Ok, just played my first game - haven't applied any option files yet.
Wanted to get a feel for the raw version first.
Final score: 1–3 (respectable loss).
I had full control between the 63rd and 65th minute - completely dominated that stretch.
CPU got lucky I didn't score more cut backs in that window.
What surprised me most is the CPU variation.
It wasn't predictable at all.
I'll admit, from minute 1 to 63 it had me chasing shadows.
Then from 65 to 90 I was on the ropes again.
Shot count during those phases: CPU: 17, me: 0.
But again - between 63 and 65, it was all me
So far, I'm placing this game alongside my all-time favorites.
- First is still PES6 - the ball control just feels perfect.
- Second is this one (PCSX2 PES 2008). The AI is clearly about 100 times more advanced than PES6. However the ball control reminds me of PES5 and physics seem very basic closer to PSP PES rather than PC versions
- Third would be PES3 - I'd say it has the second best AI out of the older generation.
- Then Winning Eleven 6 Final Evolution - second best ball control after PES6.
- PES5 is in there too - it has its charm, though the auto side-step thing at right angles is still weird and the players move like gorillas.
Still not sure how it'll hold up in the long run.
Maybe it'll surpass PES6 for me.
Too early to say, but for now it's definitely in good company. i'd highly recommend trying the game.
I still need to play more and evaluate the ball control, shots and apply gees option file.
My shots:
Was getting a bit desperate to turn all the pressure I applied between 63 and 65 into a goal
And finally managed to beat the bastard with a cutback
The CPUs shots:
The variation was pretty interesting
