I just saw the highlights of the match. How can you complain of the referees? Benfica didn't won the match cause the players were too incompetent to score the 6+ goal chances the team had.

I didn't really see anything that was out of the ordinary. the penalty was fair, and there was still another penalty favorable to Boavista (hand ball by nelson) that wasn't allowed.

Didn't watch anything of the Sporting match.

EDIT: Just remembered that there was a penalty favorable to benfica (Leo) that wasn't allowed by the referee. And I'm not even sure it would be a penalty cause it could be considered dangerous play and benfica would get a indirect free kick in the box. But I don't know, i've seen it happen both ways before... so anybodys guess.

Revan my friend, you need to watch it again. It's clear the influence of the referee in the result. In the first half Benfica was awful. No discussion about Edcarlos' penalty. The second one (Nelson hand ball) is very doubtful. In second half Benfica improved a lot and probably made the best game of the season. Then mr. Lucílio Baptista appears. First, he didn't see a clearly fault by Mateus in Petit (following he made another tackle in Leo). In the end, Mateus (again!) put his hand in the ball but Lucílio decided to continue the match.
In a certain point you're right. Benfica players failed a lot. But the referee failed too!
Anyway, we continue second in the league.

About Sporting, they played very well in the first half but in the second Braga totaly dominated the game. Matheus scored a goal which wasn't legal in referee's opinion. Unbelievable decision, I didn't see any fault or any offside in the play.
Linz had three ocasions to score but he missed all of them. Yannick Djálo had a great performance by scoring two goals.

I don't want to find excuses for the results of those matches. I just want to refer facts. No excuses, only facts.

Last week he found, somehow, a penalty for Porto against Belenenses that wasn't clearly penalty (even tv football shows said it wasn't clearly penalty several times) and he doesn't see the penaltys in favor of benfica? Something is very wrong in this, and like Luis Filipe Vieira said, somehow some1 is throwing us down the list and like that its difficult to play.

Nobody could agree that it wasn't a penalty on the porto game. some said yes others no. That shows that the referee can't be blamed because it was a very hard decision.

Oh already seen the Sporting higlighst. You'r right, it was a clear goal, but they should gave scored their chances. Sporting had 3 goals chances on the entire game and scored 2, Braga had about 6. Again if you can't score how can you expect to win?

Benfica only need to look to themselves not the referee. Benfica could have won that game if they weren't incompetent in front of goal.
Good teams on the long run, league, need to be able to play well enough to counter the referee's blunders.

You might be thinking about Porto. Porto was strong enough win games even when the referees (and linesman) were giving unexistent offsides, not giving clear penaltys and so on. Referees were as bad to you as they were to us.
When Porto lost to Sporting, (2-0) Porto had only themselves to blame when we failed 6+ clear goal chances. And we could complain about the ref, but it wasn't his fault it was Porto's fault.

Just some examples that, altough I agree that refs in Portugal are crap, they can't be blamed also for the incompetence of the teams playing.

Totaly agree. Benfica needs a deep directive change. If we had a president like Pinto da Costa we probably would be one of the most powerful clubs in the world.

A good refereeing is essential.
Neither Chelsea couldn't comeback from that ghost goal of Luis Garcia in Champions League some years ago...

Totaly agree again. Benfica players are crap. I remember a clearly oportunity of Di Maria just in front of the keeper. Incredible! If it was Lisandro...

Everything is crap here. Only FC Porto and the National Team saves the honor of the portuguese football.

Amazingly though, Benfica did a good job a few years back (Koeman) and that is making the portuguese ranking (UEFA) maintain it's place. Problem is that If next year If Portuguese teams don't make a good run in the CL we will lose our spots in the CL going down to just 2 teams and the second will have to play a playoff first. Unless sporting wins the UEFA CUP. (Not happening, Bayern will take it).

TSO. Benfica have quite a few excellent players, I wouldn't mind having old geezer Leo or Katsouranis or Adu. (what is wrong, this guy clearly has quality)

Im not saying that Sporting is the favourite in the UEFA cup, but we have good chances...
Seriously i have seen Bayern played against Getafe and they have played like crap (in the second half they were dominated by the spanish)...

I can't understand how Romania have stolen our spot in UEFA Ranking. Anyway, good luck to Sporting (I'm a huge fan of Rangers and Fiorentina but it will be great if Sporting win the UEFA Cup).

Revan. Benfica have a few good players but don't have a bench. A team is not only a question about eleven players. No no. You need to have good players to replace the first squad. Example: FC Porto - Fucile (Cech), Paulo Assunção (Kaz), Tarik (Mariano), Lisandro (Farias).

Of course i'm not sure. But they have a near world class team.
And getafe is making a terrific season so it comes to no surprise.

But I hope you win it. It's just the you blew your chance a few years back. And you had a better team in those days IMO.

Yes, its true. I'm not kidding. You still don't believe? I know its hard to believe, friends of Evo-Web but its true. Tonight Benfica incredibly lost at Estadio da Luz against Académica de Coimbra, a team who plays to stay at Liga Bwin.

Amazing game! I may say this cous i changed the channel after the 2nd goal and god i thnx you for taking that decision, just lost stupid benfica making another awful game with lots of opportunities lost and not a single goal to Academicas 3, how come no1 calls this Amazing???
Btw, the good this is that if Vitoria and Sporting win their games we'll be in 4th place, isn't that Amazing too??

Well, after all of this Porto scored a illegal goal and wins the match against Vitoria de Setubal. I actually wanted them to win so that they could scare the competition. :)

Anyway the comentators should take their red tinted glasses and STFU! Calling the first Porto goal illegal!?

Crazy game today.

Sporting won Benfica in the Cup classic semi-final.

At half time Sporting was losing the game by 2-0 but still managed to overcome Benfica by scoring 5 goals.
the game ended 5-3 in favour of Sporting.
In the second half, Sporting managed to get ahead by scoring 3 goals, then benfica equalized the game for the 3-3 then Sporting killed the game with another 2 goals.

Great game. :applaud: Congrats Sporting.

See you in the final in May.
