Pires. As i said at the end of the transfer deadline if we havent signed at least a couple of players of this quality then come to me and say "I Told You So" remember you never thoouth PLG was going to sign. Oh and you thought last season you won the title a good month before the end of the season. Even before that in Seville.... I could go on ;)

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

Pires and Govou would be some signings, but their wages would kill any deal. Even on a Bosman, Pires is going to be on something like 60k a week, do you honestly think Rangers are going to sanction that kind of wage? Govou is contracted till 2008, so there'd be a hefty transfer fee involved before you even begin to talk about a wage, which again I think would be too much anyway.

So much of it is reliant on Champions' League qualification as well, if you don't make it the money has to be found from somewhere else.

Personally, I also think Pires could easily cut it at Arsenal for a couple of more seasons. The only reason he's on a Bosman is because they won't offer him more than a 1-year deal, club policy with over-30s, he wants a two-year deal. Govou must be looking at going to one of the big three leagues at this stage in his career, however much I think certain folk got OTT when they rag on the SPL, that'd be a step down for Govou and he's got to be looking to step up?

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

I heard a guy on one of the radion stations mentioning about the possibility of getting Makelele and Essien on loan. :lmao:

Tbh, it's pie in the sky stuff now. PLG is a good manager, but our league will hold him back, no matter how much clout he thinks he has. He can maybe go for the younger upcoming players who maybe want a foothold in British football for a year or two, but nothing amazing will be brought here. Pires, no-chance, he's a cert to leave, maybe for a return to France, although supposedly he's wanting a go at La Liga.

Govou is okay, but nothing special, but they still want around £6m+ for him, Rangers are reportedly only got about £10m to spend and no-one's even confirmed if that will include wages, even dependant on how many players they ship out.

As for Zidane..................:lmao:

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

The Zidane thing was said as a joke and some people just took it too seriously. There's no chance he'd sign. There's no chance he could even be good in the SPL! You don't get time on the ball like you do on the continent. He'd be clattered within 2 seconds!

Govou and Pires are more realistic though I think Pires will stay at Arsenal.

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

Aye, he would have a sore jaw with all the laughing at players trying to boot him, believe me when I say he would win the league for you lot every season he was there.

The guy is unbelievable..........still.

If he's still playing for France at the WC, he'll still be there best player.

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

A few years ago the likes of the De Boer brothers played for Rangers, I'm pretty sure they didn’t get the same wages as when they were at other Top European clubs at the need of their Career. So I wouldn’t expect them to get the same rate of pay if they moved. Pires was talking about going to Galatasaray if you remember and I’m sure he wouldn’t have got the same rate of pay then.

I think the truth of the matter is you don't want to believe that we can sign some players of class when all that’s round the corner for yourselves is the likes of Kenny Miller.

To say Govou is ok is a tad rich Id say, what do you class as ok? He would be a great player in the SPL and he has said he wants a move away from Lyon at some point of his career. The guy has got 16 international caps so I guess that’s ok for a country like France. Also the price of £6M compared with players like Sutton, Hartson and Ferguson Id say that’s a fair enough price.

Govou is a good player then, he ain't what I would describe as a great or class player. Not sure what your gibbering about Hartson and Sutton, I'm more than certain they've proved every penny of their worth 10 times over, and every Rangers fan I've spoken to wish they had them more than us.

Don't tell me when you watch Lyon (if you do? setanta subscriber?) that Govou sticks out like a sore thumb, as he sure as shit doesn't. But he's got pace and can whip in a good ball, but believe me when I say he wouldn't get in the Celtic team on our wings and he wouldn't get in before Burke either (he plays on the right wing fyi).

Kenny Miller will do a job in Scotland, but not sure about Europe, he's full of running, but I have a feeling that we're gonna be cursing him in front of goal as he ain't a scorer. You do have a point about the type of player we're bringing in, but I'll wait to see what happens over the summer and wait until I see who arrives at Ibrox.

Ronald De Boer btw was the 2nd highest earner behind Henrik Larsson, so not sure where you get your information from. If you think Pires will come to Scotland (his agent has already rubbished the story anyway) for £10-£20k a week you obviously don't know as much about footy as I thought you did, btw Nicolas Anelka doesn't seem like the person who would play in Turkey for pittance, do you?

you got it in one

remember timmy told us no way could we get PLG he was too good for us
PLG arrives, timmy then tells us he is not that good and will leave in 1 year
they are afraid, they are still hurting from helicopter sunday and they will always hurt from it LOL they know that their current team is quite frankly rotten and that Chesney is not a good enough manager, timmy is running scared, 51-39 we welcome the chase
still at least they have a rangers reject to look forward too in the summer LOL, Celtic are downsizing big time much like Rangers did with Eck, and the tims know it.

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

Rix has been sacked at Hearts
got a job at sellic boys club allegedley

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

No surprise there.

Romanov needs his head looked at, he has cost Hearts the chance of the title and could well cost them 2nd place. The Burley fiasco was stupidity of the highest order.

The reference to Sutton and Hartson as the point they were signed they were only good players and they have done a job in the SPL but wouldnt call them world class. So why Govou can't at least be of the same SPL value I dont see the problem.

Yea maybe a fair point is that we have Burke but how many times has Burke been crocked or injured so Id say he clearly still has to fully develope as a first team player.

I clearly think Pires would get more than £20 k a week , but I dont think he would get anywhere near £60k , would he be worth almost £40k to any team Id say so . And your right hs agent said its not happening , when has an agent ever lied

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

anyway aint it great to be a bear right now
our glorious club being linked to zindane, pires, govou etc and knowing we have europes top manager coming to us in the summer, good times ahead for us. its like the souness days all over again, remember those days timmy ha ha

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

Oh aye it's great, you're only staring non-CL qualification in the face and Celtic are running away with the league.

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

could be worse
we could have been out of europe before the schools went back lol
and we all know this is the worst team to win the league in 50 years
last 16 of the CL is bigger than winning the SPL

It's not that it's just that having tasted Europe, by which I mean reaching a final and coming so close to making it out of the group stage, after the state of our European exploits pre-MON, Scottish football depresses the hell out of me at times. Back in the days when we were pish, the target of winning the league again satisfied me, but now as I said, I'm not nearly as bothered these days whether we win (last year) or lose. It's 'small-fry' IMO, I can't get excited about it whereas when we play in Europe I look forward to the games for weeks in advance.

this classicd person must have downsized his ambitions since his team lost the league last year :applause: now the league is good enough for celtic :lmao: :lmao:

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

In a year of transition, being 23 points and counting ahead of Rangers is fine by me.

"The last 16 is better than winning the league", away and get me some of what you've been sniffing! What are you gonna do next year then, when the league is all you've got (the UEFA Cup is shite, apparently, or has that changed now it's what you'll be in?)

How times change, I could be here all day if I quoted everything someone said in the past which didn't turn out quite as expected:
McLeish showed at Hibs and Motherwell he can bring in players on a tight budget, I am sure he will spend his cash wisely and improve the team.
23 and counting.

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

last 16 of the CL is better than winning the SPL fact even neil lennon said that getting out the group stages of the CL would have been better than the sheville final lol

by your own admission celtic are pish as the league satisfys you now lol wont get any argument from that one dont know why your quoting other peoples opinions as if they are mine? weirdo mcleish did a great job up until this season winning 2 league titles on the last day against the dhims will never be forgotten and you will always always feel the pain from last season till the day you die

we will be in the CL next year no doubt about it the jambos aint gonna win much more games dont you read the papers they are a club falling apart maybe wee fergus will appear and save them (ie build them a stadium that will need millions spent on it yearly to keep it standing lol)

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

Sweden international Kim Kallstrom has admitted that he would be tempted by an offer from Rangers.

The Rennes midfielder has two years remaining on his current deal with the French club but new Gers boss Paul Le Guen has reportedly eyed a move for Kallstrom in the summer.

"I have heard about the interest from Rangers," Kallstrom told Expressen. "They are a club that are willing to invest.

"Le Guen is a well respected coach in France, a top coach.

"It is flattering that I am in the picture."

Re: The Rangers Thread - PAUL LE GUEN!

Respect to Davie Cooper, he will be missed!

Kallstrom would be a very good signing for the club, I’m sure we inquired about him before only for him to sign a new contract with Rennes. Just shows you what a top class manager can do to attracting new players.

And Hearts third manager of the season cant be bad for us. Romanov is feckin bushed, but I wont complain.
