As for PES 2022..? Time will tell..

Have seen this brought up quite a few times, but in recent years the only publicised departures have been people in marketing and social media roles, either leaving – yes – because Konami working culture is terrible or seemingly for reasons of career progression. I mean really, who has there been? From memory: Asim (think he quite clearly was frustrated with the company and how they treated him), Adam (promotion to a larger, less PES-specific role), that Lennibo guy (could easily be career progression), Lygaard (only ever a behind the scenes marketing guy), who else?

And how do we know these roles aren't being fulfilled/rehired?

In short, I don't know how much to make of that stuff. It doesn't scream an exodus of development talent or anything. I do think Konami probably has a toxic working environment, especially when we think of public-facing roles, and that it has sounded like from prior reports the communication between Japan and Europe isn't great. But I'm not sure any of this directly reflects on the development side.

Is it though? I don't know yet what to conclude on the basis of that beta. But by contrast, a lot of people have been decrying the lack of skilled developers in the Konami PES team for the past 5 or 6 years. Is anything newly bad?

If the quality of the final product is as underwhelming as the beta, another issue could be limited personnel, or development priorities being dictated from the top in ways that don't benefit gameplay (get the hair right, make sure you have this stadium looking great, etc.).

I don't know what can really be inferred about the development team.

Konami Digital Entertainment believes, as is the philosophy of sports, that discrimination of any kind is unacceptable.
Previously we had announced Antoine Griezmann as our Yu-Gi-Oh! contents ambassador, however in light of recent events we have decided to cancel the contract.
With regard to our eFootball PES franchise, we will be requesting FC Barcelona as a club partner to explain the details of this case and its future actions.

In other news, the clickbait goes on...

Im now watching itlay vs spain and it's fact that no one of the 2 only footy company's can't deliver the magic of football at this point... The focus on myclub and fut can't be the key of delivering a superb football game.

Sorry but I'm playing football games since Atari soccer in 1990 and now it's all about capitalism and nothing about that bring back that experience of that magic game...

And yes I am old 😑
I'm even older I suspect! :(

My first football game was Intellivision Soccer. From memory, I bought it on the day that John Lennon was shot.

That probably explains why I'm not overly concerned with graphics. :))

Not sure if its the best advise to give here but here goes.

If you are counting down days for the big reveal then you are setting yourself up for another train wreck. Best to not be emotionally invested to a point where you count days or weeks. If i were you, id just skim past posts to see any recent development and move on with other things in life. Not saying we shouldnt discuss at all but aside from quality shitposts here, theres not much to feed from Konami.

Collecting and setting up Subbuteo >>> playing Subbuteo.

My brother had this, which I commandeered when I was far too old to do so. Great game.

I imagine table top games is a trend that'll come back around one day. At around a Christmas time for a few months. EA will probably get their grubby finger in the pie with some sort of live-action FUT.

I wanted that so much as a kid - but I never played with the Subbuteo (God it was a ballache to set up), so they refused to buy it.

Was it any good? Better than PES 5? PES 2021?

The lack of movement from the non-human controlled players is probably what inspired modern day FUT gameplay. Still a fairly packed midfield.

Edit. Oh great, I'm only the 3rd to think the same. PFFFFFF! :P

Struggle to recall now with it being 2.5 decades ago probably since I played it, but yeah thought it was fun. I dimly remember it being a bit "finicky", and the cloth you had to get right without wrinkles or it messed up the pitch and what you could do. The magnets may not have always worked, but it was a neat thing to be able to do to fire them off like that. I wonder if it still exists somewhere in my parents' loft actually haha.

I would say worse than PES 2021 but better than PES 2020.
