Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

The front end and the lack of any new content off pitch put a lot of people off, It did for me...

Yeah the menus are fucking atrocious as is the presentation in general. The latest screens show some cleaner, simpler looking tactics menus so hopefully the whole thing looks more professional.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Agreed, it's a better game than I first realised. I was guilty of overlooking the game when it was released due to the abomination that was 2008, but PES2009 is still a solid title. With more fluid passing, better animations and AI the game could have been so much better, hence why I'm optimistic for 2010.

For me the fact which ruins completely the game are the automatic actions like tackles in the box, which have costed me a lot of penalties when I am pressuring with X. Another big issue for me is the stupid fact that body balance gods (Ibrahimovic, for an example) cannot be stopped even with world class defenders like Nesta or Vidic. It is completely non-sense...

Yeah. PES09, though better than 08, is still terrible imo. Hopefully, PES will make a nice comeback. I'll wait and judge for myself.

please play by the rules and read this, we will keep an eye on both threads.

Phew thank God for that

I,m desperate to see this game in action with full animation completed. the wait is killing me, its almost a make or break for this game as far as gameplay videos are concerned. Personally I'll wait for my opinion to be carved in stone after the demo, but we'll have a massive clue when we see it in action at 80% build.

Keep the faith.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Is it true that the weather alters the way the ball travels along the grass? And that kits get dirty?

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I've started playing PES 09 again trying out some of the option files on here with the updated kits/transfers and also with the aim that I can give it a fair judgment and state what I feel needs to be improved for PES 2010, gameplay wise.

I have to say it is still quite enjoyable scoring goals and looks nice in the replays etc (although the lighting is poor, I think they are using 60watt bulbs in the floodlights), but it's the build up that really frustrates me in the game. The ball feels like it's glued to the players foot, they move awkwardly (on rails?), the animations are almost cartoon-like, the passing feels horribly scripted and most of the time passes don't go where I aim them. Shooting is completely random, and crossing feels like I'm hitting a helium balloon in the air.

I know a lot of this has already been pointed out and as many have recognised it is a real dribble fest. There is one major thing that frustrates me above all else. The constant stop/starting. I can't get a decent run going, there's no flow to my play and I find it really difficult to get on top of teams. Whether it's the fact that players are passing behind others or it's the sticky first touch, I'm not sure. Players just stop dead before continuing their runs. This is just not PES for me, even PES 2008 felt more free flowing despite it's many flaws.

That small snippet of video of early PES 2010 code at least seemed to flow better, so fingers crossed we return back to normal.

Well said - I'll tell you what annoys me the most though, PES and FIFA are polar opposites, there's no middle-ground.

PES lets you dribble, FIFA doesn't. PES passes can be random, FIFA passes you can put wherever you want. PES shots seem to be random, FIFA shots you have control over (but too much control you could argue, poor players all seem to shoot with the same success rate). In PES you can hit a screamer of a hard shot, in FIFA everything floats. In PES practically every long-range shot goes in, in FIFA none of them ever go in.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Part of that applies to me in FIFA too, quite often the passes seem to go slightly behind players when you are on the move, even if you have time to play a great pass. I think both games suffer from this to some degree, your player has to bring the ball instead of being able to run on to it.
I guess It's down to the ball being locked to a player and not a truly free entity, which I imagine is one of the hardest things to do...

This leads to what could be great space being eaten up and gives the defender chance to close you down, another AI aid?...

for short passes like that (if using manual through ball) just tapping through ball puts it nicely infront of the player to get onto.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

For some reason those graphics really remind me of FIFA on PC, can't put my finger on why. They look great though.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Where's the arm hair?
It's a low-res texture, if you look at it as a shrunken image you can see it's there, but enlarge it and it's so stretched that you can't really make it out.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Maybe they will only add arm hair in a separate edition, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Arm hair Edition.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

The colour pallet has improved a lot, need to see what it looks like in Wide Cam once the rest is in place.

I dont get this I still think PES5 was the greatest in terms of AI but PES 2009 is not as bad as you mention. The ball is the loosest it's ever been and have to be directed. If you touch the pass button you pass to the closest player and longer presses go further than the short quick ones.
And the ball to me feels the loosest it's ever been.
The biggest shortcomings I noticed are:

- AI
- Animations
- Ease of dribbling
- Automatic passing and tackling.
- Lack of control over shooting direction.

Seriously I dont get it.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I think you have to have spent serious time with the "other" game to really notice its shortcomings Zeemeister, the passes all go to the wrong men for the first ten games or so after getting used to FIFA. You have to learn to press a different direction from what you would in FIFA (i.e. not straight at the man but in a 45/90 degree angle to absolutely make sure it gets there, otherwise it can go to a man 45 degrees away from who you wanted it to go to). But once you get used to it you wouldn't think twice about it.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I have to disagree with the ball being loose in PES 2009. Most passes end up at the feet of another player on your team, whether you meant to pass to them or not. Not in front, not short, at their feet. Also, in my experience this is what tends to slow the flow of the game down. I've tried using manual passing with the right analogue stick, but I find it far too inaccurate and very sensitive. I'd like more misplaced passes, e.g. passes outside of the other player's reach, not quite reaching them or zipping too far ahead if you apply too much power. This is by no means a reflection on the 'other' game, I just feel sometimes that passes in PES 2009 are far too scripted and most of the time end at a player's feet rather than players having to stretch and adjust to how a pass is made.

The dribbling is a fine example of how the ball doesn't feel loose for me. You don't lose possession enough when you have the ball at your feet. You could have dribbled with Ronaldo the length of the pitch and the whole time he has perfect control of the ball, even when being challenged and you are dribbling in and out of tight situations. Even when sprinting with the ball, it looks and feels like it's on the end of a piece of string, e.g. like it's one of those bif-bats.

I personally felt that the ball was more loose in PES5/6.

I agree 100%, in-fact the only time I tend to lose the ball is when the game makes it go 30 degrees or so ahead of the player and straight to the opposition for no apparent reason.

I'm really enjoying my ML at the minute, more than my MM game I have to admit (playing as Tranmere on FIFA is like playing in sludge in comparison), but I find teams like Stoke tend to play more like Spain and both teams keep possession of the ball for a very long time, only losing it when they shoot.
