Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

From PESFAN @ ADMIN

I have more info on this.

It is a closed beta that will not be available to the general public, however I will be getting some access for certain Fan and Rankings users to be involved. I cannot say much more than that at this time as I don't actually have much more information. I won't be the one choosing who those users might be so we will just have to wait and see. So for now I guess its unlikely to affect the majority of you but at least you can be aware that this testing is happening to make sure everything is working as it should be.

Oh one further thing the date in that article is also wrong.:OOOH::CONF:

Isn't the Uncharted 2 multiplayer demo a beta as well? Konami could still release it as a beta on psn if other game developers do so also.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

There is a few ways they can do collision detection.

a) Measure the position of every vertex on every player's mesh and see if it intercepts another player's vertex in it's mesh. .

b) Each player has a biped skeleton underneath it's mesh driving the movement via rotation and position. They could try to measure intersecting bones and if they hit/collide make then "rebound" in the opposite direction...

c) The Artists/Animators could construct a VERY low resolution mesh (i.e. bounding boxes in the rough volume/shape of major parts of the body structure)...

I would say a combination b and c.

That's a very well written post about collisions and how to handle them, I had to program a physics engine (though in 2d) some weeks ago so I went through all this.

And now some lines extending what you wrote in very simple words:

What I thing it happens is that when certain animations trigger because the engine has determined that some event WIL happen (a header, a shot), they switch this detection off until the end of the event. That happens with pes and fifa sometimes, I'm not talking about the clipping but when a "header" animation occurs, while the player is animated touching the ball there are no collisions registered.

That is obviously to ease the programming part and because processor is a very important resource and you have to do everything you can to save the maximum cycles of processing.

For example, no matter how they handle collisions, in a physics engine there are objects that can behave as "bullets". They are so fast that one frame they are behind you and the next frame they are past you. With a bad and simple collision detection, you wouldn't detect "bullets" because no collision is detected.

In standard physics engines objects that can be bullets are treated specifically, the CPU will take position1 and position2 and interpolate n positions between them and see if there has been any collision in the interpolated coordinates. That is a processor costly operation (you're easily scaling the number of calculations per frame and object here) so only the ball will surely receive this treatment in footy games.

Having said that, there's still some tunneling (objects that go through other objects) in videogames, and even in the best games such as Nba 2k10 there's the ocasional pass that goes through a limb.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Sorry, if this is the wrong place to ask, but anyone know the cheapest place to buy this on-line or UK supermarkets/shops?

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

They might do, although quite a few shops got stung by buying shed loads of PES 2008 which was swiftly discounted across the board shortly after everyone realised it was pony.

Bearing that and Pro Evo's relative poorer performance critically and financially for the last two years in mind, supermarkets might be reluctant to buy PES2010 in such vast numbers that they would have had to for FIFA 10 in order to justify the £26 launch price. I wouldn't be surprised to see PES2010 listed at standard price. Hopefully I'm wrong on this one :D

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I read somewhere (thought on here) that Asda were doing for £25, however their on-line site says £32.71.

Thanks Gragra and Drekkard.

But I don't get it. Why do the limbs/ball pass through the body?

I mean if they use the mesh as Gragra mentioned they should not have the bodies passing through each other. Or is this as a result of the animation that is happening that Drekkard mentioned. I saw a video of PES 2010 where the ball passed through a players chest and went to the player behind him. Does that mean that the CPU predetermined that the pass is going to the area behind the player as opposed to the players chest and bounce back onto the pitch?

I think you may be right, but they will still be the cheaper option if you want it on the day...

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

So guys !Few hours until October 8 and no official confirmation about online demo in PESFAN or WENB. That was Fake news ?

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Nope I can confirm that it is happening.

Ok Caniggia.. if Konami will release online mode - CLOSE beta you'll have it. Whether you have the right to make videos whit servers and online gameplay ? Or there will be an embargo again...
