PES 2019 Demo Impressions Thread

After Konami decides to wreck offline mode I thought I'd give the demo a go online to see if it viable for me.

Played 8 games on PA1. Online sucks. Every game was decided by a through ball. 1-0 usually in last 10 mins of the game. I won 5 games and lost 3. All 1-0 all through balls.

Loads of shots on target, lots of very silly saves. With a tiny bit of lag most balls were uncontrollable and the whole thing is just a mess for me.
 
Has anyone else noticed how active Daniel was before the demo was released and how inactive he has gone after that?.

I wondered if he is banned lately. Reasons for this would be plenty, as all these PA1 borderline manual fairy tales can not be explained with the individuality of personal view anymore, it is just intentional misinformation and agenda in my eyes.

Here's some drills for fun. Trying to feel out how much body contact pressure I could take, before losing balance. Seems a little different from player to player (hopefully stat dependent. Body Control stat? Physical Contact stat? Player weight?). Anyway, it's dangerous to do with Colo Colo against big teams, a lot of times body shielding won't be shielding anything at all (ball nicked from behind without any effort). I hope it's a stat thing.

Also trying to learn where the "entropy point" is for turning defenders against their own momentum/body weight/body balance:



Honestly, I still hate the pressure spam in this game. Stamina could use more punishment. Besides, the XX tackles should plant the defender's weight more, since both feet are planted. The recovery speed from a mistimed tackle is too quick. Shouldn't be stabbing when they are uncertain where the ball is.
precisely, you could tackle and get up in no time making it unrealistic of tracking back to the offensive player you were trying to catch... this has to be fixed

The problem has always been around every year. Like here, in 17, I put the guy on the floor 3 times, and he gets up faster than I can regain my balance lol:


It's like playing against the undead.

In real football, you'd have to be manage your balance and make sure you don't get taken off balance by the attacker.

In PES, defenders can throw mad tackles, and they'll still be in the play.

I think there's hope to fixing this? Just delay the amount of time the defender needs to get up after being committed in an actual defensive action (XX tackle, O tackle). And also punish stamina more. I'm still seeing a whole lot of attacking players moving 30 yards up to press, back 30 yards to press, up 30 yards to press again. All game long. Stamina works to some degree, but here it sure don't look realistic. Running full speed full court like that would burn anyone out quickly. Then again, it's been like that every year, maybe it'll never be fixed.

Ah, just had a look in the news discussion thread...great (but very overdue) job by the mods in detoxing the forum.
 
Played Saturday and it was horrible experience online, game just seemed so so different, i dunno if it is due to server lag or scripting being introduced but all of a sudden passes seemed to have no power despite how long guage held down and bounces kept going one way etc, i went from 20 shots per game to 8 overnight

Remained unbeaton though till yesterday where i lost 2-1 in what felt like a normal game at least

28 unbeaton 25 wins 3 draws not a bad run!

Now will be true test,if i cannot even build a 5 game streak again we know they have introduced momentum to the demo quick match.
 
5th header now. Yet another corner. Averaging 1 every 15 games or so.


I also had a few that were really close from open play, feels like I'm getting closer.

I think positioning, the angle of approach, incoming cross, and then timing....all of them have a bit of influence on it. The first 3, you can only "control" by choosing the right moment + right placement to cross at. Can also adjust positioning with super cancel, if your cross is slow and floaty enough. Timing is just the moment you want him to compress his jump. Power wise, I always use 10% only. More about placement anyway, to redirecting the incoming force of the ball.
 
No driving header but several times my centre back has cleared the ball away with a gravity defying scissor kick, seems weird sometimes what is selected when you press a button

Yes stamina has to be punished,this always going on pressure is not realistic at all
 
yep! seen that too! only defending AI managed to show me diving headers till now (about 3)...
havent managed to create one myself yet. had some headers (floaty's and with some power) and maybe 2 bycicle kick so far.

I scored a header with Countino and also had one with Higuain that was headed into the ground so hard it bounced over the bar.

jippie! :) i had a nice "bouncing of ground" header by Emobolo. from a manual high cross i was manual heading it down to the pitch (1 meter away from the goal line, short corner), keeper goes down to safe it, the balls bounces of the ground and into the goal (half the height of the goal post)! it looked so powerfull and real. i liked it a lot. have it on video (hdr though)!
 
Nice to see a good variety of shots and goals. I have seen some close ranged shots that hit the roof of the net which look great. Shame GKs animations are great or crap no in-between.
 
I've pre ordered the game and I'm playing it every spare minute I have but and it's a big but ..these two issues need to be sorted for me otherwise it will be sold and I'll go to FIFA

1 AI attacking shoot decisions are just insane

2 GK rooted to the line on 1 on 1s
Single player will be dead after a month if this isn't fixed

I play online only so I can't comment on the AI decision making ability, but I see this goalie issue come up alot. When a one on one situation occurs why don't you just press down TRIANGLE so the goalie comes off his line? For me it's better that he stays rooted on the line and I have control of him coming out using the TRIANGLE, because this way I can read the situation and what the attacker will do. If he comes out without my control the attacker can just chip the ball over the goalie.
 
Did Konami fall out with Messi? I cannot understand why they have made him so crap. He's barely any better than Jordan Henderson. Saurez is way better. Also at times i feel as if im playing Fifa 08 with how the players turn like tanks and are unresponsive.

Dont know if im getting demo fatigue but the game is getting worse by the day for me so much so im very close to cancelling me pre order.


I can't create separation using messi, he is slow especially in the open field. I have defenders catching up to me like nothing.

The problem is the CPU Goalie, not yours

i am doing it that way sometimes.
BUT: keepers must be more lifelike on its own! the Triangle button is just an additional option, imo.
and in this state, pressing triangle sometimes (more than not) results in arkward walking or running animations/behaviour thats even worse than letting the AI take care of your keeper! it needs tweaking! A LOT of it!
(i'm an amateur keeper myself... so i know what i'm talking about! even i would get my ass kicked of i would play like this!! i swear! :) )

and as said before: this is only for your keeper! its kinda fun in human 1on1's... but the AI team... nothing here to challenge my attacking striker too much!
 
Had 3 games online there, Im actually embarrassed for Konami. The game plays nothing like the offline game it's like half of it. Everything seems completely watered down from animations, Passing lanes, Shots, Keeper saves. To me it feels like Konami worked on the main offline game and then gave a shoddy dev company the code and said make the online component here's 50 quid and we need it in 2 weeks. It's so bad i've never known the online part of the game to be nothing like the offline part. Kinda feels like Codemasters Club Football actually.

Chuny, i got problems to win as well, PA1, Top Player, lots of draws and loses on my side, while in PES 18 it was too easy to win with exact same setting.
and u know what? i freaking like this change! finally some challenge for offline players.
 
I have low-scoring offline games too. Many. I don’t mind. It seems like a logical and hopefully promising result of 5 minute games.

So I am putting it down to a combination of a) 5 minute games and b) my essentially defensive approach (in my head Mourinho’s Inter born again but without Cambiasso).

I am still enjoying the demo. It has made 2018 redundant. It has pushed me online, though, which I find an interesting experience. I tried online a few times but always returned to ML for my true fix. But online wins against Anti-footballers is so damn satisfying. I feel tactically I have the tools to do myself justice against more skilled players.

Same here...without passing assistance PES 19 is really hard to play, because your teammates aren't responding that well on manual passes.

Did you manage to raise a header? My strikers aren't reacting well on manual crosses, combined with manual shooting. I guess that this will be a big problem in PES 19 playing on FM (I only play FM).
I haven't scored a single header... :(
