PES 2019 Demo Impressions Thread

Not a particularly great goal but it's a last minute winner dodging two red card challenges, Falcao somehow staying on his feet and finding the net! Appreciate the demo is getting mixed reviews right now but definitely still enjoying it myself.

My concerns about the demo-
1. L1 not where it should be in terms of highlighting your player nearest to the cpu player the ball is being passed to, 1I have a player within 3-4 yards of the cpu player the ball is being passed to, he is just a yard inside my half the nearest player 3 yard behind as the ball is player to cpu player. I hit L1 my CB who is 20 yard away highlights not the player 3 yards away.

2 LS control , now PA1 is indeed more loose when passing but when I have 3 players, 1 on the ball 2nd 5 yards inside if not level a half yard off being level and the 3rd my CF 20-25 yards away in the middle of the park with 2 CB near him. I aim my LS inside and back to aim my pass at my team mate 5 yards away and give a slight press of pass to hit the ball to him as I let of the pass button, my CF control icon come on and the pass goes 20-25 yards to my CF and an easy take for the cpu defenders, wasn't fecking aiming my pass at him. aggggggggggggggh

3. 99.99% of passes by the cpu find one of their team mates, even if its a clearance from their box, ball 2 yards from cpu byline cpu defender runs up to it facing his own byline and swivels and hits it 1ST TIME , not stopping the ball and turning and then playing it away, no runs up to it and turns for a 1st time hit. Now if your ever tried to do one of these passes to a team mate, no matter how hard you hit it, your player hits it on the turn and your lucky if the ball goes 5 yards never mind to the player your aiming it for ... Not so with cpu players, it not only goes from 25 yards from byline out of the box but straight to one of his team mates. What is the use of having slacker passing in the game when it does not apply to the cpu players.

4. Refs ? Cpu team can barge into the back of your player, he gives a stumble and cpu player comes away with the ball, 99.99% of the time the cpu doing this never has a foul called against them for it, you do it to 1 of their players 99.99 of the time the ref will call a foul.

5. Defending against cpu , player control icon when pressed does not jump onto your FB (when play coming down the wing ) player nearest the cpu player but onto a CB in the middle of the box, seen myself having to hit L1 3x just to get it onto the FB but usually by then to late.

6. AI , in offline 1 v cpu , leaving aside the 2 keepers, the AI controls 19 of the players on the pitch at anyone time. It controls the 10 outfield players of the cpu team and 9 of the human players team. 10 cpu controlled by the AI are moving, closing down your players even before the ball gets to them ( they see the pass and move to get in front or right behind to get a tackle or block in ) why does it not do the same for your team mates when you are have the "10th" player in you team under control? example, I have my player running at a winger who the ball is on its way to, he hits it 1st time to a team mate 10 yards away, I see he is going to do that and as soon as the ball leaves his boot I am turning my player to go after it. As I am doing it , the cpu player just about to collect that pass has 1 of my AI controlled team mates 3 yards off him, he never moves towards the ball or player the ball is going to ... if that was the other way round that player 3 yards from the player the pass was going to , would have been on the move to close down player or ball and get a tackle in. They talk every year the AI has improved , yes it has BUT ONLY FOR THE TEAM AND PLAYERS OF THE CPU TEAM YOU FACE, not for your AI controlled players.

L1 and most of all AI control of your 9 outfield players bit fixes needed

Are you using Next Player Indicator?

I find it's one of the keys of enjoying PES 2019 defending. I find very challenging to close passing lanes, move the defenders that are out of position and close defensive gaps, try to get offside or win the ball when you are near the opponent. Most players try to defend with the selected player to the opponent that carries the ball. This is boring. If one of your players is marking the player with the ball then use another to do other of the tasks I described before.

I think some of your issues with L1 will disapear.

There is no better anti-piracy method than making a shitty AI/Cpu.
Then the online is the only way to go, so you have to buy the game.
Yes and no.
Whilst it pushes you to online, it doesn't necessarily push you into buying it when they release a 'Lite' version that allows online play for free within a couple of months of release.

I’m sorry but this is not acceptable for 5 years in a row, top player vs Loris who is apparently an offensive goalkeeper, even on ps2 days they were programmed to not do fuck all, horrible and they aren’t getting my money it’s a game breaker

I'm not getting it on release either. Too many offline ai issues rolled over from 2018 imo. Will wait to see if there are any improvements before laying down any cash for it.

Just thought I'd share these highlights from a CPU v CPU match where I witnessed a penalty given and some good goals, saves and build up play. Still a distinct lack of varied shots from the Ai but a definite improvement from last year.
I should point out that I purposely set the difficulty level to only professional for a base test.

If Konami actually manage to refine Demo code rather than watering certain basics of the game down to cater to the casuals then we may be ok come release time. We can but hope.

You would like to think they'll sort it but how could they have not seen this prior to demo..adam is meant to be there all year with the development team, then the playtesters ...its a shambles for me.

I think this is game over for me.

After initially liking the demo, the AI became boring and repetitive to play pretty fast and as usual PA1 is laser guided and player stats close to meaningless except for some animations. Shooting on basic is also pretty bad with shots often going to the opposite side to where I point. Manual, I feel, is more of a grind than ever, now even including a no header bug:TU:

Also tried online and, to me, it's the same super fast, ping pong, constant pressure and tackles mess that it's been for years. Only exeption was the 2018 beta but only Konami know why that went down the drain.

I loved the game from ISS to PES 6, newer owned a 3rd gen console (or gaming PC), and came back to PES 2015 with the PS4, and have struggled to really like the games since 2015.

I think I just have to accept that Konami have a different perspective on how a football game should play, because the way this game plays (from 2015-2019), especially online, just doesn't look or feel like football to me.

And as usual nothing much has changed for the offline player with AI regressing and Master League stagnating with their talk of a "3 year plan" only to remove the Spanish and Italian 2nd divisions.

I might check in to see if anything changed for the full game but I very much doubt it will be changes for the better.

Take care all, not least of each other and your sanity as the saga continues:BYE:

Um bom freekick que eu marquei, o passe do pa1 ainda está muito assistido, algo que tem que mudar tbh [/ QUOTE]
What brightness, contrast and color are you using? Is the image beautiful ... on the TV itself or game configuration?

I'm in south east Asia at the moment.
No ps4 around here, so I had my last demo matches about 4 days ago.
I'll be back in Germany on the 31st of August.
My next matches might be on the full game anyway.
Still reading your impressions :)

Does normal league mode still exist ?my give the Scottish or Russian league ago in that mode wish pes would make it feel like authentic for each country you play in

I have been playing on a manual pass/basic shooting combo, but if I go to full manual shooting I will probably have to step down from Top Player into Professional. Whatever, I can't really be bothered with this short demo anymore, bring on the full game already.

Very much enjoying the demo, especially for the build up play opportunities, and the athmosphere.
I just tried out online (I mainly play offline usually) and it was really good! Tight match with Liverpool against a (better) Barcelona. Missed some great chances on the counter attack and conceided a goal in the last minute (0-1), but it was a satisfying experience nonetheless.
I will buy the full game. I only hope there will be a way to keep the game from updating automatically, because I find it a nuisance to update patch/option file each time Konami updates the game. This is especially so when I play with teams I have created myself. I hate that error box saying my option file (which I put some hours in) is incompatible with the current version of the game...

Bit worried about this manual header being bugged business, surely patchable though. Not having any trouble scoring them on Basic, I guess the complaints are mostly about manual headers.

A bit of play over a few days:

Full manual...I haven't scored headers from open play, only hit the post once. Then again, I always play as Colo Colo, I rarely shower the box with crosses.

Tho I've scored 3 from corners, here's 2 of them:

Super cancel first touch still works. Tho I've noticed with Colo Colo, the reaction is not so sharp (attacking prowess?), it's a little clunky finding the ball after super cancel. My players don't always move how you want them to. I hope that's stat dependent:

I got my 3rd penalty. The average time is now 1 per 15-20 games:

Here's some drills for fun. Trying to feel out how much body contact pressure I could take, before losing balance. Seems a little different from player to player (hopefully stat dependent. Body Control stat? Physical Contact stat? Player weight?). Anyway, it's dangerous to do with Colo Colo against big teams, a lot of times body shielding won't be shielding anything at all (ball nicked from behind without any effort). I hope it's a stat thing.

Also trying to learn where the "entropy point" is for turning defenders against their own momentum/body weight/body balance:

Honestly, I still hate the pressure spam in this game. Stamina could use more punishment. Besides, the XX tackles should plant the defender's weight more, since both feet are planted. The recovery speed from a mistimed tackle is too quick. Shouldn't be stabbing when they are uncertain where the ball is.

I love the demo! full manual, professional difficulty is amazing. AI looks like playing against human. Mbappe is a beast! Can't wait for full release. I am really mad at konami about taking out d2 from spain and italy :CENSOR:

Can the AI score against you though? Im not a manual player but on Pro for me they just cannot score!

yeah, in some occasions they caught my defence out of position. good thing for playing on pro is that you get balanced difficulty. good teams are harder to beat and others were easier so there is actual difference between teams

Dribbling with mo salah is incredible , you can wrong foot defenders and breeze past..hopefully if he picks up an injury in ML or league mode you'll feel the affect of not having him on the field. Feels like you will.

Wow this is first Hitman, we actually totally agree on something. :0)

I've only played two games, yet to try what is new, and see what is there. 5 minute games are poop.

But the dribbling has improved yet again, don't sprint, like IRL, the body physics, angles have been increased yet again. Body balance, drops of the shoulder, and R2 is back with a bang after many years out with the close control/dribbling techniques. I skipped passed 4 CPU players on Pro (Monaco) with Salah, no sprint, just slight movements of the stick and touches of R2. I never use the set skill moves, or very rarely, no need, angles, shifting of body weight then maybe a little speed boost when I've space in front of me before keeping close again and jinking. Love that part.

But really haven't seen or tried much more, R2 stands out better, Zero assist is better again, and the CPU place nice varied football, not last years wing whoring. Or at least not see that yet.

You'll see the wing attack if You play enough it stands out a mile ..not as much on proffessional as top player but I think that's due to being too easy to keep possession on proffessional rather than the AI attacking with variation. Proffessional full manual is probably the right balance but you can depossess defenders way to easily.
For me if they'd have added fouls, A few animations and the visuals and kept 17/18 gameplay it would of been the best football game to date on the pitch but the current AI in a couple of areas (see my previous 2 videos) just ruin a game when they happen

Close range headers are pretty good this year, here's a couple of similar ones from one match tonight;

Having some success using Schalke with hug the touchline + centring targets and putting crosses like these in, the extra width gives you a bit more time on the ball against the pressure spammers, plenty of opportunities for the long switch/diagonal and Embolo/Burgstaller are a physical presence up front. I like how the teams feel different to use.

I'm not seeing any headers with real power from further out though, which is annoying because the animations are there... If you super cancel to get a run up then you can really leap and attack defensive headers, but it seems you can't do the same in the box.
