Oh yes, I've seen this way too many times on top player. The animations and movements of the players is completely detached from real-life movement...

It's such a game-breaking bug though. The striker and the defender are in roughly the same horizontal point on the pitch, but after the through ball the striker runs diagonally north-west, whilst the defender just runs parallel to the byline towards the opposition goal. Defenders don't cede their position just for the sake of it.

The animations look oh so very handmade :(, anyone think the new heel trick similiar to Ronaldos chop looks appauling? The player just rotates on the spot and at some point has both his feet in the air...

It's open again and I did excellent stuff. I'm still concerned by the defensive AI that seems to back off on the videos.

@badgerman. I played a few multi player matches on PES2009 and suffered that problem you mentioned about the defending. I made the mistake that you mention from too much R1 and x. Once I started to hold off and jockey I managed to get rid of it.

It would be interesting to see if that works. The issue remaining for me is that on some occasions you need to switch to your defender and have him running from the get go to cover the attacker, so it's not always ideal.

What irks me is that the bug happened from the CPU team, so the single player mode is going to have this exploit that leads to soft goals.

Here's a little trick I pulled off with Sergio Ramos. He has the stats required. I used L2 to keep close control. The L2 button and the right stick pushed in the direction of top right corner then to top left corner. It was lucky as I thought he may do another animation to get him to cut inside.

I know its no-where near the quality of even FIFA 09's version of the same trick. Which is the one I always love to see, it is beautiful. But as far as PES animations go with this sort of movement its certainly a huge improvement, and did its job perfectly. Drew the defender using close control at a slow pace, looking to make him commit. Then a change of pace to catch the approaching player off gaurd. I did like that, not as much as Fifa's of course, but for PES it's a definate improvement and felt really natural. Also the way the ball moves and spins

I like Ramos, he has a decent shot and nice technique for a defender,and is comfortable on the ball, and loves to get forward.

I'd take that, to be honest. I think PES5 & 6 in HD would still hold their own today, that's how good they were for the time.

Seriously, Konami may have to go backwards to move forwards.

The defender hardly makes an effort to get the ball, and carries on running in the same direction after the trick/direction change Ramos makes... Lassana Diarra (I think he's Frances no.6) has better reactions than that...

It's good that there are more tricks now, but whenever you pull them off it just looks silly because most of the time the defenders just run off in the opposite direction or stand completely still and watch you... :(

Sorry Rob but I totally disagree mate. Watch the first video again bud please and cross reference every single thing I've wrote here. Diarra starts to run towards Ramos. Ramos slows his pace with the close control to set himself up for a change of pace to beat Diarra. As Ramos slows the pace, watch Diarra wary of the situation as the ball is in close control by Ramos, slows up his run and doesnt dive in, and gives Ramos a couple of yards, wary of the fact he knows what Ramos is looking to do. Its baiting 101 in football.

This is when Diarra falls for the dummy. As soon as Ramos fakes to go right, watch Diarra instantly makes a run to close Ramos down. The key to this was Ramos's timing of the trick, the change in pace, but more than anything, the fake, stepover that completely fooled the onrushing Diarra. Diarra kept his speed as the fake stepover tricked him into thinking Ramos was going right and closer to the byline, which in real life is an easy tackle, as Ramos has no where to go.

But Ramos, after the fake turns, changed direction very sharply, at pace, and came inside, selling Diarra the perfect dummy, and pulled off easier because of the speed Diarra was approaching. Diarra cant believe he has been 'done' that easily and makes a lame attempt to try and make a tackle, but the moments passed. He got done good and proper.

The theory of the move is spot on, and it was pulled off so well that is why Diarra isnt close.

Thats how I see it Rob, for me the theory, movement, positioning, execution, and end result was spot on technically for me. Its deep, but you cant deny after what I have wrote and watching the 1st clip, that any of what I said isnt correct to whats happening. That is super realistic in every way, very clever, technical stuff in that particular situation. Its those type of moments in PES that make me really 'feel' football.

I start to feel like am a boring guy cuz of my too much talking about nets
But, if Konami did not care about them I would say okay that is them and I should take it or leave it
But they enhanced them at gamescom
And removed the sandbags and all said they finally listened to the fans
Then at the demo they bring the pes 2009 nets again!!
So why
If u cares and looks to the nets and tried to fix them so did any one told you to bring back pes 2009 nets?
Didn't u hear all the negative opinions about pes 2009 nets?
Didn't u read the good comments about the enhancement of goal nets on gamescom
did any one of the 200 extra people navigate to pesfan to see that varied goal nets colored and shaped nets is in the top 5 suggestion list with about 300 vote YES
And in the video of the final code (barca vs Lyon) the bad demo nets are the same!!
I dn understand u guys in Konami

Jimmy I think you're overly romanticizing the trick somewhat, whilst the post you were quoting was reading too much doom into something that could actually have had a number of end results.

Personally when I saw the trick I didn't read too much into it either way. It's very easy to overanalyse individual moments as if they are an unshakeable template of every other possible outcome, when in fact the doom that was being extracted from the clip was more part of PES's inability to properly articulate such subtle thought processes as those given by Jimmy. For a start, Diarra started running for the direction in which he was sold before the trick began. Diarra wasn't drawn in; it was standard sports AI 'stand off a second or so before going in for a tackle'.

Varying dribble pace is something that is criminally underused by players in football games though, so kudos for making a point of that in your assessment.

I don't think Diarra would defend like that - just look at that open space Ramos goes into... As a defender, you shouldn't be going into a tackle like that when the player is unlikely to get very far if you just show them down the line or stand your ground.

Also, theres about 5 yards between the players when the trick is done (look at 0:15), giving him time, as I said I think there should be a better reaction to that than to just continue running in, especially for a player like Diarra.

I've seen similar (and worse) defending many times myself in my games, AI defending is definitely an area they need to work on for next year.

yh it does look that way, dont think they are but now that everything clicks it looks alot better, seem to be alot more little animations that make a big impact, they got my tv in that vid i think, looks exactley like mine but seems to have a different make:CONFUSE:

oh yh rumors going round there will be a few more stadiums in final code, liscences and stuff havent gone through yet, the review code isnt final code by the way, looking very promising for me and pes this year anyway, only one football game for me this year and its pes. I love the demo, seriously its feeling like the best football game i have ever played, i have played way over 200 hundred matches on demo and will play alot more (been very good few days for me but also very sad how a game can take my life away, pes should be a class A drug.

I agree. There seemed a distinct reduction in bay-watch style running in the video, although I am sure someone prolly still could find a bit if they tried.

Sorry for going so OT but it's the first time I have seen anyone from my town on a PES forum. It was a reference to our glorious (not) local team.

But I am curious what others thought of that review code video. The human players are showing every sign of still being drugged by PES 09, but the animation in that vid looks a lot better to me than the demo.

Personally, I'm quite enjoying the demo. So anything better than what I've got atm is surely welcome.

I have a feeling that the nets from Gamescom are in the final game my friend. Maybe there're a few bugs or something in those nets and they simply gonna tweak it for the final version. There is just NO reason to make beautiful nets and then remove them for the PES 2009 ones. But:

This is Konami, nothing is impossible!

I've discovered something which is about the edit mode(in PC's version):

Somebody found that there is a .bin file in dt0c.img which contains some sleeve patches(some are empty at this moment as this is just a demo).

I've replaced the 1st slot(which is empty) with the Europa League's sleeve patches, I found that all 6 teams(including national teams) have the patch on the sleeve!



I've tried another 10 empty slots but nothing changed. I think this is because those 6 teams are now set in the same 'league'.

If the 6 teams are placed in different 'league', I think things would not be the same as this. I think different slots in the .bin file will represent different leagues.

Conclusion:
As the slot 20 in the .bin file =


I guess we may upload images for the sleeve patches (just like kits and faces) in the edit mode!:))

That video from Spooky is depressing, the game is still too fast, the ball travels too fast, damn, it's edgy and sketchy.

I had a terrible bug, but have not got a camera to upload it.

Benzema whet clean through on goal but ran stright into my keeper but some how the ball squirmed loose and he scored...WTF I thought.

On the replay, however, it shows both Benzema and ball moved straight through my keeper. This is totally unacceptable and should never be in a demo.

Other than that its great.

I am not sure whether to go for the XBOX360 version as the PS3 game seems to be getting some bad press.
