Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

@goalgerd: very nice video!

@topic: wasn't there any special PES news supposed to come out today, the 19th of july!?

great posts by vitalic and drekkard (just to name my top poster). lot of things you wrote made me think about my view on pes related stuff (plus i see the technical part of PES much clearer now, thx sindii). this makes it even harder for me to complain about the stuff i dont like in PES08/09 ;)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Ahhh Interchangeable kits...... 4 long years ago they gave us that "souvenir" as someone else posted and they decided to remove it. The same way they removed teams so they could place whatever team qualified for that upcoming world cup. Does anybody remember the gameplay speed bar in WE4? (or was it WE3: FV? I can't remember) That might be asking for too much, and of course, with online gaming you can't have something like that anymore.

There are definitely many variables that add to my perception of this "lack of evolution" of the series. Chris mentioned how we are actually growing older and the game doesn't have the same impact in our lives. It's very true. We are also growing older of the game as well. Because we haven't noticed this evolution. And what's even worse is that we've noticed the change in other Konami games, other sports games, and the actual competition (FIFA). The same aging engine has been around for too long. Unfortunately, a next-gen based engine will always be a risky move. Unfortunately, Konami understands that they still need to support the PS2 market. Unfortunately, Konami realizes that multiple localized releases is profitable. I don't really know for sure but I can't explain otherwise why in the past we've had WE, PES, WE:FV/WE:FE/WE:LE, WE-Jleague, etc all in one year.

I'm aware that I sound like I'm exaggerating when I talk about this lack of evolution but I get disappointed every time I see the same lame free kick engine or pk engine or the same lame movement of the keepers when they have the ball. I remember it took them years to add overarm throws and underarm rolls to the Ps2 version of the game. In fact, I was very glad when they added to option to have the keeper drop the ball to his feet. I'm actually glad they are finally doing something about the PK. Yes, I know, it's a feature that rarely happens in a game but why make it dull when it can be more exciting and it has been relatively the same. (a different keeper camera and various PK kick animations are not exactly an evolution.)
I understand that animations, ball physics, and the collisions systems are very important if not, the most important part of the game but there are certain aspects of the game that need a lot of work, and most likely, should be done by a separate crew. I'm talking about the in-game environment. It is pitiful and has always been. I remember patching my WE with the current Solidus chants patch and one could notice the difference. The players don't emit any sort of sound whatsoever, only the fans, ref, and the ball. Players yelling, or asking for the ball. They don't need to be loud but loud enough to notice. These little things add value to the game. Wouldn't it be awesome that out of a sudden you hear a loud firecracker and the fans for no apparent reason going nuts and LOUD? Even better, you depend on the score of another game in ML and the crowd is loud b/c of the score of a different game.

I'm sorry for the little rant but something so.. trivial. But something like interchangeable kits... made me remember of the fun days. IMO PES2009 is not a bad game but it's not game that matched our expectations. PES2010 will probably be better but doesn't sound like a radical change in the right direction. Seabass has always bitched about having a small team and it seems he has a decent sized one this year but we don't know how long ago he's had it and for how long he'll have it.

Totally can relate to this post

You would think over the years that a title called Pro "Evolution" Soccer would keep what made it great and yet add to it. i mean Evolution comes under..

  1. A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form.
  2. The process of developing. Gradual development.
Now as much as i love PES and would still happlily pick up a pad and play PES 2009( not as bad as 2008) nothing has stayed.

The R1 feint dropped and now coming back in. The free kick taker who(in previous games) reacted first for the rebound who then doesn't and who will now do so in 2010.
Snow it's in, it's out now its a downpour. Variable weather from PES5.

These things should be a gimme in the next gen versions:Y1

I alway imagined football game to have players shouting for balls, instructions etc that you could have instead of commentary ie when a tackle is made but no foul, you should be able to here the dismay of players etc but actually like it's coming from the pitch and your sat at the touchline!

Another thing I noticed in some posts is people commenting on passes being flat, this is because of how animations work.
Could you imagine the amount of pass animations etc if the ball could bobble at various heights and you could hit it at these height!
Why do you think you do headers at certain heights, volleys at other and traps at others? Because it's using fixed heights so they can cheat and cut alot of the work out, with the human eye not noticing while playing.
Check some slow replays on PES and you'll see players shuffle slightly up to balls to trap them perfectly from passes during a run or shooting when the ball may not even be colliding with the foot etc.
Konami need to get an IK system or some type of procedural animation working along side it's animations to have totally free ball movements and player interaction.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

@sindii it's refreshing to read your posts.

I've always wondered about this. To truely free up the ball would be immense in a football game. I hope to be alive when that game releases.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

 From where...

some offical sources or reliable like WENB. if not, never mind!

i never ask or read about one thing: will there be any support for the pseye (video or audio) in the future, not neccesarry for pes2010!? maybe a simple use in online mp (audio chat). or even more advanced for calling the ball (insted of pressing R2 repeatly). yeah, i like my pseye!

@sindii it's refreshing to read your posts.

it really is.

Yes, the sound should be some sort of balance b/w watching the game on TV, at the stadium, and being part of the game. I'm also not talking about continuous chanting which actually sounds repetitive.

The bottom line is that I'm not expecting any sort of improvement in the sound aspect of the game.

I recall reading that FIFA used FK and IK. I googled it to confirm this and I found that FIFA '07 advertised using FK/IK for their animations.

There is some real advanced shit going on these days, if soccer games could implement these it would be amazing.
Imagine taking a shot into a corner, it takes a wicked deflection, the keeper has already dived, currently the keeper doesn't react to this but they should by sticking out a flailing arm or leg dynamically etc.

There are so many things missing or should be planned for these games to truly start benefiting from next-gen. We should have simple things like instead of tapping a trigger button after a pass to get your man running forward, why not trigger + a face button which would have your player either run forward, diagonally or a step back ready for a layoff to shoot!

This does happen already mate, I've seen it a few times in PES 2009 in my ML. A shot from outside the box has took a deflection, the keeper has dived initially the way the ball was originally heading, then stuck out his leg/arm in the opposite direction after the deflection to manage to get a touch to it. Thankfully it was my keeper who had 94 for Keeper Skills and 93 for Response. I rememeber one shot still going in, but he definatley managed to save two goals from this scenario. I can remember thinking that was 'Gordon Banks-esque'.

How about the CPU kicks the ball out when one of our player was laying on the ground injured... I remember that it was in the game before, but they just disappear in 2009.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Just read the Eurogamer preview where they talk about the cards and that stuff sounds great.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Nice, now sort out the Bundesliga.

Master League news coming Wed 9am

With previous press releases all stating that the Master League is being overhauled with new 'managerial aspects', many posters have been speculating what exactly this means.

Well, the wait is nearly over. The first few details and key features will be released this Wednesday at 9am GMT on another PES site so make sure you set your alarm clock and log in to find out what new features have made it into the new Master League.

This is straight up, by the way. The new info will detail several key advances to the ML, and will be accompanied with five images of them in action.

See you Wednesday...

Steve
