PES 2019 Demo Impressions Thread

I've gone back to PA1 just because it feels more realistic to me. Had 3 great games then the 4th the dreaded AI went through in goal got to the 6 yard box then passed it out wide.. I was screaming for it to shoot FFS

But the dribbling has improved yet again, don't sprint, like IRL, the body physics, angles have been increased yet again. Body balance, drops of the shoulder, and R2 is back with a bang after many years out with the close control/dribbling techniques. I skipped passed 4 CPU players on Pro (Monaco) with Salah, no sprint, just slight movements of the stick and touches of R2. I never use the set skill moves, or very rarely, no need, angles, shifting of body weight then maybe a little speed boost when I've space in front of me before keeping close again and jinking. Love that part.

But really haven't seen or tried much more, R2 stands out better, Zero assist is better again, and the CPU place nice varied football, not last years wing whoring. Or at least not see that yet.

So I am putting it down to a combination of a) 5 minute games and b) my essentially defensive approach (in my head Mourinho’s Inter born again but without Cambiasso).

I am still enjoying the demo. It has made 2018 redundant. It has pushed me online, though, which I find an interesting experience. I tried online a few times but always returned to ML for my true fix. But online wins against Anti-footballers is so damn satisfying. I feel tactically I have the tools to do myself justice against more skilled players.

Did you manage to raise a header? My strikers aren't reacting well on manual crosses, combined with manual shooting. I guess that this will be a big problem in PES 19 playing on FM (I only play FM).

Yo don't get me wrong, I love hard challenging games.
But for some reason it doesn't feel like the low scores are a result of challenging matches and hard AI.
More like the AI is horrible at creating chances and then scoring the goals. And I am horrible too.

PES 5 was hard and challenging. Like the game presented you a good, realistic AI, but the options were there, for both sides.
Not it feels like the game does something.

If you play 5 mins match lenght it's completly normal. Set up much longer match lenght - 15 or 20 minutes. It always used to be like this in PES, especialye in PES 5, 6 times.

Sider and camera tool there are necessary if you play on PC in my opinion.

Had very weird experience with demo yesterday. First game was complete meh, end-to-end mess and I started wondering what was that I saw in this game before? But then, two next games were incredibly good - slow, gritty, lot's of error, I just wanted to play more and more. Thinking why it was so, I found two possible explanations for this:

1) Wet pitch. Both good games were played in the "cloudy with rain" Camp Nou. I'm not sure if in this case wet pitch is automatically activated or not, but it's possible. Anyone also experience such difference depending on the pitch?
2) Tactics. For the meh game I heavily edited Milan tactics to have players retreat to 4-5-1 in defense from their standard 4-3-3. This might have attributed to a rushed feeling with wingers running back immediately after losing possession. This could be a letdown, given that I really like tactical tinkering, however with general improvement in positioning and mentality changes in PES2019, it might be also the case where drastic positional changes in fluid formation will not be needed at all to reliably replicate tactics.

That's disgusting!
The game will always be ping-pongy as long as PA2 and PA3 exists, and if PA1 isn't back to being true PA1.
PES2018 PA0 is ping-pongy too, but just imagine how better PES2019 could be if it's played on PA1(PES15).

I agree that teammates aren't responding well to manual passes.
When you pass the ball to a space in-front of your teammate, there's a high chance that the defender farther away from the ball will be able to get to the ball first.

You kinda have to feed passes into the path/stride of the receiver. Otherwise, other players on the field could be given priority. It's explained further in the post.

Thanks but it's not what I mean. On attacking like that, it's fine.
I'm talking more of just playing possession. Will try to record clips later when I play.

Its crap defending which allowed the goal, the opponent pulled his players out of position. He wont score this against someone who can defend. I don't mind ping pong whatsoever as long as you defend against it people can play however they want online.

Its 2018! People don't want to even think anymore about anything these days, let alone think to play a football game. I may not like it but the this is exactly what masses want!

If it's so easy to defend why is that style of play exactly the approach that participants in the PES League are using to great effect, right up to the world final? (I'm referring to PES 2018 by the way, but it seems it will work just as well in 2019). I would have thought the best PES players in the world would know how to defend. It seems to me that contrary to your view, this is the intended way, and indeed the most effective way to play PES.

Eleven consecutive perfect 1st time passes :BLINK: ok the guy defending is charging in creating space but watch the power bar, it's completely irrelevant to how fast the pass is or how far the ball travelled. Completely ridiculous regardless whether that's PA1 or PA3.

They not only accept it, but they want it this way. People playing Pes at PA0 would call it unplayable, while that is how the passes speed should be as default.
 
Nothing to do with type of pass assistance, that shouldn't be happening even on the most assisted setting. No error/variation with first time passes.

Demo is a step in right direction but still needs improvement:

Cpu goalkeeper doesn't engage the attacker when 1 on 1, makes goals lifeless and unrewarding

Cpu players stats/playstyle is too basic,similar and feels robotic

Cpu still doesn't commit penalties

Shooting still unrewarding but improved

Things I like:

Cpu more aggressive at closing down, which leads to more fouls and harder to play out from the back

Ball physics more random and natural (deflections, blocks ect)

less back heels


Still undecided if its worth a purchase 5 mins games don't help everything feels rushed.

PES League is another level in that every player knows every exploit inside out and this a fest of lobbed through balls and exploits pitted against eachover and who can defend against each ones attack basically. Every PES League player knew how to defend but with the level of exploitation it was difficult to manifest with all the on rails nonsense which lead to like 80% of the goals in that tournament.

Here in that clip I'm sorry the guy has no excuse pressuring leaving wide spaces for the guy to pass round him.

This is what PA3 is all about :( . This is not for me, i do not understand this mass disdain for this as this is 2018, do you really all think the masses want the simulation we do, people don't think these days, its hard enough to get any sort of deep hard hitting conversation with your average person.
 
I just finished a race-to-4 wins against my cousin. A draw with score means we both get 1 win.
This is our third PES2019 session using manual shooting.

In PES2018, we use PA0 and basic shooting. We decided to use manual shooting in PES2019 to minimize lucky goals and so that I can use a different team.
My cousin likes to use FC barcelona and I'm forced to use the same team because we're evenly matched. Player forms makes a difference but there's no way we can play a really balanced match unless we play offline.
I won our match 4-3, but it could easily go the other way.

We scored 11 goals in total but almost half are questionable or cheap.
There's one freekick by my cousin that slides to the hand of the keeper, for a goal. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to save that video because I'm still mad with the scripted goal I posted next.:DD

PES2019 scripting at it's best! Gamepad input ignored! Cheap goal!
I pressed the pass button at around 0:13 to clear the ball towards Coutinho. Notice that Semedo moved in the direction of Coutinho because I aimed my pass there.
Semedo didn't jump, for an easy manual goal by Iniesta that shouldn't have happened.


Luck or Scripting? Cheap goal but acceptable.haha
I'm trying to blast an impossible shot that results into an Own goal:DD


Messi unmarked? Cheap goal
Corner kick fail that goes straight to my forward.
Maybe my cousin used a very "compact" defensive formation here but there's no reason Messi should be left with this amount of space. Alba being buggy, sliding while frozen. My cousin can control Alba and let his teammates press Suarez, but teammate pressure is almost useless with simple dribbling.


Rakitic's questionable pass. Cheap goal
Mina and Busquet magically unable to intercept Rakitic's pass. It results into an unsatisfying goal.


Game Winning Header.
Not sure if my L2 cross is just perfect, or Rakitic and Roberto just don't know how to mark or jump!:DD

Just really surprised by how broken the game is! Damn!
To be honest, I just recorded my game with gamepad viewer, just so I can review my mistakes in game. Just wanted to know if my aiming are correct in shooting/passing.
Didn't expect to find a lot broken things in the game.

yeah. i record everything in the background... 10 min video saves if a match is worth saving or has something interesting in it to look after.
i recorded some flaws and some nice footage! i'm not holmes, so i dont search for broken stuff... but a lot springs right to my eyes... sad that is.
edit: so let me come back to your videos anyway... ;)
the one with messi all alone and that high cross from left wing: imo, the pressure on the wing wasnt applied right. he should have selected another player and cut in from before the pass taker. or: select the defensive player next to messi and follow him. 2 options available he did not use. so i think it depended on human player behaviour.
but i'm with you guys that marking and AI behaviour needs tweaking.

the other one, where you wanted to blast it out of the penalty box, it just happens i guess. i dont have my fingers on the pad in that situation (as it is important), but from watching the video: its kinda unlucky. just my oponion on these 2.

the other videos show perfectly that some stuff is really tweak-worthy... aka rebuild-worthy!
