PES2008 PS2 version is the lost game / video thread

I think the 5000 salary bug only happens in European version PES 2008 but I could be wrong

That’s what you have to do. :)

Are you referring to the PS2 version or the PS3 one?

Would be good to know what bugs are packed into the PS2 version. ;)
ps2 mate, it's been a long time so it's difficult to make a bug report now but I remember returning it to the store for that and staying on 2007 on both pc and ps2 until 2009 came out. but now and then I played with people who had it on ps2 and they even learned to make use of the bugs in their gameplay lol.

Hopefully you can remember them and let me know, would be much appreciated. ;)

I know that I find the gameplay way too fast on vanilla version but by globally adjusting the speed stats it slows the pace down a lot and improves the gameplay so much.

The only bug I experience now is the 5000 ML salary bug, other than that it surpasses PES 6 and just about PES 5 in my opinion.

You know, even with the original speed, the game is still good and balanced, and unpredictable. But the ball as speed increase the power of shoot and long passes when you run, tends to have more outcomes than what i see on your vids. That's why i loved that game and even PES5 is fast. WE9 or WE2008 are slower, and JLWE2008 got the perfect speed to me and it plays a bit like your modded OF lol (but not NT... So to me J-league games are more for ML focus and normal PES/WE for every modes)

Unfortunately there's no way to decrease all by 5 or 10% like on PC.
But i still play PES 2008 as i edited it too, just not on ML, dynamism brings sometimes more adrenaline and a fast game (not too fast regarding his old brothers i you retry them) got his charm.

If only, only, they didn't removed the speed bar from ISS Pro Evo since the first on PS2.... But it doesn't remove the core bugs, PES4 will still be the most bugged PES even slower. But that's another story

I mean it's more than 16 years ago. I know seabass worked hard on it but it was gameplay bugs, like collision stuff. I'm sure there are plenty videos on youtube.

Sincerely, no more than the almighty PES5 for playing those two regularly since almost 4 years.
It's been a too long time since you really tried the game and give him a chance.

And i don't see vids on youtube from bugs when i wrote the game's name but action/compilation and believe me i do it often as new patches cames every weeks on X versions.

For example i talked about PES6 360, but i retried the game on Xenia for some matchs and it's even more obvious than in my memory : that game is far better than in PS2, Inertia, animations, AI and graphisms are better. But the editing mode is cut in half.

Now i read some people saying that they remind that game and it was awful. Then one of them (i read only 2 or 3 people saying that) said after than PES4 and PES6 ps2 was the best version.
Two games full of bugs that i just can't replay now so.... Bad taste, having good nostalgia times (when you're bad but score without effort), and old memory isn't your friend.

From my memories Seabass worked really hard on the Next gen version and a bit on PS2 to bring some novelty regarding what he did the best : AI and ball physics.

in that generation we9LE was the best, next I liked 2013 and 2017

Yes (sorry for not naming it correctly, im kinda new here lol) specifically this one -
https://evoweb.uk/threads/winning-eleven-2008-ps2-ntsc-j-patched.94687/

Here is the attached file with the list of players.
Everyone below Madanchi is at 2.

Looks like i have to release the 5000 players to survive lol
Which is a shame because Ivarov has been playing like prime Casillas.

Wow, I've never faced the 5000 salary bug in WE 2008 ! But I play with vanilla game, not the patched ISO.
Is it from the first season ?

@geeeeee , FYI !

Just to be clear there is no code changes between my patched version and the original title. The only hex changes were to the LOD. If there are salary issues these will be present in both vanilla and patched versions (unless someone has gone out of their way to actually fix them of course). Other than that the other changes were to to the boots, emblems, chants, adboards, stadiums and turf. I know there is a bug with the stadiums that were imported but i'm no longer updating that title anymore as i'm focusing on JLWE2008CC.

Then to be honest, I'll be a big incentive to not work on the "Deluxe" edition of my OF and instead adapt my PES 2008 one ...
I'll have to think about this seriously.

The only thing that would be solved in WE 2008 compared to PES 2008 would then be the classic players bug I guess.

I don't have this issue, at least in season 1 :

Right time to play catch up with the Lews All Comers Cup

Here are the next few games that I played with my brother...

I have cut it down to just highlights again.

Enjoy! :))

If only Fantasista wasn't locked in 30fps..
When switching the camera mode to Normal, it's back to 60fps.

They probably set 30fps for Fantasista camera angle because of PS2 hardware limitation (there are more details of stadium & crowd for PS2 to render, so it probably couldn't keep 50/60fps steady).
I know there's lots of camera mods for PC versions of PES, maybe something like that can be done here for Fantasista to mitigate this 30fps limit.

I've been playing a ML with my own fictional Option File, used a formula to level the teams and it's being awesome. All things happening, from my team winning games with ease to being sent into oblivion - all in the first 5 games!

Ok, just played my first game - haven't applied any option files yet.
Wanted to get a feel for the raw version first.

Final score: 1–3 (respectable loss).
I had full control between the 63rd and 65th minute - completely dominated that stretch.
CPU got lucky I didn't score more cut backs in that window.

What surprised me most is the CPU variation.
It wasn't predictable at all.
I'll admit, from minute 1 to 63 it had me chasing shadows.
Then from 65 to 90 I was on the ropes again.
Shot count during those phases: CPU: 17, me: 0.
But again - between 63 and 65, it was all me :)

So far, I'm placing this game alongside my all-time favorites.

  • First is still PES6 - the ball control just feels perfect.
  • Second is this one (PCSX2 PES 2008). The AI is clearly about 100 times more advanced than PES6.
  • Third would be PES3 - I'd say it has the second best AI out of the older generation.
  • Then Winning Eleven 6 Final Evolution - second best ball control after PES6.
  • PES5 is in there too - it has its charm, though the auto side-step thing at right angles is still weird and the players move like gorillas.

Still not sure how it'll hold up in the long run.
Maybe it'll surpass PES6 for me.
Too early to say, but for now it's definitely in good company. i'd highly recommend trying the game.
I still need to play more and evaluate the ball control, shots and apply gees option file.

My shots:

Was getting a bit desperate to turn all the pressure I applied between 63 and 65 into a goal

And finally managed to beat the bastard with a cutback

The CPUs shots:

The variation was pretty interesting
